General Safety Notes3
english
All functions designated as safety functions may be used for the protection of human life. These functions in 2-channel use meet the requirements of EM/IEC 61508 SIL 3 as well as ISO 13849-1 4PL e, Category 4. For single-channel use of the inputs the requirements of EN/IEC 61508 SIL 2 and ISO 13849-1 3 PL d, Category 3 are met. All functions which are not indicated as safety functions do not meet these requirements and may not be used for the protection of human life.
Safe operation always requires the use of a safety controller with PROFIsafe protocol. The user must take into account the entire safety chain of the safety function in order to determine the achieved SIL and PL.
All requirements described in this manual must be met. Ignoring instructions can result in dan-gerous conditions.
The device is designed for use in automation. The requirements for operating conditions as well as environmental and EMC conditions must be observed.
The scope of the certification must be observed.
Warranty and liability claims against the manufacturer are rendered void by:
– Unauthorized tampering
– Improper use
– Use, installation or handling contrary to the instructions provided in this User's Guide.
Safe inputs
Safe inputs are safely read and safely transmitted based on PROFIsafe.
If an error is detected, the safety substitution value 0 and a diagnostics message are sent to the PLC.
If communication is faulty, it will be completely stopped.
Safe outputs
The safe outputs are switched off securely upon corresponding external, functional actuation and remain securely switched off as long as there is actuation. For this kind of switch-off, only the positive +24 V potential (“F-DO”) of the respective output is switched off.
If an error is detected, both outputs are switched off securely. For this kind of switch-off, the positive +24 V potentials (“F-DO”) as well as the ground potentials (“0 V actuator supply”) are switched off for both outputs.
Safe state
In the safe state the PROFIsafe communication is stopped and the outputs are turned off.
NoteAssuring safe condition of the overall system is the responsibility of the user.
Installation and startup are to be performed only by skilled professionals. The specifications contained in this manual as well as the prevailing standards and directives must be followed. Skilled professionals are people who are familiar with the work such as installation and the operation of the product and have the necessary qualifications for these tasks.

Properties of the I/O Module4
english
To use the BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 at least three components are always required:
– A PROFIsafe compatible safety PLC
– A compatible Balluff IO-Link PROFInet master (see appended document for a list of compati-ble devices)
– The BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 module
The safety PLC is a master in the PROFIsafe system. The Balluff IO-Link master does not itself have any safety functionality. This module is used to connect the BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 via IO-Link. Whether this requires special ports can be found in the manual for the Balluff IO-Link master. If not otherwise specified, all ports may be used. The Balluff IO-Link master does not have to be incorporated into the safety considerations. The device simply passes the received PROFIsafe telegram without changes via IO-Link to the safety PLC or safe I/O module.
On the BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 safety-relevant sensors and actuators can be connected. The sensor values are sent to the safety PLC and the actuators can be controlled by it.

Entering the F-address
The PROFIsafe destination address under which the device is identified in the network can be freely selected from 1 to 9999. Each address may be used only once in the PROFIsafe network.
For correct connection of a device the PROFIsafe destination address on the device itself must agree with the PROFIsafe destination address set in the programming program. The address must be verified on the device at startup.
If a device is replaced, only the F_Dest_Add needs to be set correspondingly on the new device using the display. The current configuration data are passed from the controller to the (new) safety I/O module whenever communication starts up if the destination address agrees.
The F-address for the respective device must be entered in the parameter “F_Dest_Address“.
The address can be changed as soon as the device is powered up. If the device is already connected to the controller via PROFIsafe, operation of the displays and thereby changing of the destination address are only possible if the parameter "HMI block" is disabled.
NoteWhen the device is in the safe condition (all LEDs red and PROFIsafe communication is no longer present) the destination address cannot be changed.

The test pulses are for monitoring the sensor line to and from "simple" sensors/switches without their own short-circuit detection. The test pulses between the individual safety circuits within a port and to all other safety circuits of the other ports are different, i.e. if all test pulses are enabled on the individual ports, the safety I/O module 14 generates different test pulses (input ports: 2x4=8; output ports: 2x1=2; multi-function ports: 2x2=4). For devices with their own clocking (e.g. OSSD) you must disable clocking.

