Rationale:

Our Bookwork Policy is an easily accessible and very visual guide to the level of excellence we aspire to achieve and is a primary method by which parents and others form opinions about our school.

At Camooweal State School our bookwork policy aims to set out the explicit, acceptable standard for bookwork presentation within each year level while also providing a framework for sequential consistency across our school.

Students’ books hold evidence of the pride taken in their learning. It reflects their commitment to attaining the highest quality of work individually possible and is a measure of respect for themselves as learners and their teachers.

Therefore, as teachers, we must accept the responsibility to explicitly teach excellence in bookwork, demand a consistency of high standards, encourage students to continually strive for their best effort and celebrate their successes.

Student’s RoleTo ensure that…..

Book covers are maintained in a well presented manner. There is no drawing, graffiti, holes, cut outs or scribble inside books or on

covers. All writing equipment and books are ready at the commencement of the

school day. Wooden rulers and normal rubbers are used in the classroom. All pages are used consecutively unless directed by the teacher. Errors are erased or corrected. At all times there is pride in their book work.

Teacher’s RoleTo ensure that…..

At the beginning of each school term explicitly teach correct book work setting out.

Reinforce these practices throughout the school year. Display charts highlighting the standard of bookwork expected. Ensure all students have writing equipment and books ready at the

commencement of the school day eg sharp pencil, ruler, rubber, pen Acknowledge students attempts at correct setting out. Model high standards of presentation in worksheets, digital presentations

and board work (eg use of guidelines on board). Explicitly teach correct posture, pencil grip and formation of letters

appropriate to the year level. Monitor student book work regularly throughout the term and sign and

date each book accordingly. Loose worksheets are compiled in clear plastic envelopes or folders.

To regularly revisit bookwork expectation in lessons, across the year and with new students to our school.

Students label their books with the correct learning area at the beginning of the year.

School SupportThe school will support teachers by…..

Including Handwriting Text Books on book list for students in Years Prep - 6

Producing charts displaying examples of the book work standards for each classroom.

Including the Bookwork Policy in the Induction Package for new staff. Inservicing all new staff in the expectations of the Bookwork Policy.

Pen Licence Policy- Year 6Students in Year 6 will have the opportunity to try out for a pen licence in Term 2. To obtain a pen licence students must demonstrate…..

Correct setting out of bookwork in all books. They are consistently using correct Queensland Modern Cursive. Correct size, shape, slope and formation of letters.

Pen licences will be decided upon by the Year 6 teacher. Not all students will necessarily receive a pen licence and pen licences can be revoked if bookwork deteriorates. Once they receive a pen license

Students will use blue coloured pen only (red pen to underline headings). Liquid paper, correction tape or rub out pens are not permitted. Errors will be crossed out with a single ruled line through the word and

the correction written above. All bookwork in Maths books must still be in pencil.
