Addressing the Brics and Bimstec Summits here, he said Pakistan "embraces and radiates" the darkness of terrorism and pressed for "comprehensive" and "collective" action against the menace and its supporters, warning that any selective ap- proach will be "counter-productive." At the Brics Summit here attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and leaders of other member countries, Modi lambasted Pakistan without naming it, saying it not only shelters terrorists but also "nurtures a mindset" that "loudly proclaims that terrorism is justified for political gains." He also appeared to be sending out a message to the Chinese President whose country has blocked designation of Pak-based terror group JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the UN as he said that those supporting terrorism have to be "punished, not rewarded." Asking the BRICS nations, which also include Brazil and South Africa, to act together against the threat posed by terrorism, Modi said response to terrorism must be nothing less than comprehensive and that countries must act both "individually and collectively." "In our own region, terrorism poses a grave threat to peace, security and development. Tragically its mothership is a country in India's neighbourhood. Terror modules around the world are linked to this mothership. This country shelters not just terrorists. It nurtures a mindset. A mindset that loudly proclaims that terrorism is justified for political gains. "It is a mindset that we strongly condemn. And, against which we as BRICS need to stand and act together. BRICS must speak in one voice against this threat," he said at the Summit also attended by Brazilian President Michel Temer and South African President Jacob Zuma. I DON'T ENDORSE SEX COMEDIESp a g e 3

KIKU SHARDAMUMBAI, (IANS) Comedian Kiku Sharda says he wants to stay away fromsex comedies. "That's not the kind of comedy that I am comfortable with. I don'tendorse sex comedies. Even in TV shows, there are many double meaning dia-logues and I am not really comfortable doing that," Kiku told IANS. "There are allkinds of films being made but I feel watching a film in a theatre is quite a familyexperience and when you can't do that, what's the point?" he added.Kiku said: "If I am embarrassed about what I am doing, I would not like to do that.Having said that, you can't take away anything. Every kind of cinema is welcome

and all kinds of films are being accepted." Currently seen on screen in "The KapilSharma Show", he says he has no plans to come up with his own show as he is very

happy with the team."I have no plans to come up with my own show and I am happy with the family I am working

with. I believe shows last longer when ego is zero. Here we share a very healthy relationshipand nobody is bothered about who is bigger or smaller actor. We help each other with lines. Kapil allows others to excel in the showand that's the beauty of the show," said the actor, who will also be seen in a film titled "2016 - The End".Talking about the film, he said: "Every actor has the desire to do films, but I never had that approach. I didn't want to docharacter roles because when you are doing comic characters, you only get character roles. Having said that, I reallylike the whole idea of doing films and this film has a different story line which prompted me to be par t of it." Directed byJaideep Chopra, the movie also features Rahul Roy, Divyendu Sharma, with Harshad Chopda and Priya Banerjee.

Kajol Surprised at people pointingfingers at married actressesNEW DELHI, (IANS) Marriage does not mean end of careerfor an actress in Bollywood. And that has been the case forthe longest time, says actress Kajol, who feels the hypearound it is due to extra attention paid to the marital status ofwomen. "Married actresses have been working in films fora very long time. It's just that they never came into focusand people never pointed them out and said, 'Hey, you're mar-ried and you're working'," Kajol told IANS in an interviewfrom Mumbai. The mother of two added: "You had aSharmila Tagore, you had my mother (Tanuja),you had Saira Banu, you had so many actresses, who worked after they got married, in fact moreafter they got married than before they got mar-ried. Dimple Kapadia for that matter. "So yes, there are actresses who have been workingpre- and post-marriage and nothing changed intheir entire imagery. There were a lot of ac-tresses who did not work at all once they gotmarried. And that is a possible choice, I be-lieve. "And, of course, there were some whojust didn't make it and chose to use mar-

riage as an excuse. So, I don'tthink I'm a path-breaker in thatsense. Maybe because the spot-light is on me right now. But Ididn't do it first. I just followed insome very illustrious footsteps."Kajol decided to get married toactor Ajay Devgn at the peak ofher career. Their wedding tookplace in 1999, and they have a13-year-old daughter namedNysa and son Yug, six. After the bir th of her daughter in2003, Kajol did a few films suchas "Fanaa", "U Me Aur Hum", "MyName Is Khan", "We Are Family"and "Toonpur Ka Superrhero". BJP frustrated by AAP's rise in Gujarat: Delhi ministerFROM ASHISH MISHRA

