AT THE TIPPING POINT

By 2030 two-third of the world’s population will live in areas of high water stress.

Trade-offs between the different water uses are becoming reality.

Limited availability of water resources will in the future increasingly:

Choke growth in emerging economies and inhibit growth in developing economies

Keep people trapped in poverty Further damage ecosystems

Think interlinked!

Being prepared for a resource scarce future and meeting today’s access challenges (water, energy and food) requires solutions that take into account all three sides of the water, food and energy nexus.

BONN2011 CONFERENCE

16-18 November 2011World Conference Center Bonn

5

The Bonn2011 conference will be a multi-stakeholder conference and will bring together leaders from governments, businesses, NGOs, donors, and UN agencies to discuss the water, energy and food security nexus.

The Bonn2011 conveners have built strategic partnerships with IFPRI, World Economic Forum and World Wide Fund for Nature for the preparation of the conference.

The Bonn2011 Conference provides a multi-stakeholder platform tocreate a better understanding of the interlinkages between the sectors and to develop a joint perspective on common challenges and their interrelations and discuss options and solutions as well as enabling framework conditions and incentives for change for those topics which bear the largest positive impact potential.

The nexus thinking is a process, not a conference

Conferences before and after the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference host “satellite discussions” to already plant the seeds and to make progress towards the Bonn Conference

Stockholm World Water Week Statement concentrates on the nexus

The GWP process is the only regionally organised process feeding into the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference

Regions have been asked to provide input in terms of nexus-related priorities, suggested solutions and policy recommendations regarding the water, energy and food security nexus in their regions

Feedback will feed into the conference discussions and ultimately into the Bonn2011 (policy) recommendations
