ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: The Blue Jays missed a chance to sweep the Royals and fell in the series nale in Burlington 4-3 on Wednesday. Blue eld led 3-1 in the seventhinning of an error-laden contest, but the home team rallied. Patrick Leonard and Kenny Diekroeger hit back-to-back homers off Jeremy Gabryszwski to tie the game in the botof the seventh. An inning later against Les Williams, Henry Morenos controversial double down the third-base line set up Terrance Gores squeeze bunt that brought Cam Cohome with the winning run. The Baby Jays had the tying and go-ahead runs aboard in the ninth, but Matt Dean lined into a 6-4 double play to end the game. Burlington made errors, including two on one play in the fourth that sent in a run, but Blue eld couldnt come out with the victory.

VS. THE METS: The Blue Jays dominated the Mets in 2011, especially at Bowen Field. Blue eld won ve of six meetings, including a three-game home sweep from July 15by a combined score of 17-3. Two weeks later in Kingsport, the Jays won two out of three. The Mets were able to hold Art Charles at bay for the most part. Charles was only 21 (.143) against the Mets in 2011, though he did drive in ve runs in six games.

JENSEN: The righty from Ormond Beach, FL starts the series opener tonight. He allowed three runs in ve innings of work in his 2012 debut against Johnson City onSaturday. A year ago for Blue eld he allowed 14 earned runs in 11.1 innings in four Appy League starts. He really excelled in eight Gulf Coast League starts to begin his careerpitching to a 1.77 ERA with an 8.9 K/9 rate to earn a one-game call-up to low-A Lansing. Between three levels he struck out 56 batters in 57 innings of work. A decorated huEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL, Tucker was named Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2011, also earning NAIA Second-Team All-America The 22-year-old is the grandson of 1958 American League MVP Jackie Jensen.

GANT: 19-year-old righty John Gant looks to recover from a rough outing against Greeneville on Friday. The Astros reached him for ve runs on eight hits in ve innings. Hnot get the decision in striking out six without a walk. He was a 21st-round pick in last years draft coming out of Wiregrass Ranch High School in Wesley Chapel, FL. In his season, he went 6-0 with a 1.90 ERA and two no-hitters and was named All-North Suncoast Pitcher of the Year. He allowed six runs in 8.1 innings in four appearances in the last year. He had committed to Long Island University prior to signing with the Mets.

SWEEPLESS IN BURLINGTON: The Baby Birds couldnt nish the sweep last night and had to settle for a series victory. It would have been their rst sweep at BurlingAthletic Stadium since at least 2004 (MiLBs digital records only date back to 2005). Blue eld did take all three games of a set at Bowen Field from July 27-29 last season.BA-DA-BA-BA-BA, IM GLOVIN IT: Despite making two errors last night, the Blue Jays are leading the Appy League with a .971 elding percentage. They were thlast team in the circuit to reach double digits in miscues. The pitching staff has generated a lot of grounders and the in eld has done a good job of scooping them up. ShortstopDickie Joe Thon leads the league in SS assists (27) and second baseman Christian Lopes is tied for the lead in 2B assists (26). Matt Dean is second at the hot corner with 17.WORK OF ART: Art Charles is once again tearing up Appalachian League pitching. He leads the circuit in slugging percentage (.800) and on base percentage (.553) and ifor second in home runs with three. That might explain why opposing hurlers are so wary of facing him, issuing the rst baseman a league-leading 12 walks. With a single and awalk in last nights loss, Charles has now reached base in all nine Blue Jays games this season. Princetons John Alexander.is the only other player to reach in every game so 2012, but his OBP is nearly half that of Charles (.553 to .294). Arts on-base streak dating back to last season is up to 17.The day before he began that streak on August 23, 2he had just had a 15-gamer snapped, so the Bakers eld native has reached in 32 of his last 33 games.SEVEN-UP: With his fth-inning single last night, out elder Carlos Ramirez extended his hitting streak to seven games. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native is h.346 (9-for-26) with a hit in every game hes played. Only Elizabethon 1B/OF Rory Rhodes and Johnson City 2B Ildemaro Vargas (both eight) are riding longer hitting streaks

ROLLING MORE SEVENS: Ramirez isnt the only Blue Jay to reach base in his last seven games. Out elder Jacob Anderson and second baseman Christian Lopes havealso gotten aboard in their last seven contests. Shortstop Dickie Joe Thons seven-gamer ended last night. Lopes is hitting .280 and getting on at a .379 clip during his streak, which goes back to Opening Day. Anderson is hitting .238, but his OBP is a robust .448 over the course of his run.
