To select correct blowdown vessel size, the following information is required:

OBoiler Pressure.

OBlowdown line size.

OLength of blowdown line between boiler and blowdown vessel, i.e. the equivalent straight length taking account of bends and valves in the line.

Depending on the length of your blowdown line, select one of the charts below then select the boiler pressure on the vertical axis and move across to intersect the blowdown size, the vessel size is then taken as the area containing the intersection.

Examples

For a boiler of 170 PSIG with a 32NB blowdown line and an equivalent straight pipe length greater than 7m a Type 4 is required.

If the blowdown line is less than 7m a Type 5 would be required.

The above tables are based on a maximum Blowdown duration of 20 seconds. A typical main Boiler Blowdown duration would be 5 seconds.
