20 randomly selected Rock Port High School girls
No
By Jackie Bradley
Yes On Thursday, November 19, six FCCLA officers and two
chaperones set out on an eight-hour trek to Indianapolis for the annual National Cluster Meeting. On the way there, the ladies stopped at Hannibal, Mo., to visit the historical streets where Mark Twain grew up before stopping for the evening in Champagne, Ill.
This year, the FCCLA officers chose to attend the Leader-ship Academy, which specialized in the training and devel-opment of individual and team leader qualities. This acad-emy also presented the opportunity to network with other FCCLA members all across the country. The girls were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the speakers and the conferences themselves. When asked about her per-sonal experience regarding the leadership academy, Dayle Davis said, “I really enjoyed the ice breakers that we had at the beginning of each meeting. My personal favorite was when we had to go around the room and take ‘selfies’ with strangers.”
In between conferences, the group was able to have lei-sure time to sightsee and explore Indianapolis. They at-tended the famous Children’s Museum, which featured many educational and entertaining exhibits.
Finally after three days of work and play, it was time to pack up and head back to Rock Port. On the way home, the group stopped in Springfield, Ill., to visit the Lincoln Museum. This was a favorite amongst the girls and the two chaperones.
The officers spent many previous weeks fundraising to finance this trip. They pumped gas at Casey’s, held a lunch for Rock Port teachers, and held an ice cream bar for stu-dents. The Rock Port FCCLA officers would like to sincerely thank all of those who donated towards this trip. A special thanks to Tarkio Hy-Vee for providing the ice cream for the ice cream bar and Morgan Trust for their generous dona-tion which assisted the chapter extensively.
