Preface by the Local Organizers

Dear Participants,

I am pleased to welcome you all at the project

Network Meeting Silesia 2014 organized by two

neighboring local Antennae- AEGEE Katowice and

AEGEE Gliwice. After a few months of preparation we

have pleasure to present you the effects of our work.

The region of Upper Silesia is famous for its

industrial character, and the omnipresent mine pit

heads constitute its recommendation. Therefore, we

felt obliged to show you one of the mines up close.

That’s how the idea of organizing Opening Ceremony

320 meters underground was conceived and was soon

accomplished by means of kindness from the Historic

Coal Mine Guido and the city authorities of Zabrze.

The mine Guido ceased coal mining a long time ago

and it has been functioning as a museum since 1982.

We want NWM Silesia to be an unforgettable

experience for you as well as the opportunity to make

new friendships, the source of beneficial knowledge

and the possibility to get the real AEGEE Spirit!

Remember that organizers are here for you. The coordinators who have extensive knowledge

about the project will be wearing blue T-shirts. You can address all questions, problems towards them

since they are here to help you. The helpers assisting the project will be wearing green T-shirts.

We will also place the feedback box where you can put all concerns about the project which

from some reasons you do not want to address personally to the organizers. I also encourage you to

use Gossip Box- its summary will be announced at the Closing Ceremony.

host YOU on our Network Meeting Silesia. I am

glad that you are arriving here to spend

developing, unforgettable and surprising four

days with us. Our team has concentrated on each

detail to meet your expectations.

For the first time two Antennas jointly

sacrificed their time to make this event possible

to happen. It was pleasure for me to organize

Network Meeting Silesia in collaboration with

AEGEE KATOWICE.

My dears, lots of attractions have been

drink a beer under the ground? Don’t worry, we

are giving you an opportunity to have a taste of

Dear Friends,

It is a great honour and pleasure to welcome you to

the Spring Network Meeting Silesia 2014! First ever Network

Meeting organized by two locals what shows the strength of

our Network and brilliant cooperation in our beloved

association! Moreover, that coincides with the fifteenth

anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain and a tenth

anniversary of enlargement of European Union by ten countries

– Ciprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania,

Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia - just imagine how AEGEE

has changed so that within 29 years of its existence.

Ever since its inception, our Network has distinguished

itself with this extraordinary capacity to translate European

youth vision and values into tangible realities and rightly so,

AEGEE today needs your active engagement and commitment. Every single Network Meeting is the

beating heart of our association where hundreds of young committed believers gather together to

discuss, debate, deliberate and come to the common ideas. Believers who know that DREAMS WORKS!

May we are all guided by a strong spirit of inspiration, enthusiasm and commitment - true AEGEE

Spirit! Let's share it again in Zabrze!

Make yourself a present feature within this Network Meeting, express your opinions in the

various Open Space panels, voice your ideas during the sessions and finally encourage other

participants to dream in AEGEE Inspire! Only in this way can we continue to construct and develop our

association. Make the four Network Meetings days a real Spring when every leaf becomes a flower –

especially since there are nations in Europe where it is difficult to dream in their current situation.

Therefore, I would like to ask all of you to get carefully and actively contribute to them, because, after

all, it is our AEGEE that we are shaping, it is our Europe that we are shaping.

II. General Rules

Everybody has to register at the organizer desk in order to get badges, lodging, booklets, city

information etc.

Gym is open from 11:00 on Thursday to 16:00 on Sunday.

If you want to participate in Opening and Closing Ceremonies you have to be present in

‘Guido’ Coal Mine Discrict at 14:30 on Friday (Opening Ceremony) and at 12:00 on Sunday

(Closing Ceremony). There will be walking buses leaded by local organizers. It will not be

possible to use elevators and go underground after that time, without local organizers!

It is ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN to smoke in Coal Mine and to drink alcohol outside the

underground pub.

Stickers are allowed only on sticker wall provided by local organizers.

It is ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN to drink alcohol outside the gym – also in corridors and stairs!

If you plan to buy alcohol and drink on the streets, remember that in Poland it is forbidden to

drink alcohol on the street and fine may be up to 500 PLN (120 EUR – usually it is 100 PLN / 24

EUR).

III. Descriptions of the sessions

Sessions I

From Euromaidan with love By Victoria Umanska from AEGEE-Katowice – member of AEGEE since her first year

of education of Political Science in the University of Silesia. She enjoys

conversations in the multicultural environment because of getting the different

perspective on the world's problems. Victoria is co-founder of the biggest Ukrainian

flesh-mob marathon called "STrichka", which has been found by FLEX program's

alumni. She have just came back from Ukraine and it's a huge pleasure for her to

make this session.

