SCHOOL COUNCIL

ELECTIONS At the close of nominations I

received a total of four (4)

nominations, three being for the two

year positions and one being for the

one-year vacancy, for the parent

category vacancies and two (2)

nominations for the two year

DEECD employee vacancies.

As the number of

nominations for

both categories

equals the

number of

nominations in

each category, as

Returning Officer, I declare all

nominated candidates duly elected.

The successful candidates are:

Parent Category: Carolyn Mehr,

Craig Benedick, Michele

Sargeant and Lesley Lees (12

month vacancy)

DEECD Employee Category: Lynne

Brenner, Lois Smethurst

Our new school council will take

office after our AGM at our 28th

March meeting in the staffroom.

TAKING DAYS OFF FOR

STUDENT BIRTHDAYS We have noticed a

pattern emerging – one

of children having a day

off on their birthdays. I

can understand that we

all want to make it a

special day for our kids,

but attending school as

often as possible is required by law.

You may say, what’s one day? It is

only a day, but these days do add up

and, like all such things, they create

precedents, some of which are not

really that good.

LATE COMERS TO

SCHOOL We have noticed that an increasing

number of children are being

dropped off at school by their

parents after 9:00am. Further more,

a number of children are not being

taken to the classrooms by their

parents. In several cases these

children have been found wandering

around the school, not having gone

directly to their classrooms.

Please ensure that you take

your child to the office first, if

you are bringing them to school

after 9:00am.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS (FAQ’s)

Q. What sort of car park will we

have for parents when our BER

building is finished?

A. It will be a little smaller than

the previous gravel car park

and some teachers will be

using it to park their cars – in

particular those who will be

teaching in the new building. I

am still negotiating with the

builders as

to the

specifications

of the car

park area,

but I

wouldn’t be

counting on it providing a lot

of parking space for parents.

NATIONAL RIDE 2 SCHOOL

DAY – WEDNESDAY 16TH

MARCH

Congratulations to all the students

who walked or wheeled to school

on National Ride to School Day

(yesterday). We had nearly 60

children bring their bikes and

scooters to

school for

engraving. We

would love to

see our

students keep

up the walking

and wheeling

throughout the year as we

believe the benefits greatly assist in

the student’s personal and

academic development. Thanks to

Leading Senior Constable Dave

Smith for his efforts in engraving

the bikes and scooters.

HEATING OF STUDENT

LUNCHES

Over the past few weeks our office

staff have received requests from

children wanting their lunches

heated. Unfortunately we are not

able to offer this service for a

number of reasons. Firstly there is

the food safety aspect related to

the reheating of foods that have

been in school bags for the

morning. Also our administrative

staff are required in the office area

and are unable to leave their

positions to spend time in the

staffroom heating food. We

appreciate the support of parents in

this matter and are sure that you

will understand the reasons behind

this decision.

Students wanting a hot lunch can

purchase a range of items from the

canteen which operates on

weekdays with the exception of

Tuesdays.

WHAT IS CONFIDENCE

Types of Thinking That Build Confidence

Accept Myself - means not thinking badly

about yourself when you make a mistake or

are not successful as you want to be, or when

someone is critical of you.

Taking Risks - means thinking that it’s good

to try something new, even though you might

make mistakes or you might not be the best at doing it.

Being Independent - means thinking that it’s important for you to

try new activities and to speak up even if other people think you are

silly or stupid.

I Can Do It - means thinking that even when your work is hard, your

are more likely to be successful than to fail.

CAMP QUALITY PUPPETS

On Wednesday 16th March 2011, the Grade 1’s and 2’s went to the gym to watch the Camp Quality puppets.

Steph and Chris introduced us to a puppet called Kylie. She has a type

of cancer called leukaemia. To treat her cancer, she had

chemotherapy. This made her hair, eyebrows and eye lashes fall out.

Deano was her friend who first made her sad by teasing her. But then

Deano realised that IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE ON THE

OUTSIDE, BUT ONLY WHAT’S ON THE INSIDE.
