DEBUT!

Charlotte Blake Alston Theater/Storytelling/Family MatineeJanuary 25, 2014 at 1:00 ▪ Mainstage theater tickets: $14, General admission

What Michelangelo did to ceilings, Charlotte Blake Alston does to stories with music. Whether it’s a story with a thumb piano, djembe or 21-string kora, Charlotte Blake Alston’s most powerful instrument is her melodic and mesmerizing voice. She breathes life into ancient and contemporary tales, engaging the imagination while tapping into life lessons gained from centuries of human experience. As she draws on the rich source of stories, songs, games and rhythmic elements that are hallmarks of the African and African American oral traditions, this is an event the whole family cannot miss.

Following the 1:00 show, the puppeteers will demonstrate how the mari-onettes work.Cashore Marionettes is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by The Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency; and The Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.

Audience members interact and play with the characters on stage; they give the chicks their feed, milk bottles to the lamb and are licked by the cow. A beautiful intro-duction to theater, Hatched will charm and engage babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

DEBUT!

Dalí Quartet: Latin Fiesta! Family Matinee/Chamber/WorldMay 3 at 1:00 ▪ Mainstage theater tickets: $14, General admission

Hello, Dalí! The Dalí Quartet is today’s freshest voice in Classical and Latin-American music. Their popular Latin Fiesta Family Concert features an interactive program that takes the whole family on a journey of different rhythms and melodies including Argentine Tangos, Cuban Boleros, Caribbean Rumbas, and Ven-ezuelan Joropos that ensures dancing in the aisles. Audiences learn various rhythmic patterns, dance steps and the origin of many of these genres and how they relate to and influence Western classical music. Dali’s inspiring and fun presentations make chamber music accessible and fun for the whole family.
