Save the Date! HEARTS ON FIRE

January, 2019 Dear Friend of Jesuit Retreat Center,

We begin this year with deep gratitude for the countless experiences

of God’s grace that we have been blessed to see in the lives of over

7,000 people served in the past year - even moments that reflect true

miracles in bringing healing and hope to people’s lives.

We are also grateful to share the wonderful news that we are at the edge of surpassing our $8

million goal for our Capital Campaign: To Journey, To Build, To Profess. Our theme is taken from the

first homily of Pope Francis after his election, and inscribed at the entrance to the new addition.

These words speak to the enduring mission of Jesuit Retreat Center in being companions to those

we serve on our 121-year journey, and building a ministry to faithfully profess God’s love and

mercy to every life we touch.

We have completed major renovations in the past year to accompany the beautiful new addition

and have more improvements planned for our building and grounds, in addition to growing an

endowment to sustain our mission for the next 100 years. We are improving our communications

and use of technology, and work will be completed by this spring to transform our website to be

more engaging and user-friendly.

We are so very thankful to all of you who have supported JRC in your prayers, your presence at our

retreats and programs, and your generosity to our Capital Campaign and Annual Fund. All that we

do is made possible through your care and support.

May the peace of Christ be ever with you in this New Year,

Ignatian Currents Ignatian Pilgrim: Pilgrimage as an

Essential Ignatian Activity

Presented by Fr. Brendan McManus, SJ

Through the collaborative efforts of Jesuit Retreat Center and Rivers Edge we are pleased to welcome Brendan McManus, SJ to the Cleveland area April 26 - May 5, 2019. Ignatius Loyola was the ultimate pilgrim and criss-crossed Europe in working out his spirituality and connection with God. In terms of

understanding Ignatian spirituality, it is more than an intellectual exercise. It is a profound experience of the God who lives and moves with and through us. Brendan draws on his pilgrimage experience of walking the Camino Ignaciano as a novice and the Camino Santiago several times more recently. He reflects on these pilgrimages to explain how the key Ignatian concepts of discernment, reflection and inner freedom are based on experiences that Ignatius lived. We are invited into these experiences in our own journeys.

Fr. Brendan McManus grew up on a farm in N. Ireland and worked in the UK's computer industry for several years before joining the Jesuits in Dublin. He served as a school chaplain in the Jesuit school in Galway for some years before walking the Camino de Santiago in 2011 and writing a book, Redemption Road, in memory of his brother. He currently works as a Spiritual Director and retreat director in Belfast, N. Ireland.

Registration will open on February 1st. See website for full details about pricing options, including overnight and commuter rates. Visit www.jesuitretreatcenter.org
