Tire designs don’t just fall from trees. They go through a stringent concept phase before our computer aided design group takes over.

Here the tire tread concepts are analyzed and tweaked down the very edges of each knob. While the tread is in design phase the Tire

carcass/construction features and tread compound are chosen for each tire to help ensure optimal tire performance. The two are

then mated on computer and another process of tweaking and analyzing occurs. Along the way graphics designers prepare a visual

presentation on the tire that mates well with your mountain bike wheels. Finally the tire goes through a comprehensive testing phase

before speeding you down the trail.

Tubeless Ready Technology (TLR)

Tubeless Ready technology is the lightest way to go tubeless.

Designed to improve upon existing tubeless systems, Tubeless

Ready tires offer the same secure bead to rim interface as standard

tubeless tires, but are 100 grams lighter per tire. They work in

conjunction with sealant to provide a lightweight seal and flat

protection that significantly improves performance.

The tire pressure flexibility that tubeless provides a user is a

benefit to mountain bikers. But standard tubeless has a weight

penalty that many mountain bikers don’t want to pay. Keith

Bontrager designed the Tubeless Ready system to offer the

same reliable bead/rim interface of standard tubeless tires but he

removed excess weight from the tire casing.

Standard tubeless tires are heavy due to a butyl liner that covers

the whole inner surface on the tire. Tubeless Ready tires remove

the heavy liner of butyl rubber and instead use Bontrager’s Super

Juice to seal air in the tire. This thin, glycol based sealant won’t

clump up or “cure” quickly like other sealants. Its thinner viscosity

also does a better job of coating the inner surface of the tire.

In addition to weight savings, Tubeless Ready technology provides

riders with the benefits of tubeless tires, including improved

traction through lower air pressure and elimination of pinch flats.

Tires are your bike’s only contact point with the trail. Their performance and design can have a large impact on

the quality of your ride. Back in 1996 Keith Bontrager designed his first tire tread in an effort to improve traction

during harder rides. Over the past decade, Bontrager has developed a comprehensive lineup of mountain tires,

today producing a selection of tires suitable for just about any condition you’ll find out on the trail. From the

dry, dusty trails of the southwest to the wet, rocky singletrack of State College, Pennsylvania, Bontrager has

a tire to handle it all.