1) Discrepancy error:Check whether within a configurable time span, the so-called discrepancy time, the two adjacent input signals have chan-ged their state. If not, there is a discrepancy error.2) Discrepancy time (relevant for the 1oo2 signal analysis):An equivalent or antivalent switch or two single-channel sensors/switches have a time-delayed response behavior due to mechanical tolerances. This discrepancy is evaluated by the safety I/O module as an error and results in shutting down of the system. To counteract this given "discrepancy“ behavior and ensure availability of the system, the selected discrepancy time is used to tolerate a time delay between the two signals. Note when using 2-channel electronic devices (e.g. with an OSSD output stage) the technical specifications of the manuf-acturer must be observed in order to set the discrepancy time accordingly.3) Input delay:Filters noise pulses on the sensor line or contact bounce to ensure high machine availability. The set time has a direct effect on the response time of the safety I/O module and should therefore be set as short as possible if fast response times are required.

Example for potential-free contacts
This mode allows up to SIL 3 and PL e, Category 4 to be achieved. It requires that voltage supply with pulses be used (Pin 1 and Pin 2). This allows wiring errors to be detected.
Example OSSD
This mode allows up to SIL 3 and PL e, Category 4 to be achieved. The test pulses on Pin 1 must be turned off in order to ensure flawless function of the powered device.
If errors need to be detected in the wiring, this must be ensured by the connected device.
NoteIn 1oo1 setting a maximum SIL 2 and PL d, Category 3 can be achieved. To preclude short-circuits on the sensor line when using the inputs in 1oo1 configura-tion, take measures such as described in EN ISO 13849-2 Table D.4.
Connection and parameter setting is the same as for the pure input ports, except that the chan-ged pin numbers must be observed.
Standard in-/outputs
The standard output can be used for example to drive an interlocking solenoid. A single port can control the latch and evaluate safely.
The standard input can be used for example for feedback contacts.
NoteIn 1oo1 setting a maximum SIL 2 and PL d, Category 3 can be achieved. To preclude short-circuits on the sensor line when using the inputs in 1oo1 configura-tion, take measures such as described in EN ISO 13849-2 Table D.4.

The safe outputs can be used with a variety of actuators and electronic devices. Note that this is an OSSD output which receives test pulses. Complete disabling of the zero pulses is not provi-ded for, since this would mean loss of the safety function.
In error-free operation only the +24V on Pin 4 switches safely. If an internal or external error is detected, such as a short-circuit, both +24V (Pin 4) as well as ground (Pin 3) are safely turned off and the device goes into a safe state.

4 ms
Time span within which the sent test pulses are expected back.
1) Read-back time: When connecting inductive or capacitive loads there can be a delay of the test pulses resulting in improper shut-offs. To prevent this the read-back parameter can be set. In general, the greater the capacitance or inductance, the greater this time needs to be set for. The maximum pulse duration of a test pulse is calculated from the set read-back time plus 4 ms.

Actuator example
Depending on the required safety level a variety of devices can be used as actuators. The OSSD output meets SIL 3 and PL e, Category 4 requirements. When there is an error on the OSSD output both the 24 V and 0 V is turned off and the actuator loses its connection with ground.
The achievable safety level depends on the entire rest of the safety chain and on the actuator.
Electronic processing example
Other electronic devices which use OSSD input signals can also be connected, such as fre-quency converters. This configuration allows devices without a PROFIsafe interface to also be controlled through PROFIsafe.
NoteWhen using the inputs in 1oo1 configuration, short circuits on the output lines to other lines must be precluded. This can be achieved for example by using measures descri-bed in EN ISO 13849-2 Table D.4.
NoteThe 0 V actuator supply for the safety outputs must not be connected to an external ground potential (e.g. the supply voltage).

Module Integration for PLC Planning7
english
When planning PROFINET devices, a device is depicted as a modular system with a header module and several data modules. The screenshots shown here are from the projecting software Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal) or SIMTATIC-Manager from Siemens AG.
Connecting the BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 must always be done through a compatible IO-Link master (see Appendix). Refer to the manual for instructions om how to set the IO-Link master.
The device data required for project planning is saved in GSDML files (Generic Station Descrip-tion Markup Language). The GSDML files are available in two languages as an Internet download (www.balluff.com). The data modules of an IO-Link block are depicted in the project planning software according to the slot.
The GSDML file makes the possible data modules available (input or output of different data ranges). For configuration of the IO-Link blocks, the corresponding data modules are assigned to a slot.
It is important to first delete the entry "Standard I/O". Only then can a new module be added. The safety module BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 can be connected to any desired IO-Link port on the compatible IO-Link master.

