Introduction:
Team NSS BVM organized its second 7 day Village camp at a village named Mogri, Anand
from 23rd
March - 29th
march, 2018. Few prospectus places such as Nareshwar near Baroda,
Valaasan in Karamsad, Anand and Mogri, Anand. After visiting the villages and getting the
information about the condition of the village, finally Mogri was picked as a village for the
camp. The preparation of the camp started two weeks ago from the date of the camp. The
student co-ordinators had an intense discussion with both the NSS Program Officers Dr. H. V.
Patel and Assistant professor Mayur M Sevak for picking a place for the camp. Mayur Sevak
sir along with 2-3 student volunteers visited the villages Valaasan and Mogri before setting
up the camp. There were 41 Volunteers in all including 5 girls as well. Students from all
branches and all years participated in the camp with great zeal. Especially the response of
the first year volunteers to the camp was above par. Also, the number of girl volunteers
participating in the camp increased from 3 to 5 this year which is a positive sign.
The objective of this camp was to begin the interface with community, rapport
building with community members and developing understanding of the village
keeping in view the rationale of village adoption i.e. develop long term institutional
relation with the community and contribution to the upliftment of people therein.
About the Special Camp
NSS Program Officer Mayur Sevak sir along with the student volunteers laid out the plan on
paper. We discussed the plan and execution of the first camp at the Jol village-2017. After
understanding each and everything in detail, a plan was laid down and it was decided to take
the last year’s great work this time to Mogri, Anand. The plan and its utility was appreciated
by the villagers and they agreed for the camp to be organized from The NSS Unit from 23rd
March-29th
March, 2018.The director of Andh Apang Vikas Mandal-Mogri “Hemantbhai Patel”
helped us a lot by providing us the accommodation and food throughout the camp.
Beginning of the camp
On the first day of camp i.e. 23rd March 2018, all the 41 NSS volunteers gathered
at BVM front lawn at 8:30 AM. NSS BVM program officer Professor Mayur M
Sevak gave instructions and rules to be followed by during the seven day camp.
Activity – 1: Inaugural function The students reached the village by 9:30 am. Then, an inaugural function was organized
at 10:00 a.m in the foyer of the “ANDH APANG MOGRI SCHOOL” wherein the principal of
BVM Engineering college Dr. Indrajit Patel, NSS program officer of BVM college Dr.H.V
Patel and Professor Mayur Sevak, sarpanch of the village Mr. Milan Patel, Principal of the
ANDH APANG school Mr. J.P. Dabhi sir, General Secretary of BVM college Jatan Patel
and Ladies Representative Megha Patel were present. NSS coordinators gave the
introductory speech and briefed about all the activities to be carried out in the camp. All
the dignitaries were felicitated and then each one of them through their speech
motivated the students, explained the importance of such camps and even shared their
real life experiences. With all this, students got a booster and thus began our camp.
Activity – 2: Laying out the plan After the function, all the volunteers started cleaning the place and putting things at the place. Thereafter, we sketched out a plan for the day and discussed the same with program officer.
After that, a break was provided followed by lunch.
Activity – 3: Village Survey through Google Form After lunch, 13 teams each of a group of 3 were divided and areas to be covered in the
Village Survey were discussed.Various responsiblities of the survey like mapping, asking
questions and observing the miliue were given to the volunteers.A questionnaire was made
and data was collected through Google forms with a total count of 158 responses.
Activity – 4: Analysis of the survey
After having our dinner, we discussed about survey and responses of the
villages on the survey. Sir also guided us in a right way to how to questions
villagers and how to interact them efficiently.
Activity – 5: Prabhat Pheri From day 2 onwards,at 6:00 a.m,a prabhat feri was conducted from ANDH APANG
School across Mogri village.This continued throughout the camp. All the
volunteers marched forward singing bhajans and hymns spreading positive word
throughout the village.Also, prayers were sung before the prabhat pheri.
Activity – 6:Yoga and Suryanamaskar Everyday, after the prabhat pheri, yoga was carried out to keep the volunteers fit.
Also, suryanamaskar was done to show respect to the God. Our program officer
engaged with the students to explain them the importance of Physical exercise
early in the morning in one’s life. Students felt rejuvenated after these activities.
Activity – 7:Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Everyday after having breakfast, the volunteers conducted “Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan” in village from during which 3 groups were made for carrying out different
activities across village. Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan we cleaned many streets
and roads. And at the same time, we conducted rallies to encourage villagers to
keep their streets and roads clean. This created a buzz and TEAM NSS started
getting more and more attention day by day across the village and now we could
see the success of our camp by conducting these activities.
