Blessed Lord, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for You.
Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service without asking why and to what
purpose. Even as this candle, I wish to stand in Your presence and to be consumed in the light and warmth of our Love. Please hear my prayer
and, if it is Your will, grant my petition. But above all, make me loyal and faithful to You in
all circumstances of my life. Amen.

OUR JOURNEY FOR DIVINE MERCY: I left off in last weeks article on our Journey for Divine Mercy with a few questions to be addressed. The first question was, what is Divine Mercy Sunday all about? Divine Mercy Sunday came about through a vision from our Lord Jesus to Saint Faustina in 1931. St. Faustina was born Helen Kowalska on August 25, 1925 at Lodz, Poland. She was the third of ten children. When she was twenty years old, she entered the convent of the Sisters of our Lady of Mercy. The following year 1926, she received her religious habit and was given the name Sister Marie Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament. On February 22, 1931, her sixth year in the convent, our Lord appeared to her with a message of Mercy for all people and that she was to spread that message through-out the world. In 1934, with the guidance of her spiritu-al director, Father Michael Sopocko, she started keeping a diary in which she recorded the Divine Revelations and her mystical experiences of our Lord, together with her own thoughts, insights and prayers. The result is a book of some 600 pages that in simple language, repeats and clarifies the gospel of God’s love for His people, emphasizing above all, the need to trust in His loving action in all aspects of our lives. On October 5, 1938 Sister Faustina died of tuberculosis. She was 33 years old. Her devotion to the “Divine Mer-cy” is still being carried out today on Divine Mercy Sunday, the first Sunday after Easter in churches like ours throughout the world. Sister Faustina was beatified by Saint John Paul II on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 18, 1993. Saint John Paul II later canonized Sister Faustina to sainthood on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 30, 2000. Next week we’ll look at the question of “Why do we as Catholics celebrate Di-vine Mercy Sunday?” Until then,
To God be the glory, Deacon Dan Jesus, I trust in You!
Together we welcome:

We will be distributing 500 Boxes of food A bag of fresh mixed fruit ~ a half gallon of milk
Blessed Trinity Parish in partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will be holding a food box distribution.
**** DRIVE UP FOOD DISTRIBUTION FOR THOSE IN NEED ****
GREAT NEWS!! As you may have heard by now, we will not be holding our two annual par-ish fish fry’s due to various concerns
related to the pandemic. Instead, we are holding a Drive-Up Food Distribution for anyone in need of food. In addi-tion to the decent size box of food that is provided by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food bank, our parish will be providing a half gallon of whole milk, a small bag of mixed fresh fruit and a one pound package of frozen ground beef. Although we are not able to fill our stomachs with the great fish sandwiches and sides from our fish fry’s, we will be helping to provide food for the needy and hun-gry in our area. All of this is made possible because of your love and support to our parish, even during the pan-demic. I continue to be inspired by the ways in which our parish family works together to see the needs of others with the eyes of Jesus, hear the cry’s of the needy with the ears of Jesus and help one another and the needy of our community with the hands of Jesus because in doing so, you help others to experience the warm and loving Heart of Jesus. Thank You! We are also going to hold another parish raffle during Lent. So many parishioners inquired about doing some-thing else during Lent to feel connected. Because the last raffle was a success, it was decided that this raffle would be a great opportunity to work together during the pan-demic, safely from where we are, to provide more minis-try to the community and our fellow parishioners. Fifty percent of the total proceeds from our Lenten Raffle will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. That means every ticket bought or sold, 50% will be donated to help feed others. What a wonderful way to share with others, the Blessings we receive from the Lord! Thank You for helping to make that happen! PLEASE KNOW, that I am fully aware that given the current pandemic circumstances, not everyone may have the means to purchase tickets or sell them and that is total-
ly fine. Simply destroy the tickets and offer prayers for those in need. Time for baptisms and confirmations. Some of you may be asked OR plan on asking someone to stand as a Confirmation sponsor or Godparent for a baptism. Please understand that there are certain require-ments that MUST be met in order to do so. Basically, the one being asked to be a sponsor or Godparent MUST themselves be a REGISTERED, ACTIVE and PAR-TICIPATING Catholic in good standing in the parish. As a pastor, I cannot and will not state an untruth by stating in a letter that someone is a “practicing and active Catho-lic in good standing” if they are not. The following are guidelines that MUST be met in order to receive a spon-sorship letter from Blessed Trinity Parish. You MUST be REGISTERED in our parish for at least six months prior to receiving the letter and you MUST meet the following requirements: You must have all of your sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, First Holy Communion), if you are married it must be a valid Catholic marriage, you should be attending Mass on a regular basis, and support-ing the parish in some way through your time, talents and treasure. You cannot simply join the parish the day you are requesting the letter so prepare ahead of time by checking your status. I am always willing to work with individuals to help them meet the requirements but it can-not happen one day, one week or one month before the baptism or confirmation. If you have questions or need help with this, please call the parish office to speak with me or Deacon Dan Nizan our Pastoral Associate and we will help you.