New Delhi, (IANS) The BJP is frustrated by the rise of the Aam AadmiPar ty (AAP) in Gujarat and is desperate to undermine a rally in Suraton Sunday by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a Delhi ministerhas claimed. Claiming the AAP was changing the political discoursein Gujarat, Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra said the people in PrimeMinister Narendra Modi's home state wanted an alternative and theAAP was filling that space."We are providing them clean and issue-based politics. This is thereason people in Gujarat are connecting with us," the AAP leader toldIANS in an interview. Mishra said the AAP was determined to fight theassembly elections next year on local issues and not let theBharatiyaJanata Par ty (BJP) hijack the election agenda. "BJP always wantsthat no one should talk about local issues in Gujarat. So time andagain they diver t the people from real issues."This has been a trend in Gujarat. Sometimes they fought elections onthe issue of 'Mian Musharraf' or other global matters but they neverraised or addressed issues ofGujarat in the assembly elections. "Thistime it is different," Mishra said. "We are talking about corruption, unemployment, land acquisition law, the state of traders and busi-nessmen, and the condition of Dalits and tribals."Mishra, who also holds the tourism por tfolio, said the BJP's frustra-tion in Gujarat vis-a-vis the AAP was patently visible. He alleged thatBJP activists were busy tearing up AAP posters and bringing downAAP hoardings announcing Kejriwal's October 16 rally at Yogi Ground

in Surat. "This level of frustration comes only when the political battleturns very serious."Kejriwal will reach Ahmedabad on October 14 evening and will be inGujarat for the next two days. Besides addressing the Surat rally, heis expected to meet businessmen, farmers and other sections of so-ciety. Mishra said the BJP tried its best to stop an AAP bike rally inSurat last week but could mobilise only about 25 activists. The AAPrally on the other hand drew hundreds of bikes and many more riders. He said the BJP was also frustrated because its President Amit Shah'srally in Surat on September 8 was disrupted by Patidar leader HardikPatel's suppor ters and he could only speak for about four minutes."For Arvind's rally, we are getting amazing response. This is makingthe BJP frustrated. The public will give them a solid answer if they tryto create problems at the rally," he added. The AAP leader recalledthat the Gujarat government was not initially ready to permit theKejriwal rally but the Gujarat High Cour t intervened.According to Mishra, the Congress had ceased to be an effectiveopposition in Gujarat, where Narendra Modi became Chief Minister in2001 and held the post until he moved to New Delhi in 2014 as PrimeMinister. "People in Gujarat are fed up with the BJP," Mishra said. "TheCongress has lost the will to win there. If we see election data, wesee that the BJP's vote share has fallen... It will go down fur ther."Mishra said the AAP was slowly building its organisation and dis-cussing and understanding the issues of Gujarat. "We are getting avery good response. This will be Arvind's first big rally in Surat.