Ukrainian Revolution has been discussed in the world for the last

three month. How could peaceful pro-European student's

demonstration became bloody revolution in Kyiv and cause the

international conflict? Why is it important for Ukraine and why has it

become a huge trouble for Russian government? Why does Putin

decide that Crimea in a part of Russian Federation? What is the

reason for two deferent perspectives on the Revolution in Ukraine?

Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, the USA and the UK - why those countries

support Ukrainian Revolution? Everything and a bit more about today's troubles around Ukraine will be

discussed. affects all of society.

Career development with Unilever By Agata Domagala from Unilever – HR Business partner in Unilever Poland Services

Katowice. Economist, UE Krakow graduate. Experience in Human resources including

FMCG, automotive and production area. Internal trainer with more than 6+ experience in

leading project as; talent management, knowledge management, capability building,

Academy for leaders. Lecturer in many conference ; HR Resources Congress XV, WCM World

Class Manufacturing etc. Autor articles in 'Personel & Management', co-autor project for best

internal communication strategy in INTERNALE POLAND 2011;

and by Katarzyna Karnaus from Unilever – graduate of Silesian University, Faculty of

Philology, specialization Russian language and University of Economics in Katowice

Management, International and Domestic Marketing. Working 4 years in Unilever in different

departments. Experienced in production planning, transport & customer service. Currently as

logistic operations supervisor, successfully leading the team of 14 people. Internal trainer;

client’s relation, logistic process and systems, customer service and communication.

This session focuses on identifying career aspirations, strengths and

motivations analysis and action planning. You are encouraged to review the

real opportunities available with Unilever. At the end of the course you will be able to identify your

current strengths and weaknesses, identify your preferences, drivers and motivators, consider tasks

and roles for the future create an action plan to achieve your career objectives and take ownership of

career direction.

Relations Director, living and working full time for AEGEE in Brussels.

Sessions II

Hate speech By Marek Pezda from AEGEE-Katowice.

Internet has become a global space for creativity, communication and

participation. Internet users and young people in particular have

a right to perceive their online interactions as benefitting from the

freedoms of expression and information. However, reality tells us that

the online world is also a space where the values of human rights are

often ignored or violated. Among others, hate speech online has

become a major form of human rights abuse, with very serious

consequences for people, both online and offline. Young people are

directly concerned as victims, targets, active and passive agents. But

hate speech affects all of society.

Lack of (active) members in your local – how to deal with it? By Grzegorz Olifirowicz from AEGEE-Lublin – he has been dealing with soft skills and

self-development for almost 10 years now. He has been in AEGEE from

2009. Grzegorz participated in many events on various levels (LTCs, NWMs, Agoras,

etc.) and also had the opportunity to train people, not only in AEGEE, but also in

other organisations (ESN, Nowy Staw, Teatrikon). Finally, now he works as

a HR Manager in Teatrikon Foundation. His hobbies are leisure time animation,

self-develpoment and music.

Sessions III

Election Observation Project - democracy at close quarters By Joanna Pankowska from AEGEE-Warszawa – her AEGEE story started with founding AEGEE-Warszawa winter swimming

club. It was only fourteen months ago, but since then she already coordinated four

projects on the local level and got involve in three European projects. During this

session she will tell you more about one of them.

Election Observation Project would be a starting point for a discussion

about democracy as such. Do we know what happens after polling

stations are closed? Do we understand how democracy works in

practise? This session would also be serving as a platform to share our

experience with organizing local agoras. Are we democratic at all?

Motivation vs. engagement By Mateusz Górecki from AEGEE-Kraków – founder and president of the 'Młodzi dla

Europy' Foundation. Trainer and project manager (Robert Schuman Foundation,

SMIT 'Creator', Porozumienie Pokoleo, AEGEE), focusing on youth and civic

activation. Blogger - www.gorecki.in. Privately backpacker, explorer,

a self-proclaimed journalist.

What is motivation about? Does 'motivated' mean 'engaged'? What is

the trigger for action? We will start with one simple answer: 'it

depends of individual needs' and based on that discover what could

we do to change 'I will' into' I do' attitude.

Improvisation By Grzegorz Olifirowicz from AEGEE-Lublin.

Improvisation techniques are important not only in funny theatrical

games, but also in real life, when you have to speak publicly while unprepared. On this workshop,

we'll deal with impro-games that will lead us to some specific tricks you can use to boost your

confidence and performance during improvised speeches.

Strategic Plan oraz Action Agenda By Pavel Zbornik from Comité Directeur – Pavel is the current European Institutions and Communications Director, living

and working full time for AEGEE in Brussels.

