Mr. Gibson’s Desk: Principal Notes
It was a busy weekend here at MCS! Thank-you to the parents and staff who volunteered their time to make the
Wildcat Chaos basketball tournament such a huge success! All monies raised through events such as this go to
directly support our athletics programs. A very special thank you goes out to Mr. Hayden for making this
possible!
The upcoming month of February is a short one for our students. Between Family Day, Teacher’s Convention
and an additional staff organizational day, the month is sure to fly by. With all of the professional learning
taking place this month, I believe it is important for our families and community to understand how strong a
learning culture we have here at MCS; staff and students alike. I am constantly amazed when teachers come
back from learning and their first impulse is to find a way share and implement new strategies and programs
with their students and other staff.
Recently, I was supported by the Foothills School Division to attend a workshop in California for principals
new to the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. In this intensive three day seminar, I dove
deep into the philosophy of PYP and learned strategies to maintain the programme from an administrative
standpoint. Secondly, I was able to network with other principals in similar positions from Canada, USA,
Mexico, and Columbia. At our recent staff learning day, I shared some of the gems I had learned, and some of
the questions I still had and we had an opportunity to build our collective understanding of what it means to be
in a PYP programme.
This month we also have our second parent teacher interview opportunity. To streamline the process of making
appointments we have adopted a new scheduling system. As with anything new, we will ask for your feedback
on how well the system works with your family. If you have any issues please do call the office and we can
help book your appointment.
Paperless feedback:
The survey posted in the last Blue Newsletter seems to indicate a strong desire from respondents for an emailed
copy. Please remember, the paper version will still be available in the front office should you need one.
A Big Thank You! Thank you to all the parents and staff that
helped with our “Wildcats Chaos” Basketball Tournament! A special thanks
to Mr. Hayden for organizing such a
fantastic event.