“F_SIL”: Here the SIL of the device is selected. A maximum of SIL 3 can be chosen.
“F_Source_Add”: Here the PROFIsafe address of the PROFIsafe master is entered.
“F_Dest_Add”: This is the PROFIsafe address under which the device is identified in the network. This can be freely selected in a range of 1 to 9999. Each address may be used only once in the PROFIsafe network. If a device is replaced, only the F_Dest_Add needs to be set correspondin-gly on the new device using the display. The configuration data are passed from the controller again whenever communication starts up if the destination address agrees.
“F_WD_Time”: This parameter is used to set the watchdog time of the device. If this time expires without receipt of a valid PROFIsafe telegram, the device goes into the safe state.
“F_iPar_CRC”: To ensure correct transmission of the module parameters for a safety device, the parameterizing tool (PTool) is used in the project planning environment to generate a checksum (CRC) which is entered in the field F_iPar_CRC and compared and verified in the device when it is connected. The checksum remains unchanged after the device is replaced. Only the F_Dest_Add needs to be set on the new device.
In this dialog the module-specific parameters are set.

The safe software parameterizing tool (PTOOL) is used to check the module parameters in the engineering tool for safe control (e.g. SIMATIC Manager or TIA Portal) for correctness. This is a safety-related validation measure. Without this check the device will not operate.
PTOOL performs a check of the parameters for consistency and correctness. Logical errors in the parameterization are thus detected. These must be correct before startup.
PTOOL must be installed before first use.
To start the installation, run the file Setup.exe. Supported operating systems are Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, either 32- or 64-bit systems.

More input screens follow which should be confirmed using "Next". The installation path and program group for the start menu must be selected.
There are no configuration options for the installation. PTOOL is always fully installed. Therefore you can always confirm the corresponding input screen with "Next".
Before installation please read the license terms in full and confirm this by checking the box next to "I accept the license agreement". Clicking on "Next" starts the installation routine.
After installation the PTOOL can be started in the TIA Portal or SIMATIC Manager.
NoteWhen installing PTOOL on a virtual machine (VM), use the correct drivers for the graphics card. Other drives can cause the PTOOL not to start.
The Balluff parameterization tool PTOOL is always started from the TIA portal or SIMATIC Mana-ger. It automatically gets the needed data through the so-called TCI interface.

The screenshot (Figure 17) shows a valid parameterization without errors. This output area thus shows only an entry with the information that the parameters are plausible.
NoteCheck the parameters shown in the PTool when validating the system.
Check agreement of all entered parameters and compare them with your requirements. If the parameters are set as desired, click on the "Confirm parameters" button. You are then prompted whether a CRC should be generated for these parameters. Confirming with "Ok“ means a CRC is generated. Successful generation of the CRC is displayed in the output area.
Figure 17: Detail "Output area".
"Copy CRC" copies the CRC and enters it after closing the PTOOL in SIMATIC Manager or TIA Portal (Parameter "F_iPar_CRC“). This concludes the configuration.
NoteTo verify the correct parameterization of the device, compare the file iPar_CRC gene-rated by the PTool with the iPar_CRC displayed in the device.

In 1oo1 as input mode the values of the inputs (for each port) are send in separate bits.
In 1oo2 as input mode the bit sent contains the combined state of both inputs of a port. All error detection mechanisms are carried out in the device itself.
In 1oo2 as antivalent mode the value of the combined process data corresponds to the state of the safe "Input channel 1".
The input data consist of four additional bytes which are determined by the PROFIsafe protocol. These data are not to be used by the user.

The device autonomously detects both internal and external errors. This makes troubleshooting and restarting easier.
After the error is eliminated this must always be confirmed. After internal errors the device must be restarted.
Depending on the severity, external errors can be either confirmed by the higher level controller or require a restart of the device.
All errors are stored in the error memory of the device (see below). In addition, all errors are sent to the higher level controller.
Standard error messages are by default sent over PROFIsafe.

