Happy July Everyone!
What a harried and crazy year 2016 has turned out to be! Here we sit withit half over, trying to decide if we can go on vacation this summer or not.The first week of July, the Silver Center will be closed so our staff can spendsome time with their families…July 4th - 8th, the daytime events at the SilverCenter will be closed, but the evening of the 8th, we will still have our Fridaynight dance!
I certainly hope you were able to come out and help us support the SilverCenter at the Taste of Seguin. It was an absolutely wonderful evening full offabulous food, music, and friendship. Kay Lynn Hawkins was this year’schairperson for the event, and she did a spectacular job along with a veryhigh energy and helpful committee. Once again, this year she surpassed herprevious year’s goal! The money brought into the Silver Center to supportevents you enjoyed the most, is still coming in. On that note, did you bid onanything during the silent auction? You might want to call the Silver Centerand see if you won…so you can pick up your item!
Birthday Bingo for June was our biggest birthday event to date! I’m so gladmore and more of you are choosing to attend. Remember, it doesn’t have tobe your birthday for you to celebrate another member’s birthday with us!Come out and enjoy Birthday Bingo with Guadalupe Valley Nursing Centerand Heart-to-Heart Hospice…our Birthday Bingo sponsors!
With July, comes children out of school and fireworks, so please be carefulif you drive through neighborhoods where children or pets might be out atplay. We hope to see you at one of our dances or luncheons or other eventsin July! We would very much like to hear from you to know what it is youwould like to see added to what we already provide at the Silver Center. Ifyou have something you think our community needs to have available, thatyou think the Silver Center can provide, please take a moment to fill out acomment card and drop it off with our receptionist so we can take it beforethe board to see if that is something we might be able to provide for you!Remember, we are mainly run by volunteers and any time you have available,we would love to have you come down to help out!
Stay safe, stay cool, and stay in touch with YOUR Silver Center! God Blessyou all.

SILVER STAROur Silver Star for July is the amazing Myrtle Huebinger! She works at the front deskon Tuesday mornings and has done this for 15 years. However, Myrtle actually startedworking at the Silver Center when it first opened in 1993. She is one of those volunteerswho goes where there is a need and has been known to work the Friday night dances. An interesting tidbit about her, is that she was the 27th person to sign up as a memberof the Silver Center, and she still has her membership card!
Myrtle was born at home in Guadalupe County near Geronimo. She has lived in Seguinall her life except for 2 years right after she married. They moved to San Antonio, butmoved back to Geronimo, her hometown, as quickly as she could. She married Ernoon September 12, 1945, and they were married 65 wonderful years before Erno passedaway. The two of them had 4 children. Her family has grown to 6 grandchildren and
5 great-grandchildren.
Ms. Huebinger’s main hobby is her garden. She grows flowers and if you have ever been by her house, her gardens arebeautiful! Lots of color, variety, and sweet smells. Although she no longer travels, she has been to Europe and Alaskatwice, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal.
Myrtle has spent her whole life volunteering. In fact, she considers volunteering as one of her hobbies. She has been amember of the Ladies Aid at Emanuel Lutheran Church for 50 years and the Clear Springs Extension Education Associationsince 1949. When the Silver Center first opened, she organized several rummage sales and helped put a cookbook togetherfor the center. She helped out at the Red Barn between Seguin and Navarro for several years and at the Guadalupe CountyFair Baked Goods Event for 30 years. Myrtle was even Director of the County Fair for a while.
Now, she has slowed down a bit, which is well-deserved, and enjoys playing Bunco and 42 (a domino game) at the SilverCenter. Myrtle believes the Silver Center is a wonderful place for Seguin. That was why she joined when it began and shebelieves strongly in it today. If you come by the center on Tuesday, please stop by and say hello to Myrtle Huebinger. Sheis friendly and helpful and can probably answer any question you may have about the Silver Center or even Seguin.
Thank you to the vendors of the Silver Center who sponsored Taste of Seguin. There were 17 vendors andtheir support was phenomenal! Thank you also to our amazing judges. It was a great success!
