Who was this man?
• Nehemiah was a Hebrew in Persia a cupbearer
• He was a man of prayer (Neh 1:4 ) (Neh 1:6)
Nehemiah 2:18 And I told them of the hand of my God which
was good upon me, as also of the king's words that he had
spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they
strengthened their hands for the good work.
Rebuilding the wall
The walls of our city need rebuilding. Walls represent that which keeps the enemy out of the city. A defenseless wall, a broken down wall represents an area of our life where we are vulnerable to the enemy. This is a place where we have yet to fortify; it is a place of
sin, a place of immaturity, a place we have not overcome and a place of self-will. For example, if you can become depressed, your walls are not fortified yet, if you can lose your joy then the walls
surrounding your inner man are too weak.
Rebuilding the wall
THE CHALLENGE
ARE YOU READY TO BE PART OF THIS JOURNEY?
THE CHALLENGE
Jesus went through numerous cycles of offering comfort and
challenge to those He discipled. He would happily spend time with
them explaining what was happening (Mark 4:10), clearing up
misunderstandings (John 16:17-19), giving them room to think and
reflect on the cost of discipleship (John 6:67-71), helping them absorb
and work out the implications (Luke 18:28-30), dealing with their
anxieties (Matthew 6:25-34) and considering their leadership (Luke
9:49-50). Yet at the same time He was not fight-shy (John 14:9) and
would confront bad attitudes (Mark 9:33-37), shallow responses
(Matthew 16:8) and sinful behavior (Matthew 16:23) with great vigor
and unmistakable candor and clarity. These timeless principles of
encouragement and accountability are the basic mix of discipleship
Kingdom accountability is about experiencing the grace of God in
areas of weakness, fatigue and failure, as you humbly walk
before Him and His servants.
Many people struggle with the notion of
accountability. Too often it is seen in
purely negative contexts – such as the
tax man chasing you down for the very
last minor receipt, or the parking
attendant fining you for being one
minute late back to your vehicle. Quite
understandably, those are extremely
frustrating situations that feel like law
triumphing over grace (and common
sense!)
Accountability is the
very opposite of
legalism: it is a means
of grace

in out
THE CHALLENGE
Accountability means:
Living a transparent life
Being open and ruthlessly honest
Doing what you say you are going to do
Ensuring your actions line up with your words
Having friends and supporters – brothers and sisters in arms - who love
you, support you and are prepared to fight for you
Allowing these friends to speak into your life boldly and frankly
Not becoming defensive the moment they do so!
THE CHALLENGE
What is God saying to you at this time?
What are you going to do about it?
