Objectives:
Describe how tissues, organs, and organ systems are related
List 11 organ systems
Identify how organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis

Homeostasis:Definition: the maintenance of a stable
internal environment in the body

Cells, Tissues, and Organs:
Maintaining homeostasis is not a simple task
Internal environment is always changing
Cells need nutrients and oxygen to survive, wastes need to be removed
If homeostasis is disrupted, cells may die
![Page 5: Body Organization Ch 22.1 7th](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062307/55164a7c497959ab378b4764/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Cells form Tissues:Each cell in your body has a role in maintaining
homeostasis
Your cells are organized into groups
Tissue: a group of similar cells working together
Your body has 4 main kinds of tissues:EpithelialNervousMuscleConnective
![Page 6: Body Organization Ch 22.1 7th](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062307/55164a7c497959ab378b4764/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
4 Types of Tissue:Epithelial Tissue: covers and protects
underlying tissue; ex: skinNervous Tissue: sends electrical signals
through the body; found in brain, nerves, sense organs
Muscle Tissue: made of cells that contract and relax to produce movement
Connective Tissue: joints, supports, protects, insulates, nourishes, and cushions organs

Tissues form Organs:
Two or more tissues working together form organs
Organ: a collection of tissues that carry out a specialized function of the body
Ex: Stomach, heart, lungs, kidneys

Organs Form Systems:
Organs that work together make up an organ system
Your body has 11 major organ systems
How many can you list??

Highlighting systems:
Cardiovascular system:Heart, blood vessels,
blood
Respiratory system:lungs
Both systems work together

Quick Quiz:
True or False?Epithelial tissue sends electrical signals
throughout the body
Blood is a type of connective tissue
Homeostasis is the maintenance of a stable internal environment
