A Topic Not So Black & White
The insTanT black and whiTe phoTography is mentioned, images spring to mind of the late Henri Cartier-Bresson and Ansel Adams. Both are, without doubt, two of the most proficient and highly skilled photographers to have ever existed.
Adams and Cartier-Bresson had distinct and unique styles that are equally powerful to the viewer. They practiced the pure essence of photography, without the addition of colour as a tool. The strength of such lies in capturing eye opening locations and intriguing situations which when looked after carefully with deep blacks and bright whites emit a force to be reckoned with straight into the gaping pupils of the admirer.
I could hope for nothing more than to capture one photo in my life time that comes close to their level of knowledge and aptitude. If I managed that I could theoretically lay down my camera and walk away, however, the bond between camera and photographer is a bond not so easily broken. The hunt for a photograph is never easing, never ending and alters the mind’s eye for the rest of your life.
