Monday 13th July 2020
Blue Area Teachers would like to say how proud they are of all
the children in Year 3 and 4. We have really enjoyed receiving
your Home Learning each week and we know that you have
been working very hard at home. Well done everyone, make
sure you have a rest over the holidays and good luck in your
new classes!
We are missing you greatly in school and
we hope you are having fun learning from
home. Please email in any of your work you
would like us to look at!
Look out for a weekly celebration of
learning on our school website.
Stay safe and all the best from the Blue
Area Team.

Writing and Grammar tasks:
This week’s topic is “Music”. This will be a chance to
show off your writing skills from this term in some final
mini-topics.
Task 1: (Lullabies) Think of some of the best-known
lullabies:
“Twinkle Twinkle”
“Rock a bye baby”
“Frere Jacques”
“Hush little baby”
“Little Bo Peep”
You may have some others that you know of. Either
choose one of these or another that you know and
film yourself performing them. It would be very
interesting if you performed them in an unusual way.
Get creative!
Task 2: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/intro-films-and-orchestral-films/zv2gqp3 Scroll down to the section called “Trailblazers: Heitor Villa-Lobos”. Watch the video clips about the piece of music. Listen to it again. Plan and write a story about a train journey which could be accompanied by the music. It could be a train journey you have been on yourself or an imaginary one, it could be set in Brazil or somewhere completely different. Make it as descriptive as possible.
Task 3: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/intro-films-and-orchestral-films/zv2gqp3 Scroll down to the section on “Mars” from the planet’s suite by Holst and watch the video clips. This piece was written about the planet Mars, which is in turn named after the Roman God of War. Write an explanation paragraph about what makes this music so effective for this subject. How does it make you feel? Why is the pace important?
Task 4: https://www.literacyshed.com/the-music-video-shed.html
Division
Task 1: (Division using number lines). On the task sheet this week below, there is a modelled example for you to look at
showing how you might use a number line to help with division. In the modelled example, the question is 20 ÷ 4. If you
start at 0 and go up in jumps of 4, you will notice that you have to complete 5 equal jumps to get to 20. Therefore, the
answer to 20 ÷ 4 = 5. Use this idea to complete one of the challenge levels of worksheet.
Task 2: (Diving into Division Mastery) Have a look at the PowerPoint which has been attached to your Google Classroom
assignment folder to help you understand the tasks for this assignment and then choose your appropriate challenge level
further down the page.
Task 3: (Short division without remainders) Watch the video clip at
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd/articles/zgxdfcw which goes through how to use the “bus-stop” method
for short division. The video talks about remainders as well but the method is just the same for when you are working on
questions with no remainders. Now have a go using this method in the questions for Task 3 further down this home
learning document.
Task 4: http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks2numeracy-division.html These are a range of interactive division games designed to increase your division speed in mental problems.
GRAMMAR AND SPELLING TASKS (10-15 minutes
each)
NUMBER/MULTIPLICATION STARTER TASKS
(10-15 minutes each) Keep practicing your spellings using the Spelling Frame site the
address is listed below. You can use any of the KS2 practice links
(year 3 and 4)
https://spellingframe.co.uk/spelling-rule/4/Year-3-and-4
Spelling task:
Look at the Year 3/4 spelling list further down the page. Ask
somebody at home to test you on ten of these spellings at
random. If you are finding these tricky, the Year 1/2 words are
also included for you to work on.
Grammar Task:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvwwxnb/articles/z9n73k7
Watch the video on “paragraphs” and then verbally explain to
somebody at home what you have learnt. How much did you
manage to remember?
a) Times tables are a very important part of
Maths and Times Table Rockstars is a really
fun way to practice them. You can even
challenge members of the Blue Area team.
b) Work with your family on being able to tell
the time accurately to the nearest five
minutes and be able to calculate time
intervals in and hours & minutes. Extra
challenge: Can you tell the time to the
nearest minute? Can you convert the time
between the 12 and 24-hour clock?
c) Help your parents check that the you were
charged the correct amount on your
shopping list. With your parent’s permission,
go through the receipt from your recent
shop. Did they get the right change?
It often works best
when you are sat
at a table with both
feet firmly planted
on the ground.
Scroll down to the music video called “So Good To Me” and watch the music video. Once you have watched it, choose one of the following tasks to complete.
Write a set of instructions for keeping a giraffe as a pet.
If you could choose any animal in the world to keep as a pet, what would it be and why? What would you do with them? How would you need to change your house to take care of it?
CLIC Focus- Writing numbers as words
Write the following numbers in words:
- 303
- 4,367
- 2,309
- 10,345
- 13,460
- 123,456
What do you notice about the position of the
comma in these numbers? How might that
help us read them aloud and write them down?
PICK AND MIX – FOUNDATION SUBJECT TASKS
PE
Complete some of the tasks on the school website under “other useful links”
with the title CSET weekly challenges.

Click on this link and scroll down to “Trailblazers: Delia Derbyshire”. Watch the video
clips about the creation of the Dr Who theme song.
Either using the Dr Who theme or a theme from your favourite TV show. Use objects
from around the house to create your own version of your chosen theme. Record
your efforts to see if your classmates can guess the theme on Google Classroom.
(You may want to draft in other members of the household to make an orchestra!)
Science: Music is intrinsically linked with sound but how do we hear sounds?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zgffr82 Look at the video clips and tasks in the four sections on this page to find out more.
Geography:

Spelling Lists
Writing Task 2
Faster and faster and faster. Clickity-clack, clickity-clack, clickity-clack. The exhilaration rushed through me like electricity as I was
drawn inexorably onwards to my destination. I nestled further into my chair and gazed out of the window at the blur of greens
and browns rushing past. The scenery in the far distance seemed to stand still but everything close to me passed by quicker than
thoughts.
I had been looking forward to this journey all year. The middle of July always meant one thing - an end to textbooks and Maths
tests and a friendly reunion with sandcastles and ice creams! In my mind’s eye I pictured the sea stretching to the horizon and hot,
sunny days that never seemed to end. I could almost hear the screech of seagulls already and my arm instinctively moved into a
position to shield the salty chips which I did not yet have.
It was made all the more exciting by the way we were getting there. No sitting in our own personal ovens on the boring
motorway; we were travelling in style! The steam from the engine tickled the window panes as it shot by, adding to the feeling of
being in a dream. I felt a bit like Harry Potter travelling to Hogwarts as there was definitely a sense of magic in the air.
As we pulled into the next station, I squeezed my sister’s hand and smiled. She could feel the excitement too. I knew that at this
point, just like every year, there was one phrase which would escape her mouth. 3-2-1 “Are we there yet?”
