Current pressures and on-going• Under funded practices due to Carr-hill Formula• Disproportionate weighted list size• Expansion of the town, new developments• Essex County Council only consider health resources

with new planning applications • Increase in number of nursing and residential homes,

with patients being accepted with inappropriate conditions staff cannot cope with

All of which has

• Increased complaints for the practice• Staff being under extreme pressure, increasing staff

sickness and patients being put at additional risk • Patients seeking care with A&E, OOH or “walk-in

centres” increasing the pressure for these divisions inappropriately

• Patients, media and social media coverage only leads to sensationalising stories

• No support from NHS England

Actions taken by practice to support patients and staff

• NHS England rejected our application to close our patient list

• Practice and Patients being put at risk due to non closure

• No support from NHS England with the situation we face

• Practice recruitment programme for GPs from Sept 2011 – Jan 2013, 25 applications, 13 candidates interviewed unsuccessful

• Use of long term locums during recruitment period

• New full-time Dr recruited from January 2013, May 2013 and May 2014 (x3)

• Increased reception staffing to provide greater access

• Increased phone lines into practice with better supporting software providing options for the patient

• Participated in Primary Care Foundation Independent Review of Access to practice:– average consultations for our patient population

6.67 per registered patient per year, against national consultation rates of 5.41 per registered patient for our demographic population.

• Why is there no support from NHS England with providing patients with information from a National level about the pressures practices are under?

• Practices are accused of not referring patients to the local Community Hospital as they get a financial incentive for referring to Springfield?
