    What does it do?

    The Bone Marrow produces alldifferent cells that would makeup Red and White blood cells,and Platelets.

    Transplants...

    In order to get this transplant you will need to have cancers assickle cell disease, leukemia, aplastic anemia or thalassemia.

    About 4 Million people donate Bone Marrow per year.

    About 15,000 people receive Bone Marrow transplants per year.

    The success rate of the transplant is 30 percent with the oldmethod.

    you must be between the ages of 18-60 and in general good health.

    you cannot have HIV or AIDS.

    serious asthma is not acceptable.

    serious back problems are not acceptable.

    unmedicated high blood pressure is not acceptable.

    cured local skin cancer and cervical cancer are acceptable, all otherforms are not.

    medication dependent diabetes are not acceptable.

    more then one seizure in the past year is unacceptable.

    prior heart attack, bypass surgery, or other heart disease isunacceptable.

    hepatitis b surface antigen is not acceptable, and hepatitis cantibody is not acceptable.

    chronic lyme disease is unacceptable.

    obesity restrictions.

    heart, lung, kidney, bone, or other organ or tissue transplantrecipients are deferred.

    cannot be pregnant.

    tattoos and piercings may be deferred.

    how long? 4-5 week stay in the hospital.

    for the first 8-9 days you will be preparingyour body for the transplant withchemotherapy or radiotherapy.

    the next 2 weeks are going to be a time forrecovery as the new white blood cells beginto grow and circulate in your body.

    the last one or two weeks are a time forphysical recovery as your body gainsstrength and your immune system continuesto develop.
