Here’s to the New Year! A time to look back and reflect on 2015 and also look at ways to improve our health, finances and relationships going into a new chapter in our lives. Maybe you’ve committed to hitting the gym more, or going to the drive-thru less. Maybe you’ve decided to take on a more positive outlook or to get a better grip on your bills. The possibilities are endless. A recent study showed that only 8% of people actually stick with their resolutions! What’s your commitment to make sure you’re one of the select few who power through? Check out the inside for a special edition feature: Tips to Redefine your Finances in 2016.

This year we will be hosting our 2nd
annual Carter BloodCare Drive! Last
year was a success as we gathered
nearly 20 units, but we are hoping to
more than double that number this
year. This time of year especially there is
a huge need—remember one donation
could save up to THREE lives! Start
preparing now to boost your immune
system and iron levels. There will be
snacks provided on site and free

TIPS TO REDEFINE YOUR FINANCES
3
1. Lock down your budget – No need for any fancy Excel
spreadsheets or overpriced apps. Just grab a sheet of paper and
start jotting down your monthly income and expenses. Divide
your expenses into fixed (those which stay the same no matter
what, such as rent) and variable (those which can change month
to month, such as utilities). This process takes only a few minutes
and gives you a great idea of what you’re working with each
upcoming month.
2. Use the old envelope trick – A tried and true method with
proven results. If you have a favorite variable expense that
you’re trying to cut back on (i.e. eating out or shopping) in order
to save money, set aside a pre-determined amount each month
for it. Place the cash in a designated envelope to use for this
expense only. Just make sure it lasts more than the first week, so
you’re not tapping into other funds!
3. Save, invest, and save some more – Speaks for itself. Open a
savings account and set aside a small percentage of your
paycheck to go towards your larger purchases. For example, just
$50 each check comes out to $13,000 after 10 years. A pretty
nice sum to use for a car or new home. Also consider investment
options such as a 401K or traditional IRA to save towards your
retirement. That way you’ll have a nice nest egg to really make
the most of your golden years.
