President
What a special luncheon and fashion
show we enjoyed on April 9! The Granite
Bay Golf Club was such an elegant venue,
and the table settings were a lovely touch
of Spring. Thanks go to Debra Simon and
her committee, especially the luncheon
planning and reservations by Patti
Bumpus and Deb Payne. The floral ar-
rangements by Carol Geaney, Brigitte
Apel, and Angie Zimmerman added a
touch of elegance, as did the beautiful programs created by
Debra Simon and Lori Winters. The highlight of the event was
the professionally choreographed fashion show by Mirror Mirror,
featuring our very own lovely models: Debi Allen, Brigitte Apel,
Diana Crosby, Carole Holt, Carol Geaney, Erika Kleczek, Nancy
Vaughn and Lori Winters. Of course, they could never have
looked so “together” without the help of hair stylists and
makeup artists from Maribou Salon on Sutter or the dressers Lee
Guertin, Carolyn La France, Roma Turoff, Deb Payne and Doris
Stinnett. And to top off a totally successful program we added
nearly $1000 to our raffle proceeds for our adopted charity, Lilli-
put. We will be pleased to present Lilliput a very large check at
the last luncheon of the year on May 14! You will not want to
miss that presentation, nor their response. Plan to attend and
show your appreciation for the excellent work of the outgoing
Board. Each one has been dedicated and very effective. It has
been a true pleasure working with them to welcome new mem-
bers and to offer fun activities and events to all our members.
On May 14 we will install the new Board for 2014-2015. Con-
sidering the mix of talent on that Board, I know it will be an out-
standing year under the capable leadership of President-Elect
Debra Simon!
I challenge each member to help make that a reality. — Cathy

I have six names on a list for a new Bunco
group but need six more to be able to get this
group up and running. Bunco is a really fun game
that takes absolutely no expertise except for be-
ing able to throw the dice! Let me know if you
would be interested.
Some of the activities will remain active over
the summer months. Check the newsletters to see
which ones are active so you don’t miss out on
the fun. Also, don't forget to renew your mem-
bership so you can continue to enjoy all the great
small activity groups that are offered by our Club.
Be sure to renew by June 30.

What a fabulous day of fun, feasting, fashions
and friendship we had at the April Luncheon and
Fashion Show. Granite Bay Golf Club provided the
perfect venue for our event with its lovely patios,
golf course views, amazing room, perfect service
and delicious food! The fashions were so "now"
and so “gorgeous” that many of us have headed
to Mirror Mirror to try them on ourselves. They
did an outstanding job and were delightful to
work with. The flowers were not only positively
exquisite but so fragrant and how wonderful that
a guest at each table got to take one home!!
Hope to see you at the Side Bar at Bistro 33
for the May luncheon on the 14th, if not, have a
wonderful summer!!!!!

What: : Lilliput Kinship Support Services Program
EDH Newcomers is a social CLUB WITH A
HEART and that will be especially evident at this
month's luncheon when we donate more than
$3,500 to our chosen charity, the Lilliput Kinship
Support Services program of El Dorado Hills.
Kinship families are formed when kin, grand-
parents or extended family members bring into
their home abused, neglected and at-risk children
who can no longer be safely or effectively raised
by their birth parents.
What is unique about kinship care is that when
grandchildren and other young loved ones come
into a family member’s home, neither the caregiv-
ers nor children are prepared for this transition. It
is a decision that is made out of crisis, usually due
to birth parent drug addiction, incarceration or
mental health issues. Unlike traditional foster
families, most kinship families, particularly those
formed informally receive little, if any, support or
training.
Lilliput offers kinship families a variety of sup-
portive services including support groups, assis-
tance in applying for guardianship or MediCal, in-
formation about critical mental health, medical,
dental and financial assistance and more.
Lilliput’s mission is to ensure that all children
are given the chance to be part of a safe and nur-
turing family. Lilliput currently completes more
adoptions for foster children than any private
agency in the state and has finalized adoptions for
6,500 California foster children.
Thank you for all your raffle ticket purchases
that helped make this donation possible and for
being part of A CLUB WITH A HEART.

ing our Newcomers model! It is always nice to
have time to chat while enjoying divine appetizers
with drinks followed by a delicious meal and
scrumptious dessert. Glad we had the special
treat of giving away those beautiful fresh flower
arrangements. The flower arrangements were the
perfect touch that made the room complete!

that we researched, and what to watch for with
scams. Cathy Thornton summarized the results of
a survey we took at the first meeting which will
guide our future program content. The group has
voiced strong interest in learning more about in-
vestment options, the role of long term care insur-
