Welcome aboard!Thank you for registering on the BITSAA International’s brand new BITSAA.org portal!

You can now interact with thousands of fellow BITSians from around the world, discover old friends, help current ones on-campuses and fuel the dream of building one of the strongest alumni network on earth today.

Registering on the BITSAA portal gives you access to the global Community Directory. In the following guided tour, we attempt to introduce you on steps to use this mass feature effectively to find fellow BITSians and subsequently interact with them through the portal infrastructure.

Not to mention, at any time, if you face a difficulty, you can get back to the BITSAA Technology Team. We are just an email away!

Locating the Community Directory1

Description

You can access the community directory by locating the ‘Directory’ icon on the main menu from any page on the website.

You can choose to view the member types in the directory from the submenu displayed – Alumni, Student, Faculty and so on. The Search feature lets you search members from the community directory.

Problems

Do you get the Member Login page upon clicking the menu for Directory?

You are not logged in to the BITSAA portal. Please login since access to member directory is provided only for registered members.

Directory > Alumni/Student2

Description

1. The list of all alumni or students in the member directory is displayed here.

2. The criteria for these results can be verified here. Lists are usually based on the standard criterion of member type depending upon what you have requested.

3. You can start a new search from here or check which members are logged in currently to the portal.

4. To send a message to a member’s message inbox on the portal, click on ‘Message Member’. Use the ‘Add Connection’ icon to send a connection invite.

Directory > Alumni/Student - Message Member3

Description

Use the Messaging Center to send a message to another member’s inbox. The member will be notified of a waiting message in his/her inbox over email, if he/she has chosen to be notified.

1. You can even send an attachment with your message to another member.

2. Use the rich text editor to compose the message and then send it using the ‘Send Now’ button below.

You can later see all messages sent by you in your messaging centre mailbox.

Directory > Search (Basic Search)4

Description

1. Enter the search keywords here, for eg: to search for a member name Vishrut, enter ‘vishrut’ here.

2. Its always advisable to refine your search. You may choose to enter any other detail known to you for a member like his/her groups. Groups includes batch of entry into BITS, initiatives, BITSAA chapters and BITSAA teams etc.

3. You can refine your search location or city wise.

4. You may choose to search for members in a particular country only.

Description

1. Advanced Search is a two step process and should be used to get highly accurate results when considerable information related to the member is already known to you.

2. Select the status of members to include in the search domain. Status tells if a member is registered, approved, suspended etc or not.

3. Select the type of members you wish to include in your search – alumni, students, faculty etc.

Click on ‘Continue’ to proceed.

Description

1. Apart form specifying the first and last name, you can specify the member’s employer, his/her groups etc. Here, the member is known to be of BITSAA’s Technology group.

2. You can specify the city/town, location and country.

3. If you provide a profession, it will be matched against the community members while searching.

4. You can as well specify the BITS campus he/she passed out from, the BITS degree he/she holds and the Discipline of study at BITS.

Click on ‘Continue’ thereafter.

Description

1. The list of all search results is displayed here.

2. The criteria for these results can be verified here. This should match the ones you provided during setting up your advanced search.

3. You can start a new search from here or check which members are logged in currently to the portal.

4. To preview a member’s brief profile & professional information, just point your mouse to his/her name. This helps in verifying if a result is useful to you or not.
