Claude Monet

A French painter, who was born on 14th November 1840 and

died on 5th December 1926. He studied at the Ecole impériale

des Beaux Arts in Paris. He is the founding father of the

impresionissm.

GERMANY

Jörg Immendorff Immendorff (*June 14, 1945 †May 28, 2007) was one of the best

known German painters. He also was a sculptor-, stage designer

and art professor.

EL GRECO

Born in 1541, died in 1614; was a painter, sculptor and architect

of the Spanish Renaissance. "El Greco" was a nickname, a refer-

ence to his national Greek origin, and the artist normally signed

his paintings with his full birth name in Greek letters, Δομήνικος

Θεοτοκόπουλος. The primacy of imagination and intuition over

the subjective character of creation was a fundamental

principle of El Greco's style.

Munkácsy

Mihály

Born 20 February 1844, died 1 May 1900 in Endenich. He was a realist

painter. In 1861 he worked in Wenckheim castle in Gyula In 1865 was

admitted to the Art Academy in Vienna. His art work was influenced by

Rembrandt and Rubens .

Gianni Versace, the fashion guru designer,

was born in Reggio Calabria in 1946 and here he started in his mother sewing workshop. Once he said:

“Reggio is the kingdom where the story of my life began: the tailoring of my mother, the haute couture boutiques”.

Gerardo Sacco, the master-goldsmith,

was born in 1940 in Crotone, a city

founded by the Greeks in the eighth

century. BC. While still a teenager he

found a job at a small goldsmith's

workshop, and so discovered his true

calling: to mold and shape gold and

silver.

Albino Lorenzo, the painter of simplicity and everyday life, was born in Tropea in 1922. It was his father to give him as a young man, the basics of drawing, and, from now on, his innate interest in art. His early works denote already attention to the simple things of life and, before a love for his "places". The daily struggle of ordinary people, the genuineness of the rural world, all the problems that begin to break in his work.

Prāta vētra

Pop/rock band, wchich was formed in the summer of 1989 in

Jelgava by five former classmates – Renārs Kaupers, Jānis Jubalts,

Gundars Mauševics and Kaspars Roga, Māris Mihelsons. In Septem-

ber 1992 Brainstorm released their first single "Jo tu nāc". After this

came their first album, « Vairāk nekā skaļi»(More than Loud) 1993.

Their song "My Star" achieved

3rd place among 24 contest-

Fryderyk

Chopin He was born in 1810 in Żelazowa Wola. Chopin gave his first piano recital

at the age of 8. In the autumn of 1831 Chopin arrived in Paris. On 16 No-

vember 1848, despite a fever, Chopin gave his last concert, playing for

Polish emigrés in the Guildhall in London. On 17 October 1849, Chopin died

of pulmonary tuberculosis in his Parisian flat in the Place Vendôme. He was

buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

Júlio Pomar

Portugeese painter, who was born in the 10th of January 1926 in

Lisbon.He studied painting in both Lisbon and Porto Academy of Fine

Arts, in this last he one he joined the group of other fellow artists

called Independents.

He joined the neo-realist movement, from 1945 to 1957, and he painted

some of the most memorable images of the current. He latter started to

paint in a sort of neo-expressionist style.

Pablo Picasso

Picasso was born in Malaga, 1881. He was a Spanish painter,

sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist. Picasso was the creator of

Cubism together with Georges Braque. The full name of the

painter was Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan

Idil Biret

A Turkish concert pianist, renowned for her interpretations of the Ro-

mantic repertoire. Biret has been a State Artist since 1971, an honorary

title issued to artists by the government of Turkey for their contributions

into the Turish culture.