Why Indian universities scoredismally low in global rankingsNEW DELHI: Indian educational institutions have again had apoor run in global ratings with none, including the prestigiousIITs, making it to the top 100 of the QS World UniversityRankings. And exper ts are now rooting for a complete over-haul of the education system in a country that is home tonearly one-fifth of the world's population.Only two institutions could make it to the top 200 universitiesof the QS Rankings -- the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) inBengaluru at 152, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi at 185. While there were four more IITs ranked amongthe 400 top universities, the other jewel in the crown of India'shigher education system, the University of Delhi, didn't figureeven among the top 500. Exper ts attribute several reasonsfor such poor showing, from lack of competent teachers toshor tage of funds. But for some, the reasons do not solelyconcern the quality of the institutions per se."Two of the factors on which educational institutes are rankedare the number of foreign faculty and foreign students. We scorezero on these two," Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT-Delhi, told IANS. Hesaid ranking agencies were of the view that "if you are globally-reputed then why don't students and teachers flock to your places? And then you get marked down on the criterion of 'perception' aswell". Rao said enrolling international students at the cost of do-mestic students was always a concern."But owing to the rankings pressure, from this year we are startinga special fee structure for foreign students, and JEE (Joint EntranceExam) will be conducted in five different countries from next year.We are looking forward to hiring foreign faculty on contract basis aswell, but the question remains who will stay on at our salary stan-dards," asked IIT-Delhi Director. Jamia Milia Islamia Vice Chancel-lor Talat Ahmed also underlined the same points even as he dis-credited the world university ranking system as prone to riggingand unsuitable for Indian educational institutes."The criteria laid down by them (ranking agencies) are favourableto Western universities. America hunts its faculty from around theworld, and scoops away the most brilliant of minds. Moreover, good students who don't get accommodated here leave for Westerncountries. Both these work in their favour," Ahmed told IANS."We have ended up creating a few 'islands of excellence' in thecountry. That's all. But we are trying to change that. National Institu-tional Rankings Framework (NIRF) is a step in that direction," hesaid, referring to the internal assessment methodology of the Min-istry of Human Resource Development adopted last year. How-ever, the assessment system is not in itself a panacea for all ills.As C. Raj kumar, Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global Univer-sity, said, global rankings cannot be ignored because "thatwill only reinforce our inability to focus on improving thequality of our higher education institutions. "The last decadehas witnessed enormous progress in universities across Asiasuch as China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taipeiand, of course, Japan. Unfor tunately, India has not seen thisimprovement."

Why do Indian-Americans support HillaryClinton over Donald Trump?

BY ARUN KUMAR

Modi government spent Rs 36 crore on publicity to mark two years

WASHINGTON: The Indian-Americans largely suppor t Demo-cratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton because of theunique relationship she has built with the community and India, according to one of her major backers. "Historically, Indian-Americans, like other Asian Americans and a lot of otherimmigrant groups, have been big suppor ters of the DemocraticPar ty," Frank Islam, an India-born entrepreneur and philanthro-pist told."It has been more inclusive and more welcoming toward allimmigrants," he said, adding "I doubt any other Americanpolitician has been able to build the kind of relationship withthe Indian American community - and India as Clinton.Additionally she has been a champion of the middle class fordecades," Islam said. "As President, she wants to providebetter health care and better jobs for all Americans.""Hillary has been a staunch ally of India and she recognisedthat Indian-Americans have enabled the US to be a strongerand healthier nation," he added. Roughly 70 per cent Indian-Americans plan to vote for Hillary Clinton compared with 7 percent for her Republican rival Donald Trump, according to mostrecent polls cited by the Washington Post."I am a big fan of Hindu and a big fan of India," Trump told arally organised by the Republican Hindu Coalition in Edison,New Jersey over the weekend. He also praised Indian Prime

Minister Narendra Modi as a "great man", saying the two nationswould be "best friends" and "there won't be any relationship moreimpor tant to us".

"Indian-Americans, as a community, have shunned DonaldTrump, and rightfully so," asser ted Islam. But he conceded that"Trump has touched the nerve of angry and uneducated whiteworking class voters. His message on job losses is resonatingwith these people," he said, adding "Clinton is making everyeffor t to reach out to this demography. With her strong economicmessage, I am confident she will succeed conver ting a signifi-cant section of this group to her side."Islam was also confident that Clinton will offer "true friendship" toIndia and "take the US-India relations to the next level". Notingthat "since 1992, the US-India relations have gotten better andbetter under every president, whether a Democrat or Republican,"he said. "I have no doubt that the ties will continue to be nur turedunder a Clinton administration.""There will be focus on trade and economic partnership, oncooperation in the area of defence and counter-terrorism, and onclimate change and other global issues," Islam said noting thereis bipartisan suppor t for India in the US. Islam, who is on HillaryClinton's national finance committee, found it hard to say howmuch money the community has raised for the Clinton campaign, but he himself is on pace to raise close to $1 million for it.Republican Hindu Coalition's founder, Shalabh Kumar, is one ofrival Trump's biggest fundraisers, according to the WashingtonPost. Together with his immediate family, Kumar has givenalmost $2 million to super political action committees thatsupport Trump, it said.

