Transcript of Bones and muscles
Bones
The skeleton is made up of all the bones in the body.
The skeleton: - Holds us upright and gives shape to our body.
- Protects the most delicate parts of our body (heart, brain, etc.).
It is made up of: - Bones, that are hard and rigid.
- Cartilage, that is soft and flexible.
The place where two bones meet is called the joint.
- Some joints don’t allow movement (e.g., those in the skull).
- Other joints do allow movement (e.g., those in the elbow, knee, hip...)

Muscles
The muscular system is made up of all the muscles in the body.
- All the movements that we make are carried out using the muscles.
- The muscles are soft and elastic.
- The muscles are under the skin and over the bones.
- According to the movement they make, muscles are divided into two groups:
- Voluntary muscles: they move when we want them to (e.g. the leg muscles).
-Involuntary muscles: they move without us controlling that movement. (e.g. the heart).
