16. Malevolent spirits can be found only where they have a chance to satisfy their desires. To keep them at bay, it isn’t enough simply to ask them to go away, nor even to order them to go. It is essential that we first eliminate in ourselves whatevr it is in us that is attracting them. Malevolent spirits discover wounds of the soul in the same way that flies detect wounds on the body.

And so, just as you wash your wounds to prevent infestation of maggots, clean your soul of its impurities to avoid malevolent spirits. We live in a world teeming with such spirits, and the qualities in our hearts may not be sufficient against their attempts on us, but whatever good qualities we have will help us to resist their attempts against us.

CONCLUSION OF THE WORKOF ST. MICHAEL

Optionally, the final hymns (see the Ending Hymns section for these) of Padrinho Sebastião (Brilho do Sol), Madrinha Rita (Vivo na Floresta), Padrinho Alfredo (whichever one is currently the latest) and Padrinho Waldete (ditto), but they must be sung before the two closing hymns of the St. Michael work (Pad. Alfredo #99 and Mestre Irineu #30).

AFTER SINGING THE HEALING HYMNS

If it is requested, or if people are deep into a miração, and if time is allotted, a concentration can be done and other hymns can be sung. The leader and the guardians should be sensitive to incorporations and deep healings that need to continue longer.

This is also a good time for voice channeling, for receiving new hymns, and for selectively sharing gifts that have been received in the work.

Keep me safe from pride and presumption. Turn my heart away from jealousy, hatred, wickedness and any feelings opposed to charity and love, since these are all open doors to malevolent spirits.