Police said Singh, co-incharge of the par ty's Gujarat affairs, had informed Delhi Police about joining the probe on September 16, but failed to appear before the investigators. An NBW against Singh was obtained from the court on Thursday evening, a senior police officer said. "A case of extor tion was registered against Gulab Singh and his associates, including his driver andpersonal staff, following a complaint by proper ty dealers Deepak Sharma and Rinku Diwan," Joint Commissioner of Police (South Western Range) Dependra Pathak told IANS.The complainants claimed that Singh and his associates Satish, Devinder, Jagdish and others are involved in extor ting money from builders who were often threatened with demolition of their buildings,Pathak said. A case under Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Bindapur police station on September 13.

MODI GOVERNMENT PITTED AGAINST INDIA'S DIVERSITY: YOGENDRA YADAVNEW DELHI: Accusing the Narendra Modi government of being the "biggest challenge" to the values of democracy and diversity, Yogendra Yadav, who leads India's newest political par ty, says all existingpar ties have let the country down. The country needs a new (political) par ty to defend the idea of India," Yadav told IANS, explaining the rationale behind Swaraj India, the new political par ty he has foundedalong with lawyer Prashant Bhushan. "Our country is founded on some basic principles -- a democracy in which every citizen can have a voice, celebration of diversity and a development that brings well-being to the last person," Yadav said. His party, said Yadav, renews the "Idea of India." A former founding-member of the Aam Aadmi Par ty (AAP), Yadav said that almost all the existing political parties havefailed to protect the basic values of the country. He said the Congress and other parties were not fundamentally different from the Bharatiya Janata Par ty (BJP). "The Modi government represents the biggestchallenge to these values. But the Congress and other par ties... don't provide a genuine alternative... That is why we need Swaraj India."Is Swaraj India, launched on October 2, directed against the AAP? Yadav replied: "Our par ty is not directed against any one par ty. If anything, we are against the political establishment. "Ever since SwarajAbhiyan was formed (18 months ago), less than 10 percent of our energy has been directed against the AAP and its Delhi government. "We have campaigned on questions of land acquisition, drought, lootof common man's savings by banks to benefit corporate houses and against criminal-politician nexus. None of these major campaigns had anything to do with the AAP," he said.Yadav, who along with some others was forced out of the AAP following differences with its leader Arvind Kejriwal, said he does not see the AAP figuring very prominently on their horizon.

Lalu, Sharad Yadav silent overNitish Kumar's projection as PMPATNA, (IANS) RJD leader LaluPrasad and former JD-U PresidentSharad Yadav's refusal to com-ment on the projection of BiharChief Minister Nitish Kumar asPrime Ministerial material aheadof the 2019 general election hasfueled speculations about theirunhappiness over the matter.Lalu's Rashtriya Janata Dal ispar t of Bihar's ruling Grand Alli-ance along with Janata Dal-Unitedand the Congress. Sharad Yadavis known as the only heavyweightleader of the JD-U at the nationallevel. While Lalu is a former Rail-way Minister and former BiharChief Minister, Sharad Yadav is aformer union Minister and cur-rently the JD-U's Rajya Sabhamember from Bihar.Soon after senior JD-U leadersformally began to campaign forNitish Kumar as the prime min-isterial material during the two-day JD-U National Council meet-ing at Rajgir in Nalanda district

on Sunday, it was expected thatLalu and Sharad Yadav will ex-tend their suppor t.Contrary to these expectations,Sharad Yadav preferred to remainsilent despite repeated attempt bythe media to get his commentson the issue. Lalu said: "If NitishKumar is being projected as aPrime Ministerial candidate by hispar ty, it is their (internal) matter.Let them do it. I do not speak onall issues."Last month, Lalu and his youngerson Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, whois also Bihar Deputy Chief Minis-ter, had backed Nitish Kumar forthe Prime Minister's post anddubbed him "more capable thanModi". JD-U spokesman K.C.Tayagi, considered close to NitishKumar, said: "The Chief Ministeris capable for the Prime Minister'spost; he posssess all qualities tobe the Prime Minister and thecountry's people are looking upto him to provide dynamic lead-

