in Switzerland. The factory offers a broad portfolio of
products and a reputation built on more than 60 years
of history.
The site has benefited from significant investment in
infrastructure including a 200 m test track, for both static
and dynamic testing. Backed by other sites within
Bombardier Transportation – in Switzerland and beyond
- our production capacity is around 6 trains per month,
making this the ideal location for the manufacture of the
new Swiss TWINDEXX Express Train for national train
operator, SBB.
With capabilities ranging from the manufacture of new
fleets of trains to more bespoke tram orders or vehicle
modernization programmes, our highly skilled workforce
of production and maintenance teams is accustomed to
flexibly supporting both national, regional and local train
operators.

Bombardier’s approach to apprentice training As a company, Bombardier attaches great importance
to training for apprentices, particularly in Switzerland,
where combined training in the workplace and college is
commonly practiced. At its site in Villeneuve, Bombardier
trains between 8 and 10 apprentices in the professions of
logistics, industrial varnishing, and mechanical production.
These apprentices are fully supervised and supported
by experienced and dedicated mentors.
regional supply base Wherever possible, Bombardier seeks to support its
considerable subcontract and materials requirements
with regionally based suppliers and aims to cultivate
companies in the Villeneuve area. With this policy,
Bombardier maintains a strong network of collaboration
at a regional level and minimizes pollution caused by
transport between different manufacturing sites.

NINA regional train
Designed to meet the needs of both regular travellers
and tourist passengers, the Lötschberger - BOMBARDIER*
NINA* - regional express trains, operated by BLS, were
manufactured in Villeneuve. With panoramic windows,
full air-conditioning and spacious interiors, these
comfortable trains guarantee that the rail journey is as
pleasing as the scenery.
improving accessAs part of SBB’s DOMINO programme to upgrade Swiss
regional trains to meet modern standards, the INOVA low
floor intermediate cars, manufactured at Bombardier’s
Villeneuve site, have paved the way for more versatile
travel with improved access and multi-functional areas to
suit contemporary passengers’ needs.
The INOVA low-floor vehicles were introduced to
complement the suburban trains operated by SBB on
their regional routes across the Swiss Romande,
Glaronnais and Swiss Plateau areas.

meeting modern urban mobility requirementsEase of access is important to today’s city dwellers,
where interconnected rail and bus routes mean that
passengers need to change quickly and easily from one
form of transport to another.
Double-deck commuter car NDW
Bombardier has addressed these needs with a range of
low-floor solutions for both commuter trains and trams.
For SBB’s regional express network surrounding Zurich,
Bombardier‘s Villeneuve site has provided 121 new double
deck vehicles with low-floor access to facilitate boarding
for passengers with restricted mobility.
Specializing in metre gauge vehicles The Villeneuve site has earned an excellent reputation in
the design and production of rail vehicles tailored to the
Swiss metre gauge market. Either as multiple units,
coaches, or driving trailers, Bombardier has the skills to
develop and produce rolling stock designed for Swiss
railway companies offering regional services and tourist
transport in the mountains.
These vehicles are specially developed to meet the many
different technical requirements relating to infrastructure
and operations.
low floor tramsDesigned by Swiss designer Pininfarina, with a view to
maximizing passenger comfort, Cobra trams have been
in operation in Zurich for several years for public
transport operators VBZ and VBG. The trams combine
low-floor vehicles with seven large double doors that
enable passengers to board and disembark quickly.
Spacious air-conditioned interiors provide comfort for
passengers during their journeys. The highly popular

The new TWINDEXX train is set to change the way we
think about double-deck rail travel, effortlessly
combining capacity with comfort and high speed.
Rail services are integral to the Swiss transport network
and passengers have high expectations for a relaxed
journey. Frequent services and a fast journey time are
also vital to today’s rail traveller. The new TWINDEXX
Express trains combine the best of all worlds – providing
high speed and high capacity with latest facilities for
information, entertainment and versatility.
The innovative TWINDEXX train incorporates the
advanced and market-leading FLEXX Tronic WAKO bogie
technology, enabling vehicles to run at speed, even on
existing curved track. This means substantially reduced
journey times, without the need for major infrastructural
investment.
The high speed TWINDEXX train can travel at up to
230 km/h. With a “married pair” of two cars forming
each traction unit, configuration is flexibly available in
scalable formations from four to eight cars with a
maximum 16 car formation.
Large areas for luggage, as well as bicycle and ski
storage areas, a dedicated restaurant and multi-purpose
and family areas suit the wide range of passenger needs.
Trains are equipped with comfortable air-conditioned
interiors, have provision for WiFi access and offer
electronic passenger information and emergency alert
facilities.