Sessions IV

10th anniversary of the Great Enlargement By Marta Wnuk from AEGEE-Poznao – Eastern Partnership Project Content

Manager, SubCommie, European Union Studies student. Started her journey with

organizing two editions of “I’m for the East!” Festival in AEGEE-Poznao. Strongly

believes in relevance of AEGEE’s mission of bridging Europe, so she has decided to

be engaged in forming the second phase of the Eastern Partnership Project and

bringing the topic closer to the Network.

10 years ago 10 new countries entered the European Union. Year

2004 is certainly one of the milestones in the history of the EU as well

as in live of every European. How the EU has changed and how our

own lives have changed? Are we in a better place now? Or there are

many reasons to complain? Let’s discuss and exchange the views!

Locals, legends, love - the AEGEE story By Gunnar Erth from AEGEE-Gold – he joined AEGEE 19 years ago and became

active right from the start. After being member for 14 months, Gunnar joined the

CD. In addition he was NetCom member, Members Commision member, founder of

two antennae, founding member of the AEGEE Academy, HRWG and PRWG board

member, chief editor of the Key to Europe for five years - and did many more

things. In 2006, he was awarded the title honorary member of AEGEE-Europe. Later

Gunnar was also Coordinator of AEGEE's alumni association Les Anciens for three

years. Today he still tries to help out in AEGEE wherever he can. In real life, Gunnar

is journalist and work as editor of two business magazines in Stuttgart.

Did you ever wonder, how it all started, why and how this marvellous

association was founded and how it developed? Then you will find out this and much more in my

AEGEE History session. It will give you an overview about the story of AEGEE, the greatest people,

projects and successes in general; but since 25 years ago the Iron Curtain was lifted and AEGEE started

to spread Central and Eastern Europe, a focus will be given on the development of AEGEE in this part of

Europe and how it changed the association for good.

Social media - how to make your messages clicked, read and

shared? By Paulina Inez Wenta from AEGEE-Toruo – she is a member of European Students

Forum AEGEE for 5 years now. She gained her experience not only as an active

member of our organisation but also contributing to others students forums such as

SF Forum Business Centre Club, Toastmasters, Erasmus Students Network and

working many years in the field of corporate PR and marketing. She hold over

100 hours of workshops in fields of personal development, PR and FR strategies and

technological skills. If you like practise more than just listening to a lecture – this is the trainer that you should join!

Nowadays we share everything with eachother by the suport of modern media. But also there’s a huge

amount of information and your message can be quickly forgotten or not visible at all. How to to make

your viral? How to stand out from the crowd? How to interest people in your idea? If you want to know

how to be a social media ninja then come to this workshop.

Discover your strengths and weaknesses! By Dorota DiDi Jaskólska from AEGEE-Toruo – her beginning in AEGEE was in the

spring of 2011. Until this time she was coordinator of NWM, LTC and she gave an

idea for organizing a local project 'Pchli Targ' . Now DiDi is a President of

AEGEE-Toruo, SubCommie responsible for HR and a trainer. She started another

master degree, this time Human Resources and Coaching.

Do you really know your strengths and weaknesses? During this

sesion you will get help to get a better look at who you really are and

how much you could grow. Self-knowledge is a powerful tool that

many people disregard because it's difficult or inconvenient.

Knowledge Transfer & Strategic Planning By Ewelina Rutkowska from AEGEE-Warszawa – former Board Member of two

Students’ Associations (AEGEE-Warszawa included) and experienced coordinator of

numerous projects, currently she acts as a SubCommie. She’s interested in project

management, marketing and business development. She studies in Warsaw School

of Economics and works for an advertising agency. She loves challenges and

she’s strongly focused on self-development..

How important is to transfer knowledge within your organization?

With this question we will start the session dedicated to one of the

most crucial process ensuring continuity in organization’s life cycle.

Many organizations face a problem of “loss of knowledge” when

older members “retire”. It is a main symptom of a structural problem

usually showing that the organization never gave any or did give not

enough thought to organizational learning. It is getting more serious if

we realize that loosing knowledge we actually lose the most valuable asset of the organization. During

the session I will try to show you how important is

a knowledge retention for our organization. We will focus mostly on local level to find ideas and

solutions that may help to build organization’s strengths and plan a good strategy on a solid knowledge

basis. We will share good practices and learn how to prepare the proper knowledge transfer for future

generations, especially when it comes to new Boards.

On the way to integration – hopes and dilemmas of Eastern Partnership countries By Marta Wnuk from AEGEE-Poznao.

Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan - countries with post-soviet past and

European dreams. They remain the most undiscovered part of Europe. All caught in between the

European Union and Russian Federation are faced with decision which direction to choose. The

situation in each country varies, though. What are characteristic features of each of the state? What

potential do they have, what problem they deal with? Come, set out for the travel thought the six

countries and broaden your horizons!