ership." However, Tayagi admit-ted that the JD-U National Coun-cil meeing has so far not passeda resolut ion to project Nit ishKumar as the par ty candidate forthe top political post in the coun-try. Nitish Kumar formally tookover as the JD-U President afterthe National Council ratified hiselect ion at Rajgir. Nit ish waselected par ty President in April, replacing Sharad Yadav. Af terjoining hands with Lalu Prasad todefeat the Bharatiya Janata Par tyin the 2015 Bihar assembly polls,Nitish Kumar has been trying toform a non-BJP alliance of re-gional par ties at the national level tocounter the BJP and Narendra Modi.He even visited Uttar Pradesh,Jharkhand, Haryana and Kerala as partof this endeavour. Even his deci-sion to impose total prohibition inBihar and repeated appeals toother state governments to followsuit are seen as attempts to playa role in te national politics.

This biopic of the social activist Anna Hazare is not onlymotivational, but also inspiring. The film does not have thetechnical finesse of today's glossies, but it relays its robust

message with simple, rustic enthusiasm. Written-directed byShashank Udapurkar, who is also in the title role, this filmbookends with Anna Hazare's par ticipation in the India AgainstCorruption movement in 2011, which paved the way for the passageof the Jan Lokpal Bill.In between the bookends, the film rolls out in a linear narrative from1946 onwards, highlighting the milestones in the life of KisanBaburao Hazare, which includes how he was anointed 'Anna' - anendearing term for older brother, in Marathi - after he conver ted hisdraught-stricken village to a verdant paradise. With the gesticula-tion of his hands and hollow facial movements, Shashank emulatesAnna to perfection. He is aptly supported with a retinue of aceactors from the Hindi and Marathi film industry which includeGovind Namdeo as the self-interested landlord of RaleganSiddhi Village, Kishore Kadam as Anna's father, Daya ShankarPandey as an alcoholic villager Ramya, Sharat Saxena as theArmy Commander Bharat Sinha. They all have their moments of on-screen glory.Tanishaa Mukerji as the journalist trailing Anna's roots, Rajit Kapur

as the anchor at ABP channel are merely used to take the narrativeforward. They are flat and perfunctory. On the writing front, somescenes are lazily crafted. They do not go beyond the dramatisationof the event. Especially evident is the scene when during the 1965war in Khemkaran sector Anna's colleagues are killed in an aerialattack. The dialogues, too, like "Kante chubhte hain babu, khet meinchalte waqt, kante chubhte hain" - thorns hur t sir, while walking inthe fields, thorns hur t - gives the film a melodramatic flavour, reminding you of the films in the 1950s. In fact, some scenes jogyour memory to the 1957 Dilip Kumar starrer "Naya Daur".Mounted with moderate production values and shot in real loca-tions, ar t director Anil Watt's effor ts are wor th a mention. So arethe cinematography and costumes. The background score is loudand adds to the dramatisation. On his maiden directorial front,Shashank focuses the camera on his designed script and fails toavoid minor flaws, creatively. This is especially evident in thescene when his mother is older and the camera in mid-shotsfocuses on her badly patched visage. While the film delves and glorifies Anna's works, it antisepticallyeliminates Arvind Kejriwal and his coterie who had coaxed Anna tojoin the IAC movement, thus giving this film a unnecessarilyskewed slant. Overall, the film does deliver what it set out to do.

