What is an LED?

LED is abbreviated as Light Emitting Diode. When Positive and Negative charges are to be recombine in active layer there should be emit light. Depending upon the materials used in active layer the colour and wavelength will be changed.

Page 4: BLUE LED

• Here Diode produces light by combining Positive and negative charges inside GALLIUM NITRIDE(GaN) crystal. We get resulting photons in the form of BLUE in colour.

DOPING OF GALLIUM NITRIDE:

• A difficult step in developing efficient BLUE LED’s was the growth and p- dopping alloys AlGaN, InGaN.

ADVANTAGES:

• Blue light can store four times more information than infrared light.• Low power consumption.• Energy Saving

DISADVANTAGES

• To make the diodes very difficult.• Expensive
