WELCOME BACK!! 

The 2018/2019 school year starts on August 27. The Principals’ Office is excited for the new school year. The team consists of David Wright, Principal; Gwen Mosteller, Assistant Principal; Andi Wallach, Assistant Principal; and Dwain Messersmith, Assistant Principal. Please stop by Back‐to‐School Night on Thursday, September 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Auditorium to meet them. 

We are pleased to add two new positions to the faculty this year. Elizabeth Maurer is joining us as our Social Worker and Stephen Miller has joined us as our new Technology Education Teacher. 

Also new this school year is Psychology, Sociology, Code‐ Based Marketing, Blueprint Reading, and Green Engineering.  

The Cafeteria has added a few new menu items as well – Hamburger Sliders, Chicken Sliders, and Flatbread Pizza. 

Lastly, DCTS is in the final stages of installing a new LED sign at the east entrance. This sign will feature important dates and announcements throughout the year.

Tyler Kauffman and Letrele Roberts are the 2018/2019 Joint Operating Committee Student Representatives. Polina Rosas is the 2018/2019 Joint Operating Committee Alternate Student Representative. They attend the monthly JOC meetings and serve as a communication link between the students, school and the JOC. 

Tyler is a senior in Criminal Justice/Police Science. He participates in Robotics and Science Olympiad. Tyler is the State President for SkillsUSA for 

2018/2019. He is also a student trustee for the DCTS Education Foundation. 

Letrele is a senior in Building Construction Technology. He participates in Archery, Student Mentor Program, BC Cares, and Four Diamonds mini‐thon.  

Polina is a senior in Horticulutre. She is a member of SkillsUSA, National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society.  

  

 

 

JOC Student Representatives  

The DCTS Education Foundation would like to invite you to visit New York City on Friday, November 23, 2018. “A Day On Your Own” offers round trip transportation to NYC, beverages & snacks, games & prizes, T‐Shirt and driver gratuity.  

Departing DCTS at 7:00 am and cost is $65 per person.

2018/2019 Reassignments

DCTS Student Organizations and Activities SkillsUSA – SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 320,000 high school and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations. 

DECA – With nearly a 70‐year history, DECA has impacted the lives of more than ten million students, educators, school administrator and business professionals since it was founded in 1946. Their strong connection with the organization has resonated into a brand that people identify as a remarkable experience in the preparation of emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. 

HOSA – HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of ACTE. 

FFA – FFA is an intercurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. 

FIRST – The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor‐based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well‐rounded life capabilities including self‐confidence, communication, and leadership. 

Theatre – Students with an interest in theatre production, both behind the scenes and on stage, are welcome to participate in our after school program. 

Yearbook – DCTS’s yearbook is the Wolverine Log. Students in grades 10, 11, &12 interested in becoming part of the yearbook staff should schedule Publishing #1104. 

National Honor Society – The NHS is a nationwide organization in the United States which may consist of many chapters in high schools. Selection may be based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. 

National Technical Honor Society – The NTHS is an honor society for outstanding career and technical students of workforce vocational education institutions in the United States. NTHS began in 1984 as the National Vocational Technical Honor Society at H.B. Swofford Career Center, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

On June 19, Dr. Grimm, Administrative Director, and Samantha Schultz, Instructional Literacy Coach, were invited to participate at a roundtable discussion in Washington D.C. hosted by Senator Bob Casey. The discussion was about how our school utilizes Perkins funding to enhance Career and Technical Education. Dr. Grimm and Mrs. Schultz were able to attend this discussion to explain how DCTS benefits from these funds.  This gave them the chance to brag about our school.  You bet they told Senator Casey all about DCTS! The Perkins bill, known as “Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century,” was presented and signed into law on July 31, 2018. 

The DCTS Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization, provides supplemental funding and support for DCTS’s initiatives and innovations to benefit the students.  

The goals of the Foundation are to support educational opportunities and/or professional development for DCTS Professional staff through mini‐grants; support post‐secondary opportunities to DCTS students through scholarships; support DCTS infrastructure improvements; and support educational opportunities for students who attend DCTS.

ESS (Education Staffing Solution) will be holding a hiring event at DCTS on Tuesday, September 11 from 3:30 p.m. ‐ 5:30 p.m. 

 

DCTS ALUMNI  

DCTS is seeking alumni. Please register on the Alumni Page on the DCTS website, www.dcts.org. Click on “Community”, then “Alumni”. This webpage is the start of creating an Official DCTS Alumni Chapter and Class Reunions. 

 

ADULT & CONTINUING EDUCATION 

This fall, the Adult and Continuing Education program at DCTech will be offering a new course in Logistics and Warehouse Management. It begins on September 25 and ends on November 15.  The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The cost is $540 for the 60 hour training course. Three courses of interest to those who want to take care of small home improvements will be held this fall:  Fundamentals of Carpentry, Electrical Fundamentals, and Plumbing. Please go on line to our webpage – Adult Education/Evening Programs for more information or call 717‐652‐3170 x 7445.
