Dear Class of 2019 Students and Parents/Guardians:
It is hard to believe that the summer is over and we are welcoming the Class of 2019 to Irvington High School: Frank H. Morrell Campus. On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, a new and exciting school year began, and I am once again honored to serve as your scholar's Principal during their journey toward academic success. I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with information that will assist as you prepare for the 2015-2016 school year.
Be REAL - We expect our students to Be REAL: Respectful, Empathetic, Acccountable, & Life Learners. Be REAL are not only Irvington High School’s expectations, they are also our mantra. Please ask your son or daughter to memorize these expectations, for they will play a major role in your child’s daily school experience at Irvington High School.
The school events calendar and the school district calendar for 2015-2016 are posted on the school website, which will assist you in making plans for the school year.
We use our school's website and electronic mail to communicate with our families. Please check the website regularly. If your e-mail address changes, contact guidance so that we can update your information. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the main office. SCHOOL UNIFORM: Irvington High School’s
uniform policy must be
adhered to. Students are to
attend school donning navy
blue and white polo shirts or
white button down shirts;
and navy blue or beige skirts
and pants. Only school logos
should appear on all tops;
skirts and shorts must reach
the tip of their middle fingers
when arms are at their sides;
and cargo pockets are
unacceptable on pants and
shorts. Also, students are to
wear closed heel and toe
shoes with a heel height of
2 inches or less. Except for
religious or health reasons,
hats and scarves are not
to be worn or visible.
Additionally, seniors only are
allowed to wear gray skirts,
pants and shorts.
ABSENCES: It is
imperative that your child
report to school daily.
Eighteen or more
unexcused absences will result in non- ‐credit status
and all courses that were
scheduled will have to be
repeated the following
year, regardless of passing
grades received. Please
provide us with a current
and active phone number;
you will be notified of all
absences via recorded phone calls. This will help
you keep abreast of your
child’s attendance activities.
IDENTIFICATION
CARDS:
ID cards will be issued to
students during the first
week of school. For
security and safety reasons,
these cards must be worn
and visible at all times.
When directed, ID cards
must be presented to staff
and faculty upon request.
ELECTRONIC
DEVICES:
Cell phones and all electronic
devices must be turned off
and put away before entering
the school building. Electronic
devices are allowed during
lunch, but video recording
and picture taking is
unacceptable. Under no
circumstances will students
be allowed to charge their
electronic devices in the
school building. All phone
calls must be received and
sent in the school’s main
office.
LOCKERS:
Lockers will be assigned to
each student on the first day
of school. Sharing of lockers
is not permitted.
OPEN HOUSE:
Irvington High School’s Open
House on Thursday,
October 1st held from
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
where you will meet your
son or daughter’s new
teachers and staff members.

Total 125 credits for Graduation from Irvington High School with a State-endorsed diploma:
20 credits of English Language Arts 20 credits of Mathematics
15 credits of Science 15 credits of Social Studies
20 credits of Health and Physical Education (5 credits of Physical Education is
required for each year of enrollment) 5 credits of Career Education and Consumer, Family, and
Life Skills 5 credits of Visual and Performing Arts 2.5 credits in Financial
Literacy 5 credits of World Language (District promotes 10 or more credits of World Language) 22.5 credits of Electives**

The doors of Irvington High
School open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 8:45 a.m. Students who arrive to
school after 8:21 a.m. will be marked tardy. Thus, it is important that your
son/daughter arrive to school on time. Students are
dismissed at 2:45 p.m.

9 JROTC tries to break 5K record

To commemorate the 99th Army JROTC Anniversary, the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps of the
Irvington Public Schools took part in an effort on Saturday, April 25, 2015 to break the Guinness World
Record for having the "most participants in a 5K run (multi-location). From around the country and world
(Germany, Japan, Italy, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Philippines), Irvington JROTC Crusaders
(23), as one of the more than 1,900 high schools in the country/world with JROTC programs, joined the
celebration by running the 5K course at Fort Dix, New Jersey. The run started at 12:00 noon. The day
was fun, and everything went well. I will remember this day. Crusader top finishers. Male - M. Celestin,

Emergency School Closings / Delayed Opening Schedules When the schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Irvington Fire Department will sound an alarm at 6:00
a.m. and again at 7:00 a.m. This notifies the Township residents that the District is closed for the day. Please do not

From Essex News Daily - Editor IRVINGTON – Evander Jeanty of Irvington High School receives his school’s 2015 Best Teammate Award during a recent ceremony at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center which honored 37 student-athletes representing each Super Essex Conference high school. The Best Teammate Award, in association with the Museum and Investors Bank, is given to an SEC student-athlete whose outstanding character has demonstrably impacted his or her team by always supporting teammates and promoting team unity.
