In the children’s moment this past Sunday, we read a line from
Psalm 119, “Your word is a lamp to me feet, and a light to my
path.” The Bible is an incredible book. It’s actually more like a
mini-library that records how humanity has come to know and
experience God. The Bible is a wisdom-filled historical document that clues us into
good living, but more than that the Bible gives us a unique glimpse into who God is.
As we read the Bible we begin to discover the God of us all, what God is about, and
what God might want to do with our lives – and that is a very exciting possibility.
The sad reality though is that we often don’t read the Bible (or only the parts we like
best). One of my Bible professors from college asks students at the beginning of the
Introduction class, “why don’t you read the Bible more?” The responses are usually:
because it’s long, boring, difficult to understand, not very relevant to life today.
Have you ever believed any of these about the Bible? If so why not change?!
In this new year, where bold action on a variety of fronts doesn’t seem to be in short
supply, I’m challenging anyone who wants a deeper, more satisfying, life altering,
more fulfilling faith experience to read the Bible in a year. It doesn’t have to be a
2017 project, you can choose any start date that works for you. I recently ordered
from smile.amazon a new Bible, the New Revised Standard Version Daily Bible. I’m
working on reading it throughout 2017.
Here’s a few links to reading plans to use with your current Bible:

20Reading%20Plans

As you read God’s Word, you’ll probably come across some gems you forgot about, and
hopefully something new you never knew was there! Pick a plan. Use whatever transla-
tion is a good fit for you. Share with people what you’re reading. Let’s know God
through the reading of the Word.

I would like to say a big thank you to my church family for the generous staff gift I received at Christmas. I look forward to purchasing some new music with it! I so appreciate the opportunity to serve this wonderful congregation. Thanks again. Merri Cory Dear BCC Family, THANK YOU so much for the Christmas gift from this past December. I used some of the money to buy a new splash cymbal for the drums in the Sanctuary! Your gen-erosity and caring spirit make this church a beautiful place. Love and Gratitude, Pastor Jason Dear Church family, Thank you for the staff gift given at Christmas. I appreciate it very much. It is a joy to serve you and be part of Bondurant Christian Church. In Christian love, Tamara Schopf

Week of Compassion Offering
February 19-26, 2017
A special offering for Week of Compassion on
February 19 and 26 will be here before we know
it. This is your reminder to make plans to
support this important Missions focus of our
church. Your dollars not only help those in need on the other side of the world, but also
people/families in the United States and perhaps even in our state/county/community …
wherever there is a great need. This offering is steeped in more than just decades of
tradition. It is rooted in responding to Christ’s call to welcome the stranger. The Week
of Compassion offering connects our church’s resources to others to provide help
beyond just emergency food, water and shelter. Our offering will help people in need
begin a new life free from violence, persecution, shifting climate -- a new life with hope
for the future.
Food Pantry Sunday – February 19th!
The Missions team would like to once again request your support for Food Pantry
Sunday. The last time donations were checked to take to the Food Pantry, the cart was
bare. Even though donations won’t be delivered until the end of the month, donations
(monetary or grocery items) can be given any time. Their most needed item for Febru-
ary is diapers. However, it you prefer to give something else, please feel free to do so.
If you need a refresher of preferred items, please take a copy of the list clipped to the
grocery cart as you enter the front door of the church. Thank you for your
generosity and continued support.
Exciting news! … In December, DMARC became the recipient of the $30,000 Ignite
Community Innovation Challenge grant. The money will be used to fund Food Pantry
2.0 – incorporating new technologies, expanding access to fresh fruit and vegetables,
and incentivizing healthy choices by implementing an EBT-style vending system in one
of DMARC’s food pantries.
Birthday Gifts – Hope Ministries Children (ages 0-12)
Thank you to everyone who continues to shop and drop off presents for the children of
Hope Ministries. They are joyously received by Hope Ministries. We are receiving lots of
items for younger children, and greatly appreciate that, but would like to ask that you
remember the older children, too. In December, we learned there are two boys in the
9-10 years of age range. The Missions team would like to continue this worthwhile
project in 2017. With your help, we will be successful.
Cindy Tendall will be contacting Hope Ministries soon to learn of any other needs we are
unaware of, any changes we need to make with the birthday gifts, and to also visit with
them about Easter baskets for the children. Stay tuned for further updates!

THE WALLS ARE GOING UP AT CAMP
WITH YOUR HELP!
At the August 2016 All Congregational
Gathering meeting it was announced that
Neill Mckee from First Christian Church,
Keokuk IA, and First Christian Church,
Minneapolis MN were excited to give a gift so
we can begin the next phase of building in
the Our Path Together plan.
This building will be located in the Chi Rho
area and will serve as housing for directors
and nurse/office, meeting rooms during the
camp season and a tornado shelter. It will
also be used during the other nine months of
the year as a retreat building for other
groups.
We are hoping that you might help us again
in the building of another building. On
June 3rd, we plan to blitz build all of the walls
… We need as many people/groups to come
that day or the whole weekend.
Please email Linda Wolf for more details
and to let us know your are coming @
The preschoolers will begin the month of February by showing
their love on our annual “Dad’s Day Out” February 2. They are
excited to get to show their Dad or special friend all around the
preschool. They will be working on a fun craft and playing fun
carnival games. The preschoolers always get excited about
exchanging Valentines to show how much they care about each
other. During the month of February, we will also talk about
healthy teeth and our 5 senses.
It’s a busy time of the year at preschool with our annual registration starting. If you or
any one you know is interested in learning more about Bondurant Christian Preschool
for the 2017-2018 school year, please give us a call at 967-2328. Thank you!
