From the Chair of the Scholarship Committee…. Congratulations to the 2015 graduating seniors in our Phelps County high schools and surrounding communities. We also commend the college students currently working to pursue their degrees at many different colleges, universities, and technical schools. We are fortunate to have many talented and hard-working students and we are proud of them. Since the inception of the PCCF, we have awarded more than $2 Million in scholarships to area students. Currently there are 66 scholarship funds for which students can apply, with two funds being added during the past year. In 2015 we were able to award 101 scholarships totaling $237,365. Forty graduating students from eight high schools in five counties were awarded 77 scholarships totaling $202,120. Twenty college students received 24 scholarships totaling $35,245. Sixteen scholarships were awarded in Agriculture with between one and four being awarded in numerous other fields, including art, business, education, engineering, medical fields, and technology. A majority of the students plan to study in Nebraska. We are grateful to the generous donors to the PCCF who provide the funding for these scholarships. Scholarship funding is a great avenue for charitable giving and provides donors the benefit of giving a young student a good start in establishing a career! We welcome inquiries into our scholarship funding as we have many options for giving. Gary W. Kaup Memorial Scholarship

Phelps County Community Foundation COLLEGE Scholarship Recipients 2015

The Phelps County Community Foundation manages a large pool of scholarship funds for the benefit of students in and around Phelps County. When a new fund is created at the Foundation the donor has the joy of deciding who that perfect candidate might be. For this reason, scholarship awards become a very meaningful gift for a donor and their family. This year the Foundation offered two new scholarship awards:

The family of Gary W. Kaup established a memorial scholarship at the Phelps County Community Foundation. Throughout his battle with cancer, Gary and his family experienced a new appreciation of healthcare through the love and compassion shown to them by medical personnel. This inspired Gary’s

family to create a scholarship in his memory. To qualify for this $1,000 scholarship award, a student must have completed at least two years of post-secondary education and be enrolled (full time) in a medical field of study. Qualified students must

have a 3.0 or better GPA and must submit an essay telling why the medical field is important to them. The Holdrege High School Class of 1966 created a scholarship fund as a ‘grow fund’ and solicited class members to contribute over a period of time.

This scholarship is now available to graduating seniors of HHS who have maintained a 3.0 GPA. Qualified applicants will be required to submit an essay sharing the applicant’s personal characteristics, attributes and the applicant’s 5-10 year goals following the completion of their degree.

Three additional new scholarship funds are scheduled to be available for the 2016-2017 scholarship season. We will release more information about these awards in the near future. The Foundation is honored to manage $3.7 Million in scholarship funds for the benefit of helping students attain their goals of receiving a higher education.

PCCF Scholarship Offerings Continue to Grow!
