Snowmobiles for Projectile Hazard

The following product safety recall was conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should
stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a
recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Ski-Doo Model Year 2005 and 2006 Mach Z and Model Year 2006 MX Z Renegade 1000
Snowmobiles
Units: About 3,600
Manufacturer: Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP), of Quebec, Canada
Hazard: Cracks can appear in the starter ring gears, causing ring gear fragmentation at high speeds. The debriscan act as a projectile causing injury or death to riders or bystanders.
Incidents/Injuries: BRP has received six reported incidents of fragmentation. There have been three reported
injuries, including a laceration to a rider's foot that required stitches and one rider who suffered a fractured toe.
Description: The recall involves all models and packages of the Model Years 2005 and 2006 Mach Z and all
models and packages of the Model Year 2006 MX Z Renegade 1000 Ski-Doo Snowmobiles. The Mach Z model
was available in black and the MXZ model was available in black or yellow. Model name is located on the side
panels.
Sold by: Ski-Doo dealers nationwide from September 2004 through March 2006 for between $9,300 and $11,600.
Manufactured In: Canada
What to Do: Consumers with recalled snowmobiles are being sent direct notice from BRP. Consumers should
stop using these vehicles immediately and contact a local Ski-Doo dealer to schedule an appointment for a free
repair.