Games as a tool By Dorota DiDi Jaskólska from AEGEE-Toruo

Everybody knows few or more games as an ice-breaking, teambuilding or time-killing games. During

this sesion you will get know that all these games can be useful as a great tool of making good and

strong team. We will not only talk how to play and what games are the best for many situations but

also how to learn from that. It will be 'learning by fun' session.

Erasmus + - How, what, why? By Mateusz Górecki from AEGEE-Kraków.

Europe must equip its citizens with the education, skills, and creativity that they need in knowledge

society. The word is changing fast, and education system need to modernise and adopt to new ways of

teaching and learning and embrace the new opportunities that exist. In the workshop we will explore

how to use the most efficient way for funds from Brussels, we will get through the entire sieve

procedures, share experiences and opportunities.

Body language - your key to succesfull communication By Paulina Inez Wenta from AEGEE-Toruo.

In our personal and professional lifes often we don’t see the importance of body language. When we

speak, present or try to convince other to our idea our body says it all. How to deal with stress when

you speak in public or present an idea? How to be a good leader and show it in your body language?

What gestures can help you with negotiation when you try to get a sponsor for a project? Practise

makes masters so make the first step and come to this workshop!

The adress of the gym: Wolności 406 Street, Zabrze

PKS (Bus Transport Company) station is located at Johann Wolfgang Goethe Street. PKP (Train

Transport Company) station is near there.

How to get to the Network Meeting Silesia’s gym?

If you want to go from the bus station to the gym, you have to go to Wolności Square. Than catch the

tram no. 4 or 5 (about 6 minute ride). Your tram station is situated in Wolności Street. The stop is

called: Zabrze Plac Wolności. Get off the tram at the Zabrze Skansen Luiza stop (it is the third stop).

The gym is on the opposite side of the street and it has got a big title on the building: Hala Sportowa

Pogoo Zabrze.

If you want to go back to the bus station, you can catch the tram no. 4 or 5. The next possibility is to

catch the bus no. 6 at the stop called Zabrze Skansen Luiza, just in front of the gym. The stop at the

bus station is called: Zabrze Goethego (it is the third stop).

The normal single ticket costs 3.20 zł (one city) and it is sold in the kiosks or shops. The ticket which is

sold by the bus/tram driver inside the bus/tram costs 4,80 zł.

How to get from the train station to the bus station in Zabrze?

If you want to go from the train station to the bus station, go out from the train station and turn left.

Than go straight and over the bridge. At the end of the street you will see the bus station. It takes

about 2 minutes.

How to get to the supermarket NETTO from the gym?

If you want to go from the gym to the supermarket NETTO, turn right into Wolności Street. At the

second traffic lights, turn left into Al. Bohaterów Monte Casino. On your left you will see the

supermarket.

Where can I find the taxis in Zabrze?

Plenty of available taxis can be found at the bus station.

KATOWICE-ZABRZE

How to get from the airport to the bus station in Katowice?

There is the special line of the buses from the airport to the center of Katowice called “Linia Lotnisko”.

The timetable of the buses:

If you want to get to the bus station your direction is called “Katowice Dworzec”.

How to get from Katowice to Zabrze?

There are two possibilities:

The cheapest trains are from the company called Koleje Śląskie. The train takes about 40 minutes to

There are three bus lines which you can use to get from Katowice to Zabrze.: 6, 840 and 870.

The best line is 6, because it has got the stop just in front of the gym (Zabrze Skansen Luiza stop).

The bus leaves at Katowice Stawowa stop. Your direction is Zabrze Goethego.

Hot to get from Balice airport in Kraków to the train and bus station?

If you are at the airport and you want to get to the train station in Kraków, you have to take the buses

no. 208, 292 or 902 (a night line). The last stop is the train station.

You can take the bus in the main bus station in Kraków (under the ground).

GLIWICE - ZABRZE

How to get from the bus station in Gliwice to Zabrze?

1.By bus:

Bus station Is located at Plac Piastów Square. There, near the shop called Rossmann you can find the

proper bus stop. From there, you should choose the bus line no. 6, 840 or 870 to get to Zabrze. The

direction is called Katowice Stawowa. If you take the line 840 or 6, you can take off the bus at Zabrze

Skargi stop. Trip from there to the gym takes only 10 minutes.

The normal single ticket costs 3.80 zł (two cities) and it is sold in the kiosks or shops. The ticket which is

sold by the bus driver inside the bus/tram costs 4,80 zł.

2.By train:

The train station is located at Bohaterów Getta Warszawskiego Street. If you want to go to Zabrze, you

should choose the trains from the company called Koleje Śląskie, going to “Katowice” direction. The

trip takes only 10 minutes.

The normal ticket costs 5zł.
