Numeracy Goal Secondary: ByJune2018,therewillbeanincreasefrom52%to60%inappliedmathematicsand83%to85%inacademicmathematicsbystudentsapplyingtheiralgebraicreasoningtosolveandjustifyproblems.
Strategies and ActionsElementaryALL:SchoolswillcreateanumeracygoalinresponsetoanurgentstudentlearningneedbasedonavarietyofdatasuchasEQAO,ReportCard,2016-17observations,conversationsandproductsinoneofthebig4(spatialreasoning,proportionalreasoning,algebraicreasoning,fractions) using a an adult learning structure such as a collaborative inquiryofplan,act,assessandreflect.EngagingtheMathematician,LearningMaththroughProblemSolvingandComputationalFluencyarethe3frames.
SOME: 16selectedschoolsand350educatorsfromavarietyofschoolswillparticipateinapilotfollowingacomprehensiveScopeandSequencefromtheNiagaraDistrictSchoolBoard.
FEW:2intensiveand17increasedschoolswillparticipateintheabovestrategies. The principals of these schools will also participate in a PrincipalLearningNetworktosupportaleadershipinquiryinleadingtheRenewedMathStrategy.
Secondary ALL:SchoolswillcreateanumeracygoalinresponsetoanurgentstudentlearningneedbasedonavarietyofdatasuchasEQAO,ReportCard,2016-17observations,conversationsandproducts.
SOME:Inallsecondaryschools,AEACteamswillfocusonhowcollaboration,inquiry,co-teachingordescriptivefeedbackcanacceleratethelearningofappliedstudentsinmathematics.
FEW:3extendedAEACschoolsand6FIPPschoolswillreceiveadditionalprofessional learning support concerning engaging applied and college pathwaystudentsinconnectingmathskills.

Professional LearningElementaryPrincipals:LeadingtheRenewedMathStrategyisafocusoflearningatthemonthlySuperintendencymeeting.ThisisledbythePrincipalofProgramandprincipalrepresentativesfromeachsuperintendency.Thelearningfollowsthecontentofthescopeandsequence.ItisalsoafocusatthePrincipals’meetingsthatoccurfivetimesinaschoolyear.
Educators:Over300educatorsfromgrades1to8havevolunteeredtoparticipateinthescopeandsequencelearning.Theyarecommittedtoattending7learningsessionsledbymathprogramconsultantsandcoaches.Theyarealsocollaborativelyworkingwithconsultantsandcoachesinbetweenthesessions.
