The Tiger Woods Foundation is an educational charity that maintains seven learning centers around the country, a summer academy, and the Earl D. Woods Scholarship program. The learning centers provide interactive programs in a variety of subject matter that aim to help students focus on the role of education in their lives. The Earl D. Woods Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that provides awards of $5,000 to high school seniors who have strong academic and community service backgrounds.

Before the creation of this new tournament, the Tiger Woods Foundation received a bulk of its funding from other events such as the Tiger Jam in Los Vegas, and the Tiger Woods Invitational in Pebble Beach. While representatives from the foundation have not specified how much revenue they expect to generate from the Tiger Woods Charity Playoffs, the hope is that it will help provide enough funding to continue to expand their educational efforts.