'SAAT UCHAKKEY'PRETENTIOUS YET ENTERTAINING

Movie Review

CAST: MANOJ BAJPAYEE, KAY KAY MENON,

ANUPAM KHER, VIJAY RAAZ, ADITI SHARMA,

APARSHAKTI KHURANA

RATING: **1/2

A cop and robbers story, "Saat Uchakkey" is a pretentiouslycreative film that offers lessons of life regarding hope, desireand fate. The prologue begins with a scene in a mental hospital

and co-relates the events with fables from the Panchatantra. Blendedwith abstract and reality and treated as a comedy, the film promisesyou an unusual cinema experience. Set in the hear t of old Delhi, thefilm revolves around seven good-for-nothings who want to becomerich. Pappi Jatwala (Manoj Bajpayee) is a failed entrepreneur dealingwith antiques. After hearing an old lady in his neighbourhood rantabout how the Diwan (Anupam Kher) has stolen and stacked herfamily treasures in his haveli, Pappi devises a plot to raid the Diwan'shome. How he bands his team and they execute the heist, forms thecrux of the drama. The narrative, packed with philosophical lessonspouted in rustic lingo abounds with profanity, is enter taining, yet un-satisfying. The tale becomes doubly engaging due to the uninhibitedlanguage and performances of the cast. Every actor is natural andplays their par t to perfection.Manoj Bajpayee, with a fringe hair-cut and a buffoonish demeanouras Pappi, makes for an unusual leader of the gang. His clumsy act

along with that of his team-mates is wor th a watch. His sudden, turbaned transformation is theatrical and unconvincing though. He isaptly suppor ted by Nitin Bhasin as Hagu, Vipul Vig as Ajji, AparshaktiKhurrana as Khappe and Jatin Sharma as Babbe. They are all notablyremarkable. Aditi Sharma, the only girl in the gang, is simply strikingand impressive as Sona - Pappi's lively, pragmatic and determinedlove interest.Vijay Raaz as Pappi's reluctant ally Jaggi, Kay Kay Menon as policeSub-Inspector Tejpal and Anupam Kher as the blind Diwan pining forhis dead wife, are impressive too. But they do not offer anythingnovel. Annu Kapoor as the philosophy-pouting vagabond Bichhi in avaguely chiselled character sketch, is imposing. But the abstract-ness of his character is what keeps him on the sidelines. On theproduction front, with ace production and sound designs coupled withstriking visuals, the film is well-packaged. The setting and the cultureis captured to perfection by cinematographer John Jacob Payyapalli'slens and the visuals are seamlessly layered by ace editor ShreeNarayan Singh. Overall, if you ignore the prologue and the denoue-ment, "Saat Uchakkey" is a pleasant film.

Bangladesh dominated from the first minuteto clinch the tie by a huge victory margin of 72 points - the biggest atthe 2016 World Cup. Aruduzzaman Munshi scored 17 points forBangladesh whereas Sabuj Mia scored nine tackle points. Australia'sWorld Cup campaign ended on a pathetic note, as they suffered theignominy of being the first team to not reach double figures in thetournament. Bangladesh still have an outside chance to make it to thesemi-finals but will have to rely on England to upset India in their nextmatch. Bangladesh made a solid start as they led 6-0 after threeminutes and Australia were staring at an all out. Bangladesh dulyinflicted an all out in the next minute to lead 9-0.Australia's raidersstruggled to get a foot in the game as Munshi scored four raid pointsfor Bangladesh in the first 10 minutes. It took Australia nine minutes to open their account as their defencemade a tackle to trail 1-14. Bangladesh were cruising to a comfort-able win leading 16-1 after 10 minutes. Australia suffered the secondall out of the match in the 12th minute to trail 21-1. Neither Australia'sattack nor their defence could cope with Bangladesh's intensity tocrumble under pressure. Not a single raider could score a point forAustralia in 15 minutes as they trailed 1-25. Zia-ur- Rahman scoredfive points in the first half for Bangladesh.Australia earned their second point -- a technical point -- in the 18thminute but Bangladesh immediately inflicted another all out in the19th minute to lead 32-2. IT'S 400 NOT OUT AS PAKISTAN BREAK WEST INDIESRESISTANCE TO WIN THE FIRST-EVER DAY NIGHT TEST IN DUBAI

