About the Author
Eva Bolt was born on April 28, 1984, in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands. She completed pre-university education at the St Vitus College in Bussum. In 2002, she started studying Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree cum laude, she took a side-step from Medicine to follow a Master’s program in International Public Health at the VU University Amsterdam. For her Master’s thesis Eva went to Vietnam to work on the project ‘The occurrence and overcoming of gaps in knowledge on mother-to-child-transmission of HIV in women at high risk´. In 2007 she graduated at the VU University and returned to the University of Amsterdam to obtain her Master’s degree in Medi-cine. Eva gained medical experience through internships in the Netherlands as well as abroad, in Cameroon and India and graduated in 2010.
From 2010 to 2011, she worked as physician at the department of Neurology and the department of Internal Medicine at Tergooiziekenhuizen, Hilversum. From 2010 to 2015 she volunteered as physician at Kruispost, Amsterdam, a medical centre providing physical and psychosocial care to people with limited access to health care. In 2012 Eva illustrated the children’s book Kapitein Bolbuik.
In 2011 Eva commenced her PhD-project at the end-of-life research group, part of the EMGO+ Institute for Health and Care Research at the VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam. During her PhD-project, she became involved in two projects: the second evaluation of the termination of life on request and assisted suicide (review procedures) act, and the KNMG Steering Committee for Appropriate End-of-Life Care. Starting 2012, she is combining her PhD studies with General Practice Vocational Training at the AMC Amsterdam as ‘aiotho’. Since 2014, she is active within the LOVAH, the National Organization for aspiring GPs, as chairperson of the workgroup science (formerly the AIOTHO-bestuur).
Eva is currently working in a family practice in Hilversum, and hopes to graduate as a general practitioner in 2018. She lives in Weesp with her partner Tomek van de Watering and their son Roef. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, running, painting and illustrating (see also: www.evabolt.nl).
