I love you with the love of the Lord. Dwight

Bits & Pieces … Odds & Ends … This & That …

I have several things I want to “talk about” today. So here we go.

The NACC in Orlando was one of the best conventions in years. The theme was REFRESHED. Those who planned the conference did an exceptional job in providing the opportunity for those who attended to leave REFRESHED. It is no secret this has been a challenging year, maybe one of the most challenging Jo & I have faced in almost 36 years of ministry. This week of worship and networking and quiet time and study and family time and fellowship with friends was really something we both needed. Again, we really appreciate the elders and you, our church family, loving us enough that you make these opportunities available.

It’s a little thing … but you know one of the things I enjoy most about the worship services when we are away … worshiping side by side with Jo. I enjoy hearing her sing. It’s nice to sit together when someone is teaching and agree with the challenge. Sometimes it’s really nice to worship free from distractions of responsibility.

Of course as nice as it is to be gone for something special like the NACC, it is always nice to come back home. It’s also nice to be missed. We feel so blessed to be able to be back home and doing ministry with people we love. Many of you had kind things to say upon our return. You never know how much a few words of encouragement mean. Thanks again for loving us.

It’s kinda hard to believe that in just a few weeks school will be back in session. Where did the summer go? With the start of school just around the corner, that means some additional Wednesday class choices. We will share more details in the next Messenger.

Looking ahead … going to bring the messages you requested to a close in August. Here is what is planned …

August 05 – Help in controlling my temper August 12 – Practice tolerance August 19 – Should the Bible be our only source of authority? August 26 – In the beginning, God created … really?

The special evening of prayer was just that … special. The response was such that we will definitely be setting aside another night just for prayer in the near future.

In closing, just want to say thanks for the many kind comments concerning the last couple of messages. Neither were easy to prepare, but your attentiveness helped in the delivery. If you are in town, I hope to see you in one of the worship services this Sunday. Invite someone to worship with you. Lord willing, I hope to see you on the Lord’s Day. I love you with the love of the Lord. Dwight

Pulse meets Sundays @ 11 for SS. Ekklesia will resume August 8th!.

TCTC Sign UpsBelieve it or not, but we will begin our sign ups for the Tennessee Christian Teen Convention during the month of August. The cost is $100 and the money needs to be turned in by October 3rd. The dates for TCTC are January 11-13, 2013 and will feature Reggie Dabbs, David Crowder, and Mosteller. Space is limited and is first come first serve.

Hey Parents! There are 168 hours in a week. 24x7=168. We have 2 hours of ministry time each week with your students (if they show up for Sunday mornings and for ekklesia). That means 1.2% of their week could be spent in our ministry. That’s not a lot so don’t let them skip. Also, that means you need to be the spiritual leader. Parents must invest additional time to mentoring and discipling their students. They must show that Jesus is important in their own lives so their students will make it a priority. If it’s not important to you, it won’t be important to them. Lead by example.

EkklesiaWednesday nights will return August 8th! We’ll start at 6:30 again with worship followed by a time of study. This year we will also break in to discussion groups once a month to go deeper and discuss the material even further. We are starting the school year with a great series on sharing the Gospel. Come and learn how you can radically change your school by sharing Jesus!

Post – Modern Proverbs

If you want your dreams to come true, don't oversleep.

The smallest good deed is better than the grandest intention.

Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.

The best vitamin for making friends…B1.

The 10 commandments are not "multiple choice."

The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.

Minds are like parachutes…they function only when open.

Ideas won't work unless YOU do.

One thing you can't recycle is wasted time.

One who lacks the courage to start has already finished.

The heaviest thing to carry is a grudge.

Don't learn safety rules by accident.

We lie the loudest when we lie to ourselves.

Jumping to conclusions can be bad exercise.

A turtle makes progress when it sticks its head out.

One thing you can give and still keep…is your word.

A friend walks in when everyone else walks out.

The pursuit of happiness is the chase of a lifetime!
