A letter from the Pastor My dear People at Blessed Seelos Parish:

As we get closer and closer to the end of the liturgical year, the themes of each Gospel become more urgent. The 25th chapter of the Gospel of Mathew, from where we read today, is the chapter that begins to tell us about the final judgement at the end of times and how God will deal with each one of us. But to get us prepared for that part of the chapter, Jesus begins by telling us about the need to be prepared. That is the purpose of the parable today of the ten virgins and how they were found either prepared or unprepared for the coming of the groom. How are we getting ready for our encounter with God? We should ask this question daily since “we know not the time or the hour.” We should live every day as if this was our last day on earth, and if that would be the case, what a great consolation to know that there is not much we have to do in order to prepare, but that we are already packed and ready to go! Al acercarnos cada vez más al fin del año litúrgico, los temas del evangelio son cada vez más urgentes. El capítulo 25 de San Mateo, del cual leemos hoy, es el capítulo que comienza a contarnos del fin del mundo y de como Dios nos va a juzgar al final de los tiempos. Pero para prepararnos para esa parte del capítulo 25, Jesús comienza hablándonos de la necesidad de estar preparados. Ese es el propósito de la parábola de las diez vírgenes y de cómo fueron encontradas preparadas o sin preparación para la llegada del novio. ¿Cómo nos estamos preparando para nuestro encuentro con Dios? Nos debiéramos hacer esta pregunta diariamente ya que “no sabemos el día ni la hora.” Debiéramos vivir cada día como si fuera el ultimo día que tenemos en la tierra, y si fuera así, ¡que gran consuelo saber que no tenemos mucho que hacer para prepararnos ya que estamos empacados y listos para salir!
