BASKETBALL ALUM DAVID BOOTH PROMOTED

The New Orleans Hornets announced the hir-ing and promotion of several members of the basketball operations staff.

After serving as a scout for the Hornets since for the past two seasons, David Booth has been elevated to the position of Director of Scouting. Booth came to the Hornets in 2010 from his alma mater, DePaul University, where

he served as an assistant coach during the 2009-10 season. From 2005-2009, Booth served as a regional scout for the Memphis Griz-zlies.

David Booth is the second leading scorer in school history, Booth played at DePaul from 1988-92 and finished his collegiate career in the school’s top 10 in seven statistical categories. An honorable mention All-American in 1991, Booth was the school’s first-ever first team all-conference performer, earning All-Great Midwest accolades in 1992. He joined his alma mater during the 2009-10 season as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

JAZZ EXTEND TYRONE CORBIN’S DEAL

The Utah Jazz have exercised an option that will keep coach Tyrone Corbin under contract through the 2013-14 season. The team made the an-nouncement Tuesday.

Corbin was thrust into the job following the abrupt retirement of Jerry Sloan in February 2011. He guided the team to the playoffs despite a strike-shortened training camp and season.

Team officials praised Corbin for his poise and steadiness in develop-ing a young team under difficult circumstances.CLICK HERE to read the entire story.

BLUE DEMON WEEKLY FAN OF THE WEEKNAME: Bubba Gage

How long have you been a fan of DePaul Blue Demons? Most of my life. Since the Age of six, so call it 32 years.

What is you favorite piece of Blue Demon memorabilia?Have lots of stuff. You know I do have two DePaul tattoos? The old logo and the new logo. But my favorite piece is probably a framed signed picture of myself, Rod Strickland and Joey Meyer after a NCAA Tournament game in 1988.

What is your favorite Blue Demon memory? So many it’s hard to name one. Personally, it’s probably being at the NCAA Tournament game in Rosemont back in 1987 when we beat St John’s. I was with my dad and my best friend Jimmy. We were 13 and it was so exciting.

What is your all-time favorite Blue Demon? So many favorites. Mark Agurrie, Ty Corbin, Terry Cummimgs, Kenny Patterson, Stanley Brundy, Rod Strickland, Stephen Howard, Terence Greene, Tommy K. etc. but if I had to pick one it would be my man David Booth. He’s my all time favorite Blue Demon.

What is your first Blue Demon memory?Being a little kid watching DePaul on WGN. My mom used to get a kick out of it. Saturday afternoons all the kids would be outside playing and stuff and I’d be inside watching DePaul. I remember the day my mom brought me home a DePaul hat and a sweatshirt. I was seven and I wore it for like four days in a row.

If you could play any sport at DePaul, what would it be and why?You kidding? I would give almost anything to put on a DePaul uniform and run onto that floor at the Allstate Arena. You think they got 4XL jerseys? lol

NAME: Julie BonkSPORT: SoftballYEARS PARTICIPATED: 1995-1998

What does being a DePaul Letterwinner mean to you?Being a DePaul letterwinner makes me extremely proud. I remember watching DePaul basketball games on WGN; cheering on the Blue Demons. When I got the opportunity to represent DePaul, I didn’t think twice.

Why did you choose DePaul?I chose DePaul because of Eug and the program he built. Also, I liked that the campus was in the heart of Lincoln Park. I am a city girl, so it was a perfect choice.

What was your favorite memory while at DePaul? There are so many to remember, but it would probably be Regionals my junior year. We weren’t really expected to win, but we surprised a lot of people that year!

What did receiving a scholarship from DePaul mean to you?It showed that all my hard work really paid off.

What was your funniest memory at DePaul? We laughed a lot together! One of the funniest things was during my senior year. A few of the freshman had difficulty remembering the signs during games. We made a rule that if anyone missed a sign, they had to bring baked goods to practice the following day. I don’t think I ever ate so many brownies and rice krispee treats in my life.

Brief Summary of your life from graduation till now:I have been teaching junior high students for 14 years now. I also have two Master’s Degree in Administration and Reading.

What advice would you give to a current or future student-athlete?Take advantage of every opportunity you are given at DePaul. The people you meet will be the ones you keep in contact with for the rest of your life. Enjoy every moment!
