My dear parishioners, I must apologize that the rosary pamphlets were not available last weekend. We had ordered them, but for some unknown reason the company had put a hold on them. They were shipped this week and will be handed out by the ushers. I am sorry for the inconvenience, I guess the evil one did not want you to get them. One of my other favorite Marian devotions is the Miraculous Medal novena, which we currently pray on Saturdays after the 8:30 am Mass and will be moved to Mondays come January. The Miraculous Medal novena comes to us from St. Catherine Labouré who had a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the night of July 18-19, 1830. She was a novice in the community of the Daughters of Charity in Paris when she was awakened by what ap-peared to be a child, possibly an angel. She went to the chapel where she met and conversed with the Virgin Mary for several hours. Mary had told St. Catherine “My child, I am going to give you a mission.” The second apparition took place on November 27, 1830 when St. Catherine saw the Virgin Mary standing on what appears to be a half globe. Streams of light were seen coming from the fingers of Mary which are rays of grace. The third apparition the Virgin Mary gave St. Cathe-rine the image for which the Miraculous Medal would be struck. The front side of the medal shows “Mary is stand-ing upon a globe, crushing the head of a serpent beneath her foot. She stands upon the globe, as the Queen of Heav-en and Earth. Her feet crush the serpent to proclaim Satan and all his followers are helpless before her (GN 3:15). The year 1830 on the Miraculous Medal is the year the Blessed Mother gave the design of the Miraculous Medal to St. Catherine Labouré. The reference to Mary conceived with-out sin supports the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary – not to be confused with the virgin birth of Jesus, and referring to Mary’s sinlessness, “full of grace” and “blessed among women” (Luke 1:28) – that was proclaimed 24 years later in 1854. The back side of the medal has “twelve stars that refer to the Apostles, who represent the entire Church as it surrounds Mary. They also recall the vision of St. John, writer of the Book of Revelation (12:1), in which ‘a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of 12 stars.’ The cross can symbolize Christ and our redemp-tion, with the bar under the cross a sign of the earth. The ‘M’ stands for Mary, and the interleaving of her initial and the cross shows Mary’s close involvement with Jesus and our world. In this, we see Mary’s part in our salvation and her role as mother of the Church. The two hearts represent the love of Jesus and Mary for us.” More next week. God bless,

Siento mucho el inconveniente, pienso que el enemigo no quería que ustedes los obtuvieran. Una de mis otras devociones Marianas favoritas es la novena de la Medalla Milagrosa, la cual nosotros rezamos los sábados después de la Misa de 8:30 am y se cambiará para los lunes en enero. La novena de la Medalla Milagrosa viene a nosotros de Santa Catalina Labouré quien tuvo una visión de la Santísima Virgen María en la noche del 18-19 de julio de 1830. Ella era una novicia en la comunidad de Las Hijas de la Caridad en París cuando la despertó lo que parecía ser como un niño, posiblemente un ángel. Ella fue a la capilla donde se reunió y conversó con la Virgen María por varias horas. Ma-ría le dijo a Santa Catalina “Mi niña, te voy a dar una mi-sión.” La segunda aparición sucedió el 27 de noviembre de 1830 cuando Santa Catalina vio a la Virgen María parada en lo que parecía ser medio globo. Rayos de luz se vieron salien-do de los dedos de María los que eran rayos de gracia. Choirs at St. Mary's Looking for New Members! Do you or your loved ones enjoy singing? Of course you do! Please consider joining the St. Mary's Adult Choir! We sing once a month on the 4th Sunday of the month at the 10 am Mass and we rehearse at 9:00 am right before the Mass. St. Mary's also offers an incredible chance for children to join a choir with the St. Mary's Children's Choir! The Children's Choir meets once a week on Wednesdays from 5-6 pm to practice our songs. We perform once a month at the 10 am Mass on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Both of these choirs are growing in musical abilities, and we would love to have YOU join us! Nite at the Races Blessed Virgin Mary Help of Christians’ Holy Name Socie-ty is inviting you to a “Nite of the Races” on Saturday, November 16th, starting at 6 pm in the Parish Room.

Invitation to see a movie! For one day only in theaters, the movie Love and Mercy: Faustina will be playing. On Monday, October 28, it will be in select theaters. The one closest to our parish is Regal at Atlas Mall in Glendale at 7 pm only. I invite parishion-ers to join me at the theater that night. The film “dramatizes key moments in St. Faustina’s life and the difficulties and triumphs that accompanied the spread of the (Divine Mercy) message following her death in 1938.”

Irenaeus was the First to Call Mary “the New Eve” Bishop Irenaeus of Lyons was one of the earliest to honor Mary. To help young Christian communities, he compiled a catalog of current heresies in five lengthy books titled Against the Heresies. Irenaeus approached the Christian faith by way of “recapitulation,” declaring that everything Adam and Eve lost, the New Adam, Jesus, and the New Eve, Mary, restored through their obedience to the Father. Ireneo fue el Primero en Llamar a María “la Nueva Eva” Obispo Ireneo de Lyons fue uno de los primeros en honrar a María.