TIA diagnostics messages
Error messages can be viewed in the TIA portal if there is an online connection to the device. The exact error messages can be viewed under menu item Online & Diagnostics in the sub-menu Channel Diagnostics. In this example there is a short-circuit on both ports 0 and 6 between the signals named below and + 24 V.
Figure 22: Channel diagnostics in Online & Diagnostics menu
Diagnostics messages on the display
In addition, when errors are present error codes are shown on the display, some of which are permanently stored in the internal error log. These saved error messages are intended by the manufacturer to be used for localizing errors and do not contain any information relevant to device operation.
The exact error messages will help the manufacturer in localizing the error.

Maintenance
No special maintenance is necessary.
After the life expectancy has elapsed, the device may no longer be used in safety-relevant appli-cations, even if it is still functional. For safety-relevant applications the device must be replaced.
Access to the device
If access to the device represents security risks (e.g. by tampering), access must be prevented. These measures must be taken by the user.
IT security
The parameters are password protected and therefore cannot be changed without authorization. If additional measures are necessary (e.g. firewalls etc.), these must be taken by the user.

Glossary14
english
Term Definition
Output port (safe) For connecting actuators
CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
Procedure for determining a check value for data in order to detect errors in transmission or saving.
DCavg (Diagnostic Coverage average)
Measure of the effectiveness of the diagnostics, which can be determined as the ratio of the failure rate of the detected hazardous fault and the fault rate of the total dangerous failures.
Input port (safe) For connecting (safe) switches/sensors
Function ground (FE) The function ground enables noise-free operation of electrical equipment and devices.
GSDML (Generic Station Description Markup Language)
GSDML is a language for describing PROFINET IO field devices. Use of this language in turn creates a GSD (General Station Description). It is therefore correct to refer to a "GSD file" even if it is in XML notation.
HFT (Hardware fault tolerance)
Ability to perform a required function when errors or failures are present (structural limitation of the safety integrity of the hardware of sub-systems).
IO-Link IO-Link is the first globally standardized IO technology (IEC 61131-9) for communicating with sensors and actuators. The efficient point-to-point communication is based on the long-familiar 3-wire sensor and actuator connection with no additional requirements for the cable material. IO-Link is thus not a fieldbus, but rather the evolutionary extension of the previous and proven connection technology for sensors and actuators.
Category [Cat.] Classification of the safety-relevant parts of a controller with respect to their resistance to faults and their subsequent response to a fault which is achieved by the structure of the arrangement of the parts, the fault detection, and/or their reliability.
MTTFd Expected value of the average time until a dangerous failure
Multi-function port (safe)
For connecting switches/sensors which in addition to safe signals also contain additional func-tions (e.g. driving an interlocking solenoid, status signals, ...).
OSSD (Output signal switching device)
The Part of an ESPE which is connected to the machine control system and moves to the OFF condition if the sensor section is actuated during normal operation. In the safe state (OFF) both signals are LOW, otherwise they are pulsed to a HIGH level.
Performance Level [PL]
Discrete level which specifies the capability of safety-relevant parts of a controller for performing a safety function under predictable conditions.
PFHD Probability of a dangerous failure per hour: average probability of a dangerous failure per hour of operation of a safety-relevant sub-system for performing the prescribed safety functions over a given period of time.
PROFIsafe Defines how safety devices (E-STOP switches, light grid, ...) communicate safety with each other over PROFINET so that they can be used in safety automation tasks up to SIL3 (Safety Integrity Level). It implements safe communication using a profile, i.e. a special format of the user data and a special protocol.
Response time (for devices)
Time between action and reaction, e.g. a safety I/O module: – Time between detection of a (state) change on the input port and the availability of this infor-
mation on the communication interface (IO-Link).– Time between detection of new information on the communication interface (IO-Link) and its
implementation on the output port.
SFF (Safe Failure Fraction)
Fraction of the overall failure rate of a subsystem that does not result in a dangerous failure.
SIL Safety Integrity Level: a relative level of risk-reduction provided by a safety function, or to specify a target level of risk reduction, whereby the requirements for a given SIL are not consistent among all of the functional safety standards; in the European functional safety standards based on the IEC 61508 standard four SILs are defined, with SIL 4 the most dependable and SIL 1 the least.

Eigenschaften des E/A-Moduls4
deutsch

Begriff Definition
Ausgangsport (sicherer)
Zum Anschluss von Aktoren
CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
DCavg (Diagnostic Coverage average)
GSDML (Generic Station Description Markup Language)
B. Ansteuerung Zuhaltemagnet, Meldesignale, …) beinhalten.
OSSD (Output signal switching device)
