A letter from the Pastor My dear People at Blessed Seelos Parish: I have heard that there are two kinds of people in the world: Those who think that there are two kinds of people in the world, and those who don’t! That of course is a joke. It begs the question that there is only one kind of person that exists in the world. Seriously now, I do believe that having such categories can be helpful for us to consider where we fit in the world. I know that my favorite singer says that there are two kinds of people in the world: Those who bring peace to others, and those who take it away. Helpful category to think where do we fit. In the Gospel today Jesus may be hinting at that kind of categorization of people. He is telling us that there are two kinds of people in the world: Those who came to serve, and those who came to be served. Of course, we want to be among the first ones. As Christians, we are always called to serve and not to think we have come to be served. The Lord, who deserves the service of all of us, did exactly the opposite by serving us all the way to his death on the cross. Let us commit ourselves not to ask how we can be greater or the greatest, but to realize that the greatest among us is the one who serves!

He escuchado que hay dos clases de personas en el mundo: ¡Los que piensan que hay dos clases de personas en el mundo, y los que no! Por supuesto estoy bromeando. Esa oración nos dice que solo hay una clase de persona en el mundo. En serio ahora, yo sí creo que esas categorías nos pueden ayudar a considerar en que categoría nos encontramos nosotros personalmente. Mi cantante favorito de todos los tiempos dice que él piensa que hay dos tipos de personas en el mundo: Los que dan paz, y los que la quitan. Siempre he pensado que esa categorización nos puede ayudar a pensar qué clase de personas somos. En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos está presentando dos tipos de personas: Los que han venido a ser servidos, y los que han venido a servir. Obviamente queremos estar en esta última categoría. Como cristianos, siempre estamos llamados a servir y no pensar que nos tienen que servir los demás. El Señor Jesús, que merece el servicio de todos, hizo exactamente lo opuesto al servirnos a todos hasta su muerte en la cruz. Comprometámonos a no preguntar cómo podemos ser el más grande, pero darnos cuenta que el más grande entre nosotros es el que sirve a los demás. Fr. José Ignacio
