Patriots of the Week

PTA would like to recognize Natalie Hankins as the Patriot of the Week. She has beenbusy organizing the 6th Grade Burgers and Baskets Fundraiser! 409 tickets have beensold, which totals $1,533.75 for 6th grade to put towards graduation and the end of theyear field trip. Way to go, Natalie! Thank you for making Boon Elementary an amazingplace for our kids!

Patriot Dash 2017 - Volunteers Needed!

Boon PTA is extremely excited to kick-offBoon's largest fundraising event, The Patriot Dash.

The dash consists of eight obstacles for kiddos to tackle and we would love to haveYOUR help in the gym. Volunteers will enjoy watching/helping the students in action!

Space in the gym will be tight with the obstacles so, unlike past events, there will not beroom for spectators in the gym.

Volunteers will need to complete an entire shift. Please check in at the gym to get your assignment. We ask that volunteers dress in RED, WHITE AND BLUE or wear "BOON" gear!Please save your spot by 1/23/17Bring lots of enthusiasm too!

Patriot Dash 2017 Timeline

January 19 Fundraising packets will be sent home with students in Thursdayfolders.

January 20 Online donation website goes live.

Parents receive an email containing a link to their student'sfundraising collection page.

January 23-26 Patriot Dash Week - students will receive prizes and entry intodrawings, based on daily fundraising goals.

January 27 PATRIOT DASH DAY! All students will complete a non-competitive,fun obstacle course in the gym during their classroom "specials"

rotation.

On January 10, Andrea Smith, the EducationSpecialist from the City of Allen's Keep AllenBeautiful Department, talked to the students aboutlitter and plastic bottles. Here are some interestingfacts we learned from her presentation:

1. 1,500 plastic water bottlers are used PER SECOND each day in the U.S.2. 80% of water bottles end up in landfills. Please, RECYCLE them, or use a re-

usable drinking container.3. It takes 800-1,000 years to breakdown plastic water bottles in landfills.4. Cigarette butts are still the #1 most littered item in the U.S.

There will be a Gifted and Talented information meeting on Tuesday, January 24 atCurtis Middle School from 6:30-7:30pm in the Curtis cafeteria.

This meeting is designed for parents of interested students in grades K-12 to learnmore about the gifted program and the process for identification and assessment andthe programs that are offered.

Allen ISD has been names as a finalist for the H-E-B 2017 Excellence in EducationLarge School District Award. This prestigious award is the largest monetary program foreducators in the state. H-E-B has awarded more than $8 million in funding tooutstanding Texas public schools. Winners of this award will be announced on May 7,2017.
