Whether it is on your horse, or one of their show quality lesson horses, Riverview Farm offers a positive and knowledgeable atmosphere. They assist students in reaching their goals by finding out what is best suited to each horse and rider and then using that to help each individual shine! Multiple instructors, teaching 6 days a week April-November, assure

flexible scheduling. Riverview Farm also offers summer camps and is proud to be the home of the Pink Spurs 4-H group. Contact local owner Lisa Bosse for more information! Our August Business of the Month was Entertainment Plus DJ Service. No one likes attending a boring party! With Entertainment Plus DJ

Service, it is their mission to turn every special event, party or function into a great experience for you and your guests. They will help you throw a great party that both you and your guests will enjoy! Owner Dave Biron provides all his clients with an advance request sheet so the music you want is at your event. He offers military and public safety discounts and even provides trivia, dance contests and prizes to make your event one to remember for years to come!

Our September Business of the Month was Rockin’ T Equine Rescue & Sanctuary. Rockin’ T is Maine’s second largest horse sanctuary, situated on a vast 38 acre plot. The sanctuary houses elderly, sick, or otherwise rejected horses and an assortment of other animals as well. A five member core team, along with local blacksmiths and veterinarians

routinely nurse, groom, and comfort upwards of 35 animals at any given time. “To witness the arrival of a former race horse with a wounded leg matching his broken spirit and to understand that the weeks to follow at the sanctuary will transform him into a relaxed, contented animal is to realize and appreciate the mission of Rockin’ T Equine Rescue.” - Rockin’ T Equine RescueOwner Janet Tuttle has a special place in her heart for these animals and we are lucky

to have Rockin’ T Equine Rescue in our community.

Put Your Equityto Practical Use

“If we had the money, we would _____________.”Fix the roof. Add a room. Consolidate bills. Pay the kids’ college tuition. However you fill in the blank, get it done affordably with our Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC).

• Low variable rate (Prime plus 0%)• Low closing costs• Funds can be accessed by check, through Home Banking or at the teller line• Save on taxes: The interest you pay may be tax deductible, while credit card and auto loan interest payments are not. Talk to your tax advisor about how much of your Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) interest may be tax deductible.

A HELOC can give you an added level of financial security for the future. Having an open line of credit on your house can be a valuable tool. It serves as a cash insurance policy, giving you financial flexibility when and should you need it. A HELOC gives you the ability to draw upon the value of your home, but you’re never obligated to do so. You can have peace of mind knowing that you have access, if needed, without incurring debt.

Did you know that some Card Issuers will require the use of a PIN when using your credit card for cash advances? Do you know your PIN?Having the PIN requirement protects you. If you should lose your card, a cash advance transaction will not be able to be processed without the assigned PIN.If you have a Lisbon Credit Union VISA credit card and don’t have or know your PIN, contact us and we will gladly mail one to you.

Dealing with Financial Setbacks Two steps forward and three steps back. This is how it may feel when you are faced with a financial setback. It is extremely difficult to stay ahead in today’s world, especially if the unexpected happens. With ever increasing food, fuel, and everyday living expenses, how do you save for the unexpected so that you may stay financially healthy at all times? How do you handle unexpected financial setbacks when they do occur? Fear, depression, and avoidance are common ways to handle financial difficulties. It doesn’t have to be that way. Taking control, making a plan, and asking for help are the best ways in which to deal with financial setbacks. Below are some ways to make your financial world easier to manage and produce positive results. • Track Your Spending – If your budget continuously comes up short or you lack enough to save for setbacks should they occur, take a week or two and log all your purchases and spending. This will highlight areas that are draining your wallet. You just might be surprised how much you’re spending in a week on non-essential items. • Make a Priority List - Sit down and make a list of all your “Must Haves.” Make sure to include the due dates or weekly expense for each. This list should include housing, utilities, and any expense needed to secure a roof over your head. Account for a vehicle, gas, and related travel expenses so that you can make it to work to earn that next paycheck. Also, debts with monthly payments, such as credit cards or loans should be listed. Keeping these on track will ensure no added fees, increased interest rates, or aggressive collection action. Food and personal items will also need to be calculated. Be honest with yourself… it’s your list! • Construct a Plan - Your Priority List will allow you to start making a financial plan. You will know what needs to be paid and when. Start budgeting individual debts weekly or biweekly depending on your pay schedule and begin saving for times of financial difficulty and setback. It helps to make a plan on paper. If you see it, it will happen! • Talk About It - If, after making a plan or when a setback occurs you are coming up short, be open and honest about it. Every credit union, bank, and utility company has a Debt Resolution or Collections Department. People are in place to help you! Most have programs or ways in which to make it easier for you to make payment. Establishing an open line of communication is a great way to work through budgeting shortages, past due balances and avoiding aggressive collection action. We all know how hard it is in today’s world and it is okay to ask for help. • Debt Management Companies - There are companies that extend their services to help you create budgeting plans. Be sure to research which company you choose to work with. One trusted company is Money Management International. This company has offices in Portland and may be reached at 1-800-706-1975. Your Credit Union encourages a proactive approach to financial hardship and setbacks. We are always ready and willing to help you. Contact us to answer questions and discuss your individual financial needs.

Same Day ACH Payments What This Change Means for You

When making a payment, have you come to expect some lag-time between the transaction and the funds clearing your account? This has now gone away. For example, if you pay your cable bill by telephone in the morning, the funds could be cleared from your account before 5:00 PM the same day. On September 15, 2017, the Federal Reserve started processing same-day ACH (Automated Clearing House) payments. This is an option that allows funds to move more quickly than in the past, further modernizing current payment systems. Retailers can opt to convert the checks you write to ACH by using the same system that is used for bill payments. Payments you schedule via websites, telephone or mobile apps where you provide your account number could also be affected by this change.Tips to be PreparedDon’t Assume Funds Will Clear the Day After: Purchase habits can be hard to break. Get in the habit now of planning for funds to clear at the time of your transaction.Know the Balance in Your Checking Account: Keeping a low balance can have a negative impact in the event a same-day ACH payment tries to clear your account and you don’t have the funds available. Even with overdraft protection, keeping your account balance at a level that supports your spending is the best way to keep your account in the green. If you don’t have an Overdraft Protection Line of Credit, apply for one today!
