What dose a Black Racer look like?
They are smooth scaled. Their chin, jaw and throat
are white or gray. The belly is generally
dark(gray, blue, or black)silky or stained-like
appetence. They're sometimes gray with large brown, black and reddish blotches down its back small spots along the side with large black
eyes .
What is a Black Racer’s habitat?
Black Racer are common snakes that utilize a variety of habitats including rock ledges, pastures, over grown fields ,dry or moist woodlands and the edges of wetlands.
How do they reproduce?Racers mate in spring ,and females deposit ten to twelve eggs in small mamma burrows , under rock, mulch piles or rotting logs. Eggs laid in June or July normally hatched in August and September
How do they get their prey and what is it? Small mammals, other snakes and insects are preferred food items. They will even feed on young of their own species.
How dose it protect its self? Racers are very fast and typically flee from danger. They put up a big fight, biting hard and often. Rattling their tails among dry leaves ,racers can sound like rattlesnakes. If captured they are difficult to handle and spray musk in an attempt to escape.