AS DARREN BRAVO'S STALWART CENTURY GONE ALL IN VAIN

BEYOND THE BOUNDARY LINE

BY DR ADNAN KHAN

Test Cricket at its best, What a match we have had at Dubai, 400th test forPakistan & historic victory. Pakistan clinched a thrilling 56-run win over WestIndies in the day-night cliffhanger in Dubai despite a Darren Bravo century onthe final day. At one stage Ton-up Bravo thwarts Pakistan in day-night Test.Numerous great tales in the history of cricket have that moment where defeatis in the air, with little hope left of scripting a comeback. However, just in thenick of time, the talisman emerges to end the barren run of doom and gloom.Darren Bravo 116, the mainstay of the West Indies batting line-up, captivatedthe visitors in times of need with a exalted hundred on Day 5 to give themgenuine hope of pulling a heist. Unfortunately for West Indies, Bravo's epoch-making effort seemed to have been taken right from a Greek tragedy. With 84runs required for victory, Yasir Shah cajoled an uppish drive from Bravo andpouched the return catch. A crestfallen Bravo pausing briefly before almostcollapsing to his knees has to be the poignant moment of the Test match asPakistan celebrated long and hard. It will take sometime for Bravo to erasethe fine lines of pain and agony. Once Yasir bagged the vital scalp, WestIndies went down quickly, losing their last three wickets for 13 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq (42y and 142d) became the third oldest captain to win a Test afterWally Hammond (43 years) and WG Grace (48 years). Babar Azam washonoured with Test cap and he meets the reputation of selectors by becomingfourth Pakistan batsman to score 50+on Test debut batting at No.4. Azhar Aliand Bishoo achieve career-high rankings as Bravo returns to top 20. StylishWest Indies batsman Darren Bravo is the other player to make a big impactin the latest rankings. The 27-year-old left-hander, who played in the ICC U19Cricket World Cup 2008 in Malaysia, scored 87 and 116 in the Test in whichthe West Indies went down fighting. Consequently, Bravo has returned to thetop 20. The Windies fell to defeat despite battling hard on the final day. It wasa tense game but Pakistan was good enough to play the game of nerves intheir match number 400. Pakistan's victory means that Azhar Ali's triple is the11th made in a winning cause. The remaining 18 triples were drawn! DarrenBravo's valiant century was in vain as Pakistan finally break West Indies'resistance to win the first Test in Dubai. Only the 2nd time West Indies haveplayed 100 or more overs in the 4th inns of a Test in Asia. It is only the 3rdcentury by a WI batsman in 4th inns of an away Test since 2000. DarrenBravo's having five Test centuries In Asia in 27 inns and three hundredsoutside Asia in 58 inns. This is the first time Bravo has scored 50+ in bothinns of a Test. The hosts went into the final day needing eight wickets tosecure victory in the series opener but they were made to work hard by WestIndies, who have not beaten a major Test nation away from home sinceDecember 2007. The match was evenly poised at dinner with Pakistan need-ing four wickets and West Indies 114 runs short of their target with centurionBravo and captain Jason Holder at the crease. First time Yasir Shah hasconceded more than 200 runs in 8 Tests in UAE. Darren Bravo led the WestIndies resistance with a century but it wasn't enough to meet the brilliance ofmen in green. Bravo scored a 249-ball 116, taking his side to within 83 runsof the target, before Pakistan finally overcame his dogged resistance to wrestback a match that had looked like slipping away. Darren Bravo centuryalmost denies hosts in thriller but ultimately a little man again became asaviour for Pakistan. Yasir flew to his left to take the return catch of Bravo thatdecisively swung the match in Pakistan's favour. In his 17th Test match, YasirShah becomes fastest Asian cricketer to 100 Test wickets, beating R Ashwin(18 Tests) and fastest Pakistani to 100 Test wickets. Yasir Shah joined the 2ndfastest to 100 Test wickets to join the elite class of C Turner, S Barnes, CGrimmett. He is the quickest to reach 100 wickets in Tests in last 85 years, just in 17 matches. West Indies' last three wickets added 26 runs, but the