Activity – 8:A visit to “Kumar Shala School” On day 2, the volunteers took a visit of “Kumar Shala school” wherein the volunteers
interacted with the students. The students were taught on the subjects of Mathematics,
Environment Awareness, Social science and history. Later on the students were taught
origami and creative stuff. Also, an awareness program on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and
Poem singing was done. All the students enjoyed a lot. The volunteers of NSS also learned a
lot how to handle the students under pressure and under various challenging situations.
Activity – 9: Street Play 1- De-addiction and Superstitions On day 2, a street play was performed in the evening at 2 places of the village, one at front
of gram panchayat and other in the slum area called “Nani Bhagod” in the village. The
theme was “de-addiction and superstitions” . Our volunteers went to each and every house
to announce for the event. The response in turn was as expected. People praised our
efforts and requested us to do more street plays on various themes during our stay.
Activity – 10: Motivational Speech by Ms. Komal Shukla It is said that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Keeping this in mind and
seeing the kind of efforts the NSS volunteers were putting in the village, it was important
that they get a change. And this change came in the form of a motivational speech
conducted by Ms. Komal Shukla for the NSS volunteers. She organized few creative
activities and created a positive atmosphere. The students understood the importance of
handling pressure, showing keenness and presence of mind in day to day life.
Activity – 11: Interaction with the students of “Andh Apang school” On 4th day of the camp, an activity was organized in ANDH APANG school. The volunteers
played music and antakshari, girls played with the girl students of the school.
The students also engaged in an interaction with the blind children, taught them
various subjects. All the students enjoyed a lot and NSS volunteers also learnt a
lot interacting with the blind children.
Activity – 12: Street play 2-Water Conservation As the villagers by now appreciated our efforts and requested us to perform more
street play. We started to look for the themes. In our survey analysis, we came to
know that people of the village wasted a lot of water so we picked up “water
conservation” as the theme. In the afternoon, skit practice was carried out. Before the
event, all the volunteers went to each and every house to inform about the event. In
the evening, a nukkad natak was performed at the panchayat by the volunteers.
Activity – 13: Interaction with the farmers of the village
On day 5, in the morning, an interaction session was organized with the farmers of the village.The students understood their problems and noted them on a piece of paper.
Activity – 14: Exhibition on Antique coins and Government Schemes
Based on our interaction with the farmers and discussing about the same, we
found that an awareness on the government schemes was necessary. So, on day
5, an exhibition on antique coins was organized wherein coin collection from 149
countries was presentation and information about the same was given to the
people. At the same, information about the various government schemes was
also given to the people. These were appreciated a lot by the people.
Activity – 15: Blood Donation A Blood Donation Camp was organized on the sixth day of the camp. On the previous night, villagers were made aware on the blood donation and its importance A. D. Gorwala Blood Bank from Krishna Hospital, Karamsad was invited for the noble cause. Pankaj Bhai from the blood bank delivered a blood donation awareness talk before the blood donation programme. On that day, many NSS volunteers also donated their blood. Few of the villagers also turned up on the occasion. In all, 10 bottles were collected from the village which itself is a big achievement in itself looking at the grassroot level.
Activity – 16: Eye Check up camp On the sixth day itself, along with the blood donation camp, an Eye Check-up Camp had been organized for the villagers. People of all ages, religion showed their enthusiasm and turned up in numbers. A team of optician was called for the purpose. They checked the eyes of 100 odd people. Also, lenses were provided to the needy at a minimum charge. Villagers were very pleased by this activity.
Activity – 16: Street Play 3-Women Empowerment A Street play was practiced and performed by the student volunteers of the NSS Team on
the sixth day of the camp. The theme of the play was: “Importance of Education” and
“Women Empowerment”. The volunteers were enthusiastic to perform in the play. Many
first-year volunteers were given the opportunity to perform in front of a huge mass.It was a
life cherishing moment for all of them. Girl volunteers also participated in the street play.
Activity – 17: Valedictory Program At the last day, a valedictory program had been conducted in which the director of Andh
Apang school and its staff members were invited. Program officer Mayur Sevak sir were
present along with all the students. The director on behalf of the entire village
appreciated our efforts we had put in for the seven days. Few volunteers shared their
experiences of the camp. A memento and a certificate was provided by program officer
to the director for their kind help on behalf of BVM college.
