The CSR department exclusive l de otes itself towards build ing strongrelat ionshi p w ith the commun ities in the Corporate's operat ional area. However,w ith a grow ing resentment amongst people, their increasing aspirations andinability to get direc tly involved w ith the communi ties, it is suggestive th at GOsca n play the role of a fac ilitat ing agency.A NGO! Soc ial Development Organi ation come with the advantage of ears ofexperience in the Co mmuni ty mobilization and development fi eld. Therefore,NGOs! Social Deve lopment Organ i ation are better acquainted with the localissues, problems and challenges and \\'a\ to tackle them.

    BISWA Strategy forfacilitating CSRThe main aim of the interventionwill be to create a win-winsituation, with the Communi tyon the one hand and theCorporate on the other handacting as an interface betweenthe two.We are experienced atconducting the followingproblems. The strategy for anyparticular area is drawn after apreliminary visit of the area andis tailor made according to eachsituation and Corporate'srequ irement.Provided below are all theprogrammes that have beenundertaken by BISWA in its CSRfaci litation initiatives:

    BISWA and Corporate Social ResponsibilityDisplacement issue is the burning issue in Western Orissa as it is movingtowards an industrialized part of the state. Alongwith Orissa, BISWA has startedwork ing in Jharkhand as well, which is also growingly becoming industrialized.BISWA is giving priori ty for the better rehab ilitation and livelihood creation ofthe displaced, for which an active collaboration w ith the industries is sought.BISWA is working with a special thrust on Social Capacity Building which isreflected in its core functioning of Self Help Groups. The community with noexperience on savings and cred it, book keeping and micro-enterprise is supportwi th capacity building to enab le sustainabil ity of BISWA's intervention, oncethe handholding period is over.At present, BISWA is undertaking the following projectsElectrosteels Cast ing Limited, Project in Latehar, West Singbhum and Bokarodistricts, Jharkhand

    1 Entry Point Activity (Co mmunity Mobilisation and Awa reness Generation)The Entry Point Activ ity w ill envisage establishing confi dence w ith thecommunities through Community Mob ilisation meetings and gather ings.Awareness Generation regarding sociall y relevant issues using IEC as wellas ICT techniques w ill be undertaken.The EPA also provides an assessment of the community feelings andrequireme nts and identification of the key community leaders and influentialindividuals .

    2 Socio Economic SurveySocio-Economic Surve I v ill co er illage Profile, Hou se hold Survey andParticipatory Rura l Appraisal (PRA ), of which the information wi ll be utilizedin the preparation of Vi llage Development Livelihood Plan (VDLP).The socio economic su rvey w i I cover vital information regarding thefollowing and with a benefit of accessing data on: Baseline data on income and expend iture Educational levels Health status Availed Government / an y other welfare schemes at the communityand individual leve l

    3 Capacity Building and TrainingsA two pronged approach is adopted for Capacity Building:i) For the Corporate Staff ii) For the PAPsCapacity Building workshops and trainings for the Corporate Staff will aimat increasing the capac ities of the staff to conduct CSR activities withemphasis on Socio-economic survey, need assessment study,entrepreneurship deve lopment, etc. as well as workshops on Team Building,Communication skills, Documentation for the direct benefit of the staff.Capacity Building workshops and trainings for the PAP will includeawareness generation and skill development.

    4 eBO Formation (SHGs, Farmers' Groups, etc)Community Based Organisations, essentially Self Help Groups (SHGs) andFarmers' Group (FGs) will be organized with the aim at promoting theeconomic progress of the area. The main component under this programmeis Micro Finance.

    5 Entrepreneurship Development ProgrammeThe CBOs, once made functional will be credit linked alongwith additionaltraining and marketing linkages required for the specific enterprisedevelopment. Socio-economic survey and the subsequentVDLP will formthe basis for the identification of an enterprise and the required assistancefor its development.

    6 Agriculture based InterventionThis will involve identification of agricultural practices, soil testing andprovision for land and water development. The aim of the intervention willbe to increase crop yield and land productivity. Measures in irrigationalfacilities will also be taken as a part of the agricultural intervention. Themicro finance programme incorporates financial assistance for agriculturerequ irements, for seeds, ferti I zers, etc.

    7 EducationThe programme will focus on adul t literacy with an emphsis on functionalliteracy. This will be woven into the SHG meetings and gatherings as ameans of starting an informal class.Primary Education will be facilitated through setting up of innovativeschools.

    8 HealthHealth programme is promoted through organising of Health camps andcentres and providing medical facilities to the communities. In thisprogramme, BISWA works in direct collaboration with the districtadministration, availing the existent funds.

    9 'Water and SanitationAlongwith installation of Individual and Commun ity Toi lets and BathingRooms, drinking water sources and construction of drains, BIS\ A hasworked on the maintenance of the sanitation system and cleaning of thevillage! colonies. In theVedanta Rehabilitated Colony in Jharsuguda, BISWAwill be concentrating on the provision for maintenance of the water andsanitation system and colony cleaniliness and hygiene.

    10 Plantation/ ForestryAfforestation in the corporate area, promoting social forestry and plantationin the community area. The plantation will aim at identifying those specieswhich have better market value and can have beneficial affect on the soil.Monitoring and Evaluation of CSR faci litated projectsThe Monitoring and Evaluation of the CSR facilitated projects will be donethrough a mechanism mutual agreed upon by the corporate as well asBISWA.Arrangements such as review of each phase of the programme is done,interim reports on work progress is submitted to the corporate and fieldvisits by the corporate accompanied by the Facilitating Agency.
