What is SubNetting ?

OSI modelTo address the problem of networks increasing in size and in

need to create a network model.

ISO therefore, released the OSI reference model in 1984.


Router configuration

Router always has 2 configurations:-

Running config:-

IN ram determines how the routers is currently operating

Show runnin-config

STARTup config:-

In NVRAM, determines how the router will operate after

next reload

Show startup-config


Logging into the router

-router>-->(user mode prompt)

-router>enable

Router#-->(privileged mode prompt)

Configuring the router

-Terminal (entering the commands directly)

-router# Configure terminal

-router(Config)#


Deleting the configuration in router

Router#erase startup-config

OR

Router#write erase

Router#reload

Router will start up again, but in setup mode, Since startup-config

file does not exists.


Routing

Routing is exchange of routes between different networks.

There are 3 types of networks.

1. Default routing

2. Static routing

3. Dynamic routing


Dynamic routing

A routing protocol is the communication B/w

different routers.