sting had gone out of the contest, and a pair of run-outs handed Pakistan ahard-fought win. They wrapped it up with 12 overs remaining, to register amemorable win in their 400th Test. Earlier Pakistan decided to bat again onwear out pitch on day 4. Bishoo's eight-for the best by a visiting bowler inAsia. The previous best was Lance Klusener's 8 for 64 against India at EdenGardens in 1996. The previous best by a West Indian in Asia was AndyRoberts' 7 for 64 in Chennai in 1975. Bishoo's figures are the best by anybowler in the UAE, eclipsing Saeed Ajmal's 7 for 55 against England, whichalso came in Dubai in January 2012.Pakistan equalling their worst last 6wickets collapses for Pakistan in Test.Cricket saw the innovation of day-night Tests with a pink ball for thefirst time when Australia played NewZealand at Adelaide in November lastyear, attempting to reverse the trendof dwindling Test crowds. Australiawon the low-scoring affair on the thirdday by a narrow three-wicket mar-gin, with Australian wicket-keeperPeter Nevill s 66 the top individualscore. Azhar Ali bettered that and puthis name in the records book with a366-minute stay at the crease, hit-ting 14 boundaries, but unlikeAdelaide where the attendance was123,736 over three days, the lack-luster figure of only 6000 peoplepassed through the gates in Dubai.Star Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali hasbecome only the 4th Pakistan to scorea triple century in a Test match on thesecond day as Pakistan took com-plete control of the 1st Test againstWest Indies. 14 years ago Azhar Alicame on as a substitute fielder to seeInzamam-ul-Haq score an epic triplehundred in Lahore and wished hecould emulate the legendary Paki-stan batsman in future. On Friday henotched his own with an unbeaten302 against West Indies in the sec-ond ever day-night Test in Dubai tojoin the elite class of batsmen. Butwhat distinguishes the 31-year-oldfrom the rest of the triple centurionsis that he became the first batsmanin day-night Test cricket to achievethe landmark. Azhar Ali now the firstBatsman to Score, Day Night TestHundred, Day Night Test Double Hun-dred, Day Night Test Triple Hundred. It was only 3rd time Pakistan hascrossed 500 without losing 3rdwicket. The second 150+ stand forPakistan in the first inns of a Test inlast 50 years.

Match-fixing was at its peak in 1996, says Shoaib AkhtarKARACHI (IANS): Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar claimed on Tuesday that match-fixing was at its rampant best in 1996 buthimself refrained from getting involved in the malpractice. "The atmosphere of the Pakistan dressing room was very strange...Trustme it was the worst possible dressing room," Akhtar was quoted as saying by Geo News. The "Rawalpindi Express" added he always stayed away from fixing circles and cautioned other people about it, advisingteam-mates to play with integrity and sincerity. Akhtar also claimed to have warned fixing convict Mohammad Amir back in2010 to avoid meeting people who could lure players to match fixing.Amir served a five-year suspension after admitting to fixing in 2010. He returned to action last year and is now a regular inthe Pakistan team. Akhtar said he intervened to put an end to a recent public verbal dispute between Javed Miandad andShahid Afridi, urging the two warring former Pakistan skippers to resolve the matter through dialogue."To resolve the matter through talks was the most possible solution. I spoke to Afridi and Javed bhai to settle the matteroutside cour t. If it would have go to the cour t, then a lot of names would have cropped up," Akhtar told Geo TV. "My mainconcern was that. I told Afridi not to send a legal notice and advised Javed bhai to keep control of his anger and not sayanything controversial in public. He exceeded limits by uttering unnecessary things." The 41-year-old said Miandad andAfridi's spat could have opened a Pandora's box, tarnishing Pakistan cricket's image worldwide. The bitter feud eruptedwhen Miandad accused Afridi of fixing matches for money. "Things are said in the heat of the moment and I also said someinappropriate things in the heat of the moment. I take them back," Miandad said recently. They later resolved their differ-ences, posting a video online in which Miandad took back his words and Afridi apologised, stating he had always consideredMiandad as his elder brother.