DEACON MIKE’S CORNER
Gilmary Council #3868
Grand Knight Andrew Warble 412-417-8419
I know it is Valentine’s day. Please enjoy this day, but I think I will pass on that for this Dea-con’s Corner. When I read the Gospel today, I see that Jesus answered the prayer of a leper and healed him. What stuck out for me was
that scripture says he reached out and touched him and healed him “immediately”. I have seen God’s response to prayer come in a wide variety of ways over varying lengths of time. But things like ‘Google’ and modern technology have spoiled us when it comes to our expectations of God’s answer to our prayers. When you ask a question on the web, right or wrong, we get multiple answers immedi-ately. God works in quite different ways and we do not always understand His ways. When God does not an-swer our pray “immediately” many grow impatient, give up, and often quit praying. Remember, God does not work on our timescale. When it is a prayer for healing God may use illness or suffering for a purpose we do not understand. On other occasions, God may intervene directly, or God may work through others, especially health care profession-als. When we make a request of God, we are most likely praying for something we cannot change or fix. So, we need to pass control of the issue to him, and trust him for the resolution, even if we do not fully understand. God answers our prayers, not just for our own spiritual growth, but for the good of all that are involved. Scrip-ture teaches us that we need to keep on asking, keep on knocking with faith. Our persistence provides spiritual growth for each of us. God will answer. Deacon Mike “In Christ: We Are One, We Are Sent”

PRE-CANA MARRIAGE PREPARATION CLASS Pre-Cana marriage preparation class will be held at Blessed Trinity Parish in the Faith Formation Building, on Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Contact Mike Babcock at 412-884-7744 to register.
The beginning of Lent This week we begin the season of Lent and although the ritual and distribution of ashes will be differ-ent for this Ash Wednesday, the message of the season is the same. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Many of us have had plenty of time for prayer. Praying for those who are suffering, those who are in need, and for ourselves and our families for health and safety. Many in our area are Fasting (hungry), we’ve seen decreases in hours, in-creased unemployment and a drop in income of many in our own parish. Some are faced with difficult deci-sions of shelter or food. Through the generosity of many of you, our parish has been able to help those in our parish and the community who, through no fault of their own, find themselves “fasting” (hungry). The final part of Lenten journey is almsgiving. Many of us see almsgiving as monetary donations and while that is one part of almsgiving that’s not all. Almsgiving is not just treasures, it’s time and talents as well. Many of us don’t have the disposable income we once had, but we still have time and talent to share with others. Volunteering at a food bank, Meals on Wheels, or other parish or community organizations is a way that we can give alms. Even if you are unable to leave your house there are ways to reach out to someone and offer support, prayers and just brighten someone’s day, not just during Lent but every day. This Lent will look different but the message is the same — by prayer, fasting and almsgiv-ing we prepare for the Death and Resurrection of Jesus which shows us the way to eternal life. Take this Lent to start the journey, but not just during Lent, but each and every day. Have a blessed, safe and healthy Lent.
