She was born on Jan. 18, 2008 at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. Big brothers, Adrian & Avery love their new little sister! Believe It or Not --- Swim Season is Upon Us! LG residents are welcome to join The Canyon Gate “Shockwaves” Swim Team. The Shockwaves are holding registration for their 2008 summer league season on Saturday, March 8 @ 12:30 for returning swimmers, Thursday, March 13 @ 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 29 @ 12:30 p.m. at the Canyon Gate clubhouse. Late fees will be assessed for anyone registering after March 29th. The Canyon Gate Swim Team is open to children (ages 6-18yr) from neighborhoods that do not have a swim team. Eligibility for an age group is determined by an individuals age as of May 31 and includes: 6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18. The swim meets are held on Saturday mornings. Practices are held at the Canyon Gate pool and will start Tuesday,April 22 with an after-school schedule and move to a morning schedule once school ends. Limited evening practices may be offered. “One of the most frequently asked questions we get is ‘how do I know if my child is ready for swim team?’,” according to swim team member Gloria Tann. “Basically, swimmers are expected to be water safe and able to get to the opposite end of the pool without assistance. My Lakewood Grove History By: Kathy Best It was late 1995 when I first learned about Lakewood Grove. At that time, I was a Vice President with Kimball Hill Homes who was assigned the cross training experience of building homes. Even though I had been in the homebuilding business since 1980, this was my first time getting a chance to build. Lakewood Grove was a brand new community with its entrance off North Eldridge. Hammonds Homes and Kimball Hill Homes were the two builders. It was my job to build the model homes and the first homes for occupancy. When Lakewood Grove first opened, the community only went as far back as Birchview Drive (now just the first stop sign as you enter off N. Eldridge). Beyond that was undeveloped, heavily wooded land. When you came into the neighborhood, the first street to the left was where the model homes were located. I built the two for Kimball Hill Homes on the left side and Hammonds Homes had theirs right across from ours. After finishing the model homes, we started our first homes for families on Chateau Trail near Gettysburg soon followed by home sites on Birchview. That was the beginning! When your application is receivedbutSCSManagement,theylogit,andthenforward it to anACC member.TheACCcurrentlyhas8members–allvolunteersandLGhomeownerslikeyou.Wemeettwiceamonth,roughlytwoweeksapart.Wealwayshave three committee members at thosemeeting.Wehavesetuparotatingscheduleforthemeetings.TheACCmembersreviewallapplicationsathand,approveordenythembasedonourDeed Restrictions. If necessary, we callhomeownersor takeavisual inspectionoftheproperty.Afteranapplicationisreviewed,it is sent back to SCS Management, andthe company returns it to the homeownerafterrecordingitsapprovalordenial.This
couldbea longprocess,especially ifyourapplicationisreceivedthedayafteranACCmeeting!Wetrytodoourbestbutitmighttakeup toamonth togo throughall thesesteps.We hope that this information willhelpyouunderstandwhyittakes“solong”toreviewyourACCapplications. Anymodificationorrepairtotheoutsideofyour home must an ACC approval. A partial list of typical items is as follows:

Findingajobatgraduationisthegoalofallcollegestudents…andtheirparents.Dr.WayneTerrell will share with NWHarris CountyAggie Moms how theirstudents can benefit from services theCareerCenteratTexasA&Moffers. AlthoughretiredfromhispositionasAssociateDirectoroftheCareerCenter,Dr. Terrell continues to teach classesincareerawareness,whichhereferstoas the“Reality101”classes. He isonthefacultyintheCollegeofVeterinaryMedicine and has the dual title ofLecturer.A favorite speaker at manyAggieMomsclubmeetings,Dr.Terrellhas more than 20 years of experiencein Career Services. He received bothhisB.S.andPh.D.degrees fromTexasA&M and an MBA fromTexas StateUniversity.Whileanundergraduate,hewasacompanycommanderintheCorpsofCadets.
