  • Receiving the Holy Ghost

    Born Again Step 3*

  • Receiving the Holy Ghost is the Third Step to Being Born AgainThen Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

Repentance and baptism cleanses us from sin so that we may be filled with the Holy Ghost. In canning, soap and water are used to clean a jar preparing it to receive the substance to be preserved (fruit, vegetables, etc.)*

  • Why is Receiving the Holy Ghost Important?*

  • Christ in You, the Hope of GloryEven the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Colossians 1:26-27

The mystery hidden for agesChrist in youJesus comes to live inside of us when we receive the Holy Ghost.*

  • Now I Am With You, but I Shall be in YouAnd I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:16-17

Im with you, but I will soon be in you.The Holy Ghost is simply Jesus living in us.*

  • Receiving the Holy Ghost Restores Us to the Original State Lost by Adam & EveBut when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Galatians 4:4-7Sonship was lost by Adam and Eve.When we are born again, we once again become sons of God.*

  • The Holy Ghost is the Resurrection PowerBut if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:11The Holy Ghost is the resurrection power. It will change us from mortal to immortal at the return of Jesus.*

  • How Do We Receive the Holy Ghost?Examples are found in the Acts of the Apostles

    Acts 2Acts 10Acts 19Acts 8

    *

  • Holy Ghost Poured Out for the First TimeAnd when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4

One accord in one placeThey began to speak with tongues*

  • What Meaneth This? And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?...we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.Acts 2:5-8, 11-13Manna: What is it?Holy Ghost: What meaneth this?*

  • This is ThatBut Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: Acts 2:14-18Old Testament prophecy about the Holy GhostJoel 2:28-29*

  • The Gentiles Receive the Holy GhostWhile Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Acts 10:44-46How did the Jews know the Gentiles had received the Holy Ghost?

They heard them speak with tongues*

  • The Gentiles Receive the Holy GhostThen answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 10:47-48

Holy Ghost poured out before baptismThey still needed to be baptizedPeter commanded them to be baptized*

  • Have You Received the Holy Ghost Since You Believed? And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto Johns baptism. Acts 19:1-3They believed, but hadnt received the Holy Ghost. They had been baptized, but not in Jesus name.*

  • Disciples at Ephesus were Re-baptizedThen said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Acts 19:4-6They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When they received the Holy Ghost, they spoke with tongues.*

  • Believed, Baptized, but Hadnt Received the Holy Ghost They had all been baptized. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Acts 8:12-13

  • None of Them Had Received the Holy GhostNow when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Acts 8:14-16How did they know they hadnt received the Holy Ghost?*

  • They Received the Holy Ghost When the Apostles Laid Hands on ThemHow did they know when they did receive it?

Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Ghost was given. What did Simon see? People speaking with tonguesThen laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. Acts 8:17-19*

  • What does the Holy Ghost Do for Us?*

  • The Holy Ghost is Our Source of Power But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 2:4Speaking in tongues is our first lesson in being led by the spirit. They spoke as the Spirit gave utterance. The Holy Ghost comes upon us, then we obey it.Example of learning to be spirit-led: Samuel*

  • The Spirit-led LifeThe purpose of the Holy Ghost is so that we can be spirit-led, not self-led.For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14

  • Examples of Being Led by the Spirit*

  • Spirit said, Separate Unto Me Barnabas and SaulAs they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. Acts 13:2-3Did they hear an audible voice? We must learn to hear the voice of the spirit.*

  • Forbidden to Preach in AsiaNow when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. Acts 16:6-9Raymond ParnellJohn BarleyGlen Bogue*

  • Agabus Prophesies to PaulAnd when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. • Renewal is a Daily ActivityGive us this day our daily breadManna was a type of the Holy Ghost. They gathered the manna daily.Five foolish virginsFor which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16*

  • Early Church Had to be Refilled with the Holy GhostRenewal usually takes place during prayer. It also can take place while praying with others. You can be renewed during worship in church. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:3139

  • The Holy Ghost is the New Testament SabbathWe speak to Him. He speaks to us.This is the rest. The Old Testament Sabbath was a symbol of the rest we would experience after receiving the Holy Ghost. For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. Isaiah 28:11-12

    *

  • When We are Spirit-led, We Cease From Our Own WorksWe keep the Sabbath 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Hebrews 4:10*
